hmm?

onlion - I get a strange pink residue on my shower cubicle and toilet water line...maybe that is it

I get this too! We clearly have the same hard water. Strangely one of our toilets is far more affected by limescale build up than the others - I am using this as one of the reasons we need to get our bathroom redone.

I really don't get people's irrational fear and hatred of toilet brushes. They are constantly being dunked in bleach and cleaned, plus it's not like you use them for anything else (well I don't...) Hmm Anyway a brush is essential for properly dealing with toilets in hard water areas when there are boys living in the house!

Plus I experienced the "continental shelf" whilst staying in Austria with a friend - bloody weirdos! Confused

ravenAK · 28/05/2011 23:31

I just keep a stash of old washing up sponges in a box under the kitchen sink - when I do my weekly clean, I use them to scrub surfaces etc in the kitchen, then the bathrooms - last job is to clean bogs above & below the waterline. Then I bin them.

Personally, I am less bothered by a skiddy (it's poo, it's in the bloody toilet where it belongs, gerroveritalready!) than by a shitty brush sat in a nasty puddle of bleach & dilute shite.

Dh disagrees & thinks I'm rank to never touch the bogbrushes he has insisted on - if I ever leave a mark he ostentatiously brushes it away, looking martyred...Grin

onlion · 29/05/2011 07:48

So the non toilet brush people are those who dont mind poo left on the bowl between visits? (and have faith the nest flush will do the job)

onlion I am loving your dedication to the cause, you are asking all the questions i would do if you werent, allowing me to lurk Grin I am a bog brush devotee, just change them often,i cant see any difference in than that and a mop tbh,all dirty germ ridden things.

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 29/05/2011 08:03

I have that pink build up in the shower too, what the heck is that???

Animation · 29/05/2011 08:08

I must admit I'm surprised how few people have brushes. I use brushes.

This has been a bit of a wake up call.

gkys · 29/05/2011 08:10

iscream · 29/05/2011 08:19

Pink Stuff
Pink Stuff 2
pinky orange stuff

iscream · 29/05/2011 08:20

Regarding the OP, I don't remember if I knew, but probably, knowing my mom. My son's both know how, from some early age. However, their bathrooms are usually less than pristine.

onlion · 29/05/2011 08:28

Thanks iscream.
Im a bit Confused as I do scrub the bathroom every day and use flash and dettol bathroom (yes both ) and bleach. Funnily enough its in the upstairs and not the downstairs and I am a bit window opener so maybe I will try closing it.
So bizarre.

Isn't this just yet another example of the germ phobia which is so rife, today. If you can't deal with germs in the toilet I think you have a problem. Hands are eminently washable. How many nappies have you changed without resorting to bleach!

I'm not adverse to a bit of bleaching myself BUT I'm also aware that it's not good for the environment wh my DC will inherit and deeply resent uneccessarily filling the coffers of multinational chemical companies who create/push these phobias for their own financial ends.

Some of my family and friends don't seem to have a toilet brush [of course they may hide them] and they/their children don't bleach. I find it infinitely more disgusting to have to look at their excrement smeared on the toilet bowl. An aversion to this seems entirely natural to me and probably an in-built hygeine behaviour.

I believe that 'dealing with your own shit' is an essential life skill the world over. I feel uncomfortable using a toilet which doesn't come with a visible method of clearing up after myself and feel it's a poor host that doesn't this.

Rant over.

onlion · 29/05/2011 08:37

And the residue has always appeared in the shower cabinet and has done from before we moved in...the previous owners put in a new bathroom . So the problem ocurred when that happened. All rings true, thanks so much!!

I am going to try a 7 day no toilet brush trial on the upstairs bathroom. See if I can do it.

Not directed at you OP.

Numberfour · 29/05/2011 08:56

For those of you that are glove and scrub users rather than toilet brushes brandishers, what do you do with the gloves after you have used them?? Chuck them away? New gloves each time? Disposables?

nickelbabe - I think you might have just cleared up (no pun intended) a mystery for me...

When in the loo at work, I have heard people go into the cubicle and immediately start pulling lots of loo roll, then stay in the loo for their business - and I've wondered - what are you doing pulling off the loo roll first? They're protecting the toilet from their poo! Eureka!"

I use a piece of toilet roll (only one mind) to lift the lid or lower the seat Blush

Like Mutt I don't bleach everday. Maybe twice a week at most. There are 5 adults in this house and we very rarely leave a trace. [pristine]
