Noooo ... Shock

This wasn't supposed to be happening for at least another 10 3 years!

There's a group of them wanting to go, 4 girls, 2 boys, one of them is dd's 'boyfriend'.

I say 'boyfriend' because she's got absolutely no intention of kissing him (I've told her that her tongue will fall out Wink ) and won't hold his hand because "boys don't wash their hands properly when they've had a wee" Grin

But still ...! There will be BOYS!!

I'm stalling madly and haven't given her an answer yet.

Should I let her go?

Gah, why do they have to grow up

How old is she OP? If she is like 19 there's no need to worry, just let her go! Grin

It seems nowadays most groups of friends are mixed.

When I was 11 I wouldn't be seen dead with a smelly boy in my circle of friends, but it's all changed now.

My 8yr old DS has almost as many female friends as male...same with my 12yr old and 19yr old.

I don't think I really had mixed sex friendships til I was around 15?

let her go, whats the worst that could happen, she loses her tongue and gets wee wee germs, if she has any sence she will supervise the hand washing Grin

Hmmmm, I'd let her. Mine is 13 and did this at 11 with a big gang of bos and girls and lived to tell the tale.

I bet they wont be kissing and holding hands anyway, wont they be lobbing popcorn and getting scowled at.

I can talk my DDs 2

although she does kiss a boy at nursery!

Why on earth is this boy your DD's 'boyfriend' and not a friend who is a boy??
FWIW, I would not worry too much about a group of them going to the cinema together - it is roughly the age I started going to the cinema with friends and whithout adult supervision.
I just think it is a bit sad/wrong/has the potential to backfire to segregate them at that age.

She'll be 15 going on 25 soon enough Wink

I always have had mixed group friends.

the sleepover thing at 12 would seriously have to be reconsidered at some point soon if |I were parents of 12 yr olds. luckily dd is 5.

They're 11! They will hold sweaty hands in the dark and spend so long awkwardly thinking about having a kiss they never actually get around to it.

At least, that's how my first date at 12 went! We did eventually kiss, by about date 3 and then broke up not long after having satisfied our curiosity about what kissing is all about...

At 11 the idea of a boy friend doesn't mean that much. They may hold hands in the cinema. But I bet your DD soends more time talking to her friends about her boyfriend than anything else.

wudu · 29/05/2011 23:07

LaWeasel - stop that talk right now! Kissing indeed, pfft. My dd likes her tongue you know!

Oh yes izzy, I would be dropping off, picking up and spying making sure she's ok. Still not happy though ...

I remember going to the cinema with my first boyfriend with a group of friends when I was 12. To watch Wayne's World Grin. He didn't even hold my hand . Then the next week at school he dumped me. Not even to my face, he told my best friend

Let her go, it's a rite of passage and she will have a fun giggly time (said as the mum of 2 preshool girls so feel free to ignore!)
