To think a 16 year old would know how to use a toilet brush?

Sit further back on the seat if want no skid marks.

BinEnd · 28/05/2011 15:36

oldraver I wish we could all have a loo each in our house. Envy

Mine would obviously be lovely & fragrant.

When I was a kid I believed a Wizard lived in the toilet & the toilet brush was his wand. Maybe your 16 yr old doesn't want to touch the wizard's wand?

Nowdays, I live in a horrible hard water area so use a pumice stone on the inside of my (40 yeard old) toilet that was never cleaned properly before we bought our home. Would replace it, but in 3 years I'm yet to find a toilet I like!

worraliberty · 28/05/2011 15:38

I think it's the way people sit. Some sit forward/some sit back and this can produce skid marks.

If any of you see me on this thread again please tell me to fuck off as I'm waiting for my dinner to be delivered and I feel a bit sick now Hmm Grin

the ring of water will rub off when you wash the toilet.
no more than 3 times a week...

onlion · 28/05/2011 15:44

Sorry I could leave a ring of yellow at the water line. I just couldnt. It has to be white and clean at all times.

Curse modern Eco friendly water saving toilets! I've never had to have a loo brush (vom) but since we have 2 new loo's I have had to put one in the Ds' bathroom AND teach them how to use it.

I plan to invent an old fashioned toilet with a good foot of water in the pan. That way I wouldn't have to use so much bleach and cleaning stuff. Surely it's greener to use water than chemicals?

nickelbabe · 28/05/2011 15:47

onlion - i think this might have more to do with your Stepford Wive-ness than your 16yo, am i right? Wink

onlion · 28/05/2011 15:49

Not really. Its only manners to clean up your poo isnt it?

And what if someone visits? I usually have to do a quick sweep of the toilet before anyone goes in. To check if smalls have flushed and there are no nasty surprises.

I am one of those clean-it-once-a-week-and-then-clean-it-before-someone-visits people.
sorry.

onlion · 28/05/2011 15:53

I have to clean the bloody floor and sides every day as well. Bloody boys and their bloody crappy aim.

nickelbabe - I think you might have just cleared up (no pun intended) a mystery for me...

When in the loo at work, I have heard people go into the cubicle and immediately start pulling lots of loo roll, then stay in the loo for their business - and I've wondered - what are you doing pulling off the loo roll first? They're protecting the toilet from their poo! Eureka!

I thought I must work with some very silent nose-blowers.

I will rest happy tonight

onlion · 28/05/2011 15:55

(a word to all of the boys, not just the oldest that is)

I always thought the toilet paper in first thing was to avoid the plopping sound...for those of a delicate nature

Greenshadow · 28/05/2011 15:59

I'm with Nicklebabe

We don't obsess with skidmarks - they soon sort them selves out, and what do people think they are going to do in the meantime? Jump out and bite you on the bum?

I use a brush to clean the loo - but to get rid of limescale, not poo.
Bleach will work on old marks - just leave it for while.

nickelbabe · 28/05/2011 16:01

I think the paper is suppsoed to do both, onlion.

(i don't believe it stops the plop, though - it sounds jsut as loud to me!)

stickylittlefingers · 28/05/2011 16:13

I lived in an international student house in Holland, where we were all new to the loo "shelf" (for inspection purposes, I guess?).

I was saying to my (reasonably new) flat mate that I didn't much like the shelf.

Oh yes, he says, I really miss the satisfaction of the "plop"

That wasn't what I was going to say (it just seemed a bit weird and obsessed to want to check out your poo), but we were great friends after that. They never explain this in the social guides, but discussing bowel movements with near strangers is a great way to make friends Grin

heleninahandcart · 28/05/2011 16:24

Ah the loo roll is to cover seat and then just before delivery throw some down the hole to stop any splash back. Then you can aim down the hole, no skiddies!

HansieMom · 28/05/2011 16:28

I hate toilet brushes. Haven't had them for years and years.
I promised my DIL I could get rid of her toilet bowl brushes. Bought her the Clorox toilet cleaner disposable system with disposable round foam sponges that click onto a handle. It's a good system but every few times I use the system that follows:

We have a water softener and you add salt to rid the water of rust. When we moved in, salt had been missing for months and I had orange toilets. Pumice stones were hard work, I didn't get far.
Lysol toilet cleaner (blue bottle, liquid is thick) squirted in under rims and left to sit 20 minutes. Then I put on disposable rubber gloves and use paper towel to clean toilet. The rust wiped away! Sparkling white toilet bowl.
This is in U.S. but you probably have the same things there, different names.

onlion · 28/05/2011 16:32

I get a strange pink residue on my shower cubicle and toilet water line...maybe that is it

stickylittlefingers the shelf in the toilet is so you can inspect your poo for worms Shock

Because they eat a lot of raw fish and meat, (tartare), on the continent, they are prone to getting worms........

Yuk!!

stickylittlefingers · 28/05/2011 22:28

blimey, I've spent a lot of my adult life living on the continent and managed to keep myself worm free!!!

Sanesometimes1 · 28/05/2011 22:52

stop skiddies by putting loo roll down side of bowl and on top of water - catches everything then flushes away - have "trained" whole family to do this and we are skid free !!!!
