Being grumpy in the morning

OneDove · 25/05/2011 23:25

Ok I am not a morning person. I need my cup of tea. A bit of quiet while I deal with being awake. I am a bit snappy but then a bit of toast eaten and hurrah! Happy OneDove appears. My DH thinks this is totally unreasonable and often is pretty annoyed I am like this.
Does anyone wake smiling, leap out of bed, full of joy?
Just wondering?

I am the same as you, dp has learned to live with it. Infact our kids are the same so YANBU imo

gingerroots · 25/05/2011 23:28

No never! Require vast amounts of coffee before I feel human. DP also moans about my grumpiness - you are not alone Grin

BearBehavingBadly · 25/05/2011 23:29

Nope I wake up feeling like it's the end of the world then hurl myself in the shower or have breakfast (obviously not in the shower) & then I feel quite happy.
By the time it gets to 10am I'm practically hyper.......
Tell your DH to chill we all can't be like Lorraine Kelly in the mornings straightway. (quite like Lorraine Kelly btw)

betterwhenthesunshines · 25/05/2011 23:29

My DH is always usually happy to get up early. Him and DD (6) are the early risers, me and DS (9) like to take our time in the mornings.

BooyHoo · 25/05/2011 23:31

i used to be a 'spring out of bed' person...until i had dcs!! Grin

now i am like you. i need tea at the very least before anybody is allowed to ask me anything.

HalfPastWine · 25/05/2011 23:32

Chirpy morning people really irritate me.

I need a couple of hours to come round before I feel anything like normal :)

OneDove · 25/05/2011 23:34

Phew! I have 2 Dc 3 and 5 too. Glad I am not alone. You think after 6 years of marriage DH would be used to my grumpy pants..../:)

AgentZigzag · 25/05/2011 23:36

I'm exactly the same, I wish I was like DD2 who wakes up with a smile and a smack in the face for me before she starts singing Grin

DD1 and DH know what I'm like and don't bother saying anything to me until I've got my cup of tea.

Does your DH think you're doing it on purpose and should put on a happy face for him?

I suppose he could see it as being impolite not making an effort, but surely you don't have to with nearest/dearest, that's why they're near and dear because they know who you are and work round it.

Give him a kick in the nads in the morning then tell him to cheer the fuck up, see what he says.

2tired2bewitty · 25/05/2011 23:36

My mum says she didn't realise that no-one in her house spoke in the morning until they'd had breakfast until she left for university, so you are definitley not alone.

Could DH bring you a coffee in bed to ease the transition?

BearBehavingBadly · 25/05/2011 23:37

I suppose it depends if your grumpy pants are silky thongs or more like Bridget Jones pants?
Husbands can be quite peculiar creatures.....

God no- I am a grumpy old munter in the morning! Snarling and tetchy, I am, my family know to leave me alone until I've had coffee. Chirpy morning people make me even grumpier and tetchier. Grrr

OneDove · 25/05/2011 23:40

You see this is why I love Munsnet sooo much! People out there just like me! To be fair DH does usually bring me a cup of tea first thing. I just can't speak rationally until it's been drunk. I have always been that way even before my lovely children xxx

I have to laugh when I see families in the soaps sat around the breakfast table in the morning chatting and laughing with all the time in the world. Confused

mrsdonkeybucket · 25/05/2011 23:42

I am not a morning person either. Leave me be to have a cig and then I can deal with anything.

I do like a cup of coffee too, I have never understood the cup of tea thing ? Hmm

BooyHoo · 25/05/2011 23:43

Hmmm, i wonder at what age i can train ds1 to bring me a cupp of tea in teh mornings?

BearBehavingBadly · 25/05/2011 23:43

That's because they are either all mad or on drugs or the scriptwriters are all mad or on drugs....

OneDove · 25/05/2011 23:47

A ha Booyhoo I have been thinking the same. My DD 5 so possibly a bit early for morning cup of tea training. I def did it for my parents...

I did hear of a 'cute' story somewhere.

Lazy git, so DD approx. age 3 used to take Daddy a lovely drink in the morning. Went on for a while, then asked DW how DD managed to reach the taps ?

Only place DD could reach was toilet. Grin

BooyHoo · 25/05/2011 23:54

ds is also 5. i keep asking him but he just goes on about it being 'dangerous' and him being 'just a child'. kids these days, dont know their born i tell ya! Wink

BooyHoo · 25/05/2011 23:55

donkeybucket that is a fab story!!! Grin

mrsdonkeybucket · 25/05/2011 23:58

I know ! But bleurgh !

It's not my story, wish it had been !

countless · 26/05/2011 00:08

hehe booyhoo wish i could 'like' your post!! reminds me of ds

heleninahandcart · 26/05/2011 01:49

YANBU Any shiny happy morning people who have been to my house are now under the (rather large) patio

sephrenia · 26/05/2011 02:17

I'm a grumpy cow in the morning too, always have been. DH has gotten used to it mostly. He just brings me a coffee and a cig, puts them down on the bedside table and watches from a distance until I smile at him.

I more than make up for it the rest of the time and he says it's okay because nobody said love meant I had to be a Disney Princess all the time. Luckily for him, our daughter has inherited my morning grumps so he has two of us running around growling. I wonder if our daughter will grow out of it when she leaves her teen years behind Hmm

For some reason though, our son is a morning person and I can never quite bring myself to growl at him when he's got his arms clamped round me, telling me that I look beautiful and I'm the best mummy ever. Don't know why that is Hmm Grin
