I've been thinking about that post over the weekend where the not yet mum was going on about all the things she would do with her kids, ie they would speak a foreign language, play an instrument, eat their veg etc

well, I've been pondering. Lets face it, we are all on here, pretty engaged, care about our kids, trying to do out best.

Of course they'll be fine at school etc. But will they be dweebs or popular?

lets face it, which is going to seriously improve their quality of life - grade 2 in violin or being cool?

with that in mind, here is my list of things that I will do with my daughter to make her cool and popular in school and in later life

  • be able to street dance. Imagine busting out those moves at the disco
  • be able to ride a bike, swim, ride a horse, ski
-be able to do that lovely dive into the pool that looks so elegant
  • ride a skateboard
  • have long hair, at least until she is 12
  • only play an instrument if it is any use in forming a band. Tuba out, guitar in
  • have a sense of style (not fashion) and know what suits her
  • know her on mind and have confidence in her own opinion
  • a good knowledge of decent music. Am working on led zep, wu tang clan and minimal techno at the mo
  • not to be scared of stuff such as insects, dogs, being high up

what have I missed?

(please, no one add, be able to put your posts on the right place in mumsnet...)

Well, my DD is:
better at sport than I ever was
prettier than me
more socially accomplished that I am
has more friends than I do
Is better at art than I am
Is better at music than I am
Can sing and dance and act and has medals for all 3
Is better at languages than I ever was
Is generally very happy and outgoing

Hell, she is teaching me!!!!!!!

Hang on: I do help her bandage her cuddly elephant, so, I've taught her first aid.

The coolest thing of all is to be quietly self confident.

Agree with Cory, you cannot plan what your children are going to be like.

cory I agree.

The coolest boy in our school (who was also the meanest little pig to walk the earth and I think that is often the case with 'cool' kids, for 'cool' read arrogant, spiteful bully) left school for the last time with the parting words "the next time you losers hear from me will be when you read about me in the national papers."

He had ambitions to be famous, acting I think.

He was almost right though. We did next hear about him in the papers, but it was only the local one and it was a conviction for burglary and 10 months in prison. I can't tell you how happy that made me Grin

And I think the coolest people are the ones who have the courage to say "this is me, take it or leave it, because I'm happy as I am."

To be honest
Be kind to small children and animals
Have something you excel at but keep it under your hat.
Always reverse into a parking space.
Never put keys in your pocket that don't belong to you.(in case you take them home accidently)
Buy your mother chocolateGrin
