Maybe I am a little more sensitive to this as I have a son with Autism, but still the behaviour of these people is horrific!
I think these people should be locked away for abuse!

'It was a misjudgement'
No. It's a fucking disgrace. And yes, your inspection system has failed.

DaisyDaresYOU · 31/05/2011 22:02

They are on the same level as child abusers in my eyes as they are vunerable people.I had to make dp turn over as I found it too upsetting.Fucking evil bastards

MrsVidic · 31/05/2011 22:04

I work in supported accommodation (not fir learning difficulties but I have close friends who work in them) and I have never seen or heard of a resident getting restrained. Horrific.

ohmyfucksy · 31/05/2011 22:04

Horrible.

I would rather be dead than be permanently under the control of others.

Unfortunately, I think more people are what could be described as 'evil' than we realise, and sometimes they gravitate towards roles where they can have total power over others. Luckily they are usually balanced out by other people who go into it because they want to help people.

Vagabond · 31/05/2011 22:06

So disgusting. I am still watching the upper management acting like politicians instead of care givers. They should not just inspect the premises of their 'care' homes, they should send in 'mystery' nurses so that they can truly determine what is going on.

This is so appalling.

Poor Simone. Shocking. I hope that the axe comes down on more heads than the actual abusers. This is a systemic failure and everyone from top management down to charge nurses needs to be sacked and charged for their negligence.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 31/05/2011 22:06

I would love to think ds1 would be able to look after ds2 after dh and I have gone but he also has low level sn so I think it is unlikely. I think we will have to think long and hard about how best to provide for our son.

omf totally agree with you, there are defo people that what to have power and hurt other people.

choccybox · 31/05/2011 22:11

It's disgusting.

I really hope these people are charged and go to prison for what they have done. It's shocking that these things go on!

Disappointed in CQC input too.

I really hope to hear more about the punishments for these evil people and the company.

Shocking, truly shocking.

beesimo · 31/05/2011 22:13

Half the trouble with authorities schools,hospitals and all kinds of 'homes' from kiddies to OAP ect is that it is in the interest of THEM to suppress and deny all accusations of wrongdoing. Therefore they go into denial or you get the one bad apple defence, this is what happened in the Catholic abuses scandal ( I am a Catholic) and it is wrong.

The only way instituations will change and improve is to admit wrongdoing then root it out. Some people are simply unfit to have power and control over others.

MotherMucca · 31/05/2011 22:15

Aaarrrggghhhh! My blood temperature rose considerably, watching that.

I have been saying for years that the profile for support workers needs to be improved. It IS NOT, and should not be viewed as a 'last resort' employment option.

Support Workers should be registered with the General Social Care Council (I know this has been on the cards);

Personality and intelligence tests should be implemented (tongue semi in cheek);

Protection of Vulnerable Adults training should be delivered frequently;

Better training needed for support workers;

I'm not sure that the private sector should deliver care to vulnerable people: can profiteering and providing high quality care really co-exist?

These idiotic cunts are not representative of support workers universally. I am proud to say that I view my work with respect and consideration.

Fuckwits, the lot of them.

I hope the CQC get the book thrown at them.

ohanotherone · 31/05/2011 22:17

I work in social services and our contracts dept are all over the contracted out agencies at the slightest hint of neglect/abuse issues.

ohanotherone Where I am social service are crap for kids and even crappier for adults. Adults don't even have a social worker unless they need one for something specific and only then for a short period of time, each time something is needed a new referral has to be done :S

I had to turn off half way through. I was in tears.
I have been on another thread today saying my life lacked direction, and I was bored. How fucking shallow am I?? I'm going to try and volunteer at a local care home. Thats my goal for tomorrow. I am in bits after watching just half that programme.

beesimo · 31/05/2011 22:30

The BBC NEWS has just said arrest warrants have been served on 5 members of the homes staff.

I hope they were watching the programme and I hope when they got the knock on the door and saw the polis they shit themselves!

exoticfruits · 31/05/2011 22:36

Absolutely nothing can excuse it. I only saw a clip on the news and was in tears.

bbbbob · 31/05/2011 22:56

I hope they are arrested.
I am going to force myself to watch the reat of the programme.
Fucking horrendous. Those so called "carers" should be ashamed of themselves.

pigletmania · 31/05/2011 23:10

I am ShockSadAngry these are scum of the earth, nothing but bullies. I used to work with adults with learning disabilities in day center and noway would be behave like that, i have never seen abuse and torture before I am so Sad. Poor Simon's mum and brother, I was in tears for them.

fuzzypicklehead · 31/05/2011 23:22

Apparently 5 members of staff have now been arrested, and all of the patients on the unit removed (news article).

Unbelievable. I've spent years working with people who have learning disabilities, some of whom have extremely challenging behaviour. I have never seen anything remotely like that in my life. I'm not a violent person, but holy hell, that makes my blood boil.

MadamMemoo · 31/05/2011 23:29

I missed it, what did they do?

pigletmania · 31/05/2011 23:39

My jaw is on the floor, I am so Angry they are hooligans not carers. I was expecting more from the upper management, they did not seem at all shocked and did not seem to care, the reporter had to practically put words to them. Like retail has mystery shoppers care establishments should have mystery carers. Of course they did not find any signs of abuse when they inspected, the staff are going to be on their best behaviour and service users will not be able to say completely what has happened or be too scared to speak out.

stickyj · 31/05/2011 23:58

Beesimo, I think that for some people they have no choice to put their "kin" into care. I am in that position, my Dad has dementia and I know that where he is, is safe. I'm not saying that the staff are selfless angels and never get frustrated (or hurt) with or by people like my Dad, but I have dropped in unannounced and everything is fine. I have, however, looked around care homes that are private, don't know how much the staff are paid but wouldn't leave a dog there.

The programme broke my heart, I have friends with SM kids that will need that level of care if their siblings can't cope.

Tiredmumno1 · 01/06/2011 00:07

Sooo disgusting, sick and vile, they are lower than pond scum, they need to be locked up for a very long

It made so bloody angry seeing what they did to simone, she did nothing wrong

F*

salsmum · 01/06/2011 00:12

I worked for a local authority with adults with SLD. I witnessed verbal abuse and bullying/demeaning behaviour towards some of the clients in our care. The wages were good and one of the perpetrators had worked around the same clients for years and was seen as 'untouchable' I whistle blew and was told I was 'no longer needed'. I lost my job even though I was a good, dedicated carer I didnt have a leg to stand on even though I contacted CQC, The Law Centre and safeguarding adults agencies. My workmates did not stand by me and stonewalled me because the perpetrator was long-standing and intimidating..I was told that there are no agencies who help whistle blowers only if they go to international media. The reason why I had no back-up was because I was still on probation and had been there less than 6 months the perpetrator still works there. I now work in elderly care where I have seen NO abuse (privately run home) and I have low wages but I'm proud to work with such a dedicated, caring team..watching the programme tonight was really hard for me because I have family members who require 24 hour support as well....wicked, evil cowards Angry they will possibly only get suspended on full pay pending a disciplinary (I sincerely hope this will not be the case though).
