about Grandpa In My Pocket?

I probably need a new hobby......

Am being subjected to watching Grandpa In My Pocket with DD, and can't help but wonder......

Why has Grandpa decided to share his shrinking hat abilities with Jason, but not with whatever-his-sisters-name-is? Or, for that matter, his son/daughter (not sure which one he is father of!)

Surely thats a bit sexist - favouring the grandson over grandaughter, or deeming her unworthy of knowing his secret (I'll admit though, she is a bit of a wet lettuce and could do with acting lessons)

And AIBU to be falling about in hysterics now because I've only just realised that the initials of Grandpa In My Pocket are GIMP? Grin

Oh, I seriously need to get out more!

Jason has a male cousin as well though - he knows nothing of Grandpa's shrinking either.

However, if your surname was 'Mason', would you really call your child 'Jason'? Really? I think not. Yeuch.

DD loves JAY-SAN MAY-SAN and Grandpa in my pocket. She calls my Dad Grandpa in my pocket....Personally I don't like Grandpa - I saw him in a murder drama a few months ago - DD saw him and decided she wanted to watch this drama that was on at about 8 or 9pm....Surely children's TV characters shouldn't be acting in murder mysteries aswell...I hate JAY-SAN MAY-SAN's goofy teeth too, the boy needs braces and acting lessons.

takethisonehereforastart · 02/06/2011 22:09

I love Mr Maker, he's my not so secret now crush.

But I hate Grandpa In My Pocket too. I get the feeling it has been made from books written more than a few years ago by some gruff old chap to entertain his No. 1 Grandson. But I hate it too much to google.

What did Troy do in BGT?

shakey1500 · 02/06/2011 22:10

I like the house and the campervan though...

ReadyToDrink · 02/06/2011 22:11

Mr Maker is a bloody imbecile. I don't know how that show got commissioned. He makes nothing but crap that when replicated by a child...

ReadyToDrink · 02/06/2011 22:12

Neil Buchanan would kick Mister Maker into touch any day.

Purpleprickles · 02/06/2011 22:15

I googled...it has it's own website. The makers believe there is an educational value to the show and apparently some schools are using it "specifically to help teach about storytelling" Hmm

I hate it more now.

HouseOfBamboo · 02/06/2011 22:17

I'm sure there will be a special place in hell reserved for Mr Maker and his mess-inciting ways. He will be made to clear up glitter, play-doh, gloopy glue and indelible paint from shag pile carpets for eternity.

takethisonehereforastart · 02/06/2011 22:23

But Mr Maker is creative and he has an honest face.

And weirdly his Mr Likerbiker moustache is oddly appealing.

kw1986 · 02/06/2011 22:33

GIMP is one of the reasons I stopped DD watching cbeebies. Did my friggin tits in!!

If I had to hear "This time, Grandpa had gone too far." One more friggin time I was gonna throw the TV out the window.

I hate how as soon as theres a problem of ANY kind Grandpa put on his stupid hat to go an interfere instead of sorting it normally.

I hate how they are all so awful at acting.

I hate Jasons stupid face with his goofy teeth.

I hate how they wear the same clothes all the time.

I hate how mean Grandpa is most of the time.

I hate all the frigging winking that Grandpa and Jason do to each other...

Aaaarrrghh it just fills me with so much hate... I'm a far happier person since moving over to CITV!

BiscuitNibbler · 02/06/2011 22:38

I hate the house and campervan. Trying to be so cool. Smug smug fucking smug.

The acting in it is like a school play too.

AnneTwacky · 02/06/2011 22:38

Now I'm not saying the episodes are all a bit samey but we've invented the game of GIMP bingo in our house.

You have to pick a phrase and see if if comes up, such as:

"This time Grandpa had gone too far" or "We'll have to teach him/ her a lesson"

DD thinks it's great, especially as it's practically impossible to lose.

mrsdonkeybucket · 02/06/2011 22:41

You are all watching the wrong BBC.....not CBeebies.....get onto CBBC !

Two words, Big Babies

Fantastic programme. Grin

ReadyToDrink · 02/06/2011 22:43

Yes - Grandpa doesn't ever step in & say 'come on now children, let's not bully people' - he just shrinks to 'teach them a lesson'. Very responsible.

thumbwitch · 02/06/2011 22:45

takethisone - Troy sang - he has a decent voice too!

I like MrMaker - so does DS, but it doesn't mean we actually do any of the things he makes! We do however refer to nearly everyone's eyes as "googly eyes" thanks to the show. DS is only 3.6 though, so it's not a big deal. And he keeps my friend's hyperactive 3yo quiet too - it's about the only show the child will sit and watch! (They don't make any of the things either).

lottiejenkins · 02/06/2011 22:46

GIMP is filmed near me at Aldeburgh and Southwold!!!

NonnoMum · 02/06/2011 22:48

I LURVE it when Jason sings!!!! (but think I could be a stage school mummy if I get the chance).

I envy the camper van.

I fancy the Dad.

I think I look a bit like Mum.

The decor is a bit similar to our house.

piprabbit · 02/06/2011 22:50

Applauds mrsdonkeybucket - Big Babies is brilliant. My fave episode is the one with the Jumperoo.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 02/06/2011 22:50

I have also started a thread about my hatred for GIMP.

Friends of mine (2 adults) love it. I began to find myself feeling slightly differently towards them for telling me that.

BanalChelping · 02/06/2011 22:58

Could be worse. Could be Mighty arsemunchcockbollockingtwatface Mites

mrsdonkeybucket · 02/06/2011 23:05

pip

I just love them all. Grin

Have you seen the J2O advert ? Wink

kw1986 · 02/06/2011 23:07

Ooohhh Mighty Mites is also much hated.

That tiny woman with her make up thats been trowelled on and her stupid voice... Mighty Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite. Angry

sunshineandbooks · 02/06/2011 23:17

CBBC is just bl**dy awful. There are some great programmes but the presenters are just vulgar, vile and more-than-a-little dim. Kids at this age don't need any more encouragement to find burp and toilet humour hilarious.

piprabbit · 02/06/2011 23:21

I saw the J2O ad - and was very confused trying to place the actor...until I suddenly pictured him with more beard and a baby hat, then it all clicked into place Grin.

mrsdonkeybucket · 02/06/2011 23:27

oi, pip

embarrassing secret crush........it's because he makes me laugh ! Blush
