For not wanting to lie for DP to his family?

DP and I have been together around a year and I have never met any of his family or friends. I let it go but now its coming up to a year together I've pushed the issue and only now he's admitted he hasn't let me meet anyone as he's lied to everyone about my name as he was embarrassed by my real name and didn't want everyone taking the piss so told everyone I was called Angie. Now he's saying he'll let me meet them if I promise to go along with it and not let on about my real name but I'm really struggling with this, why should I lie?? but if I don't it's going to make him look so silly.
AIBU to be really angry about this? he's making out that I'm over-thinking it but long term I don't see how I can keep up this lie, it's bound to come out sooner or later and then I'll look as bad as him.

If it is a genuine thread then the DP is an idiot, my brother dated someone with a non English name, I'm not going to disclose it but it sounded like something else (not rude) in English. We didn't tease her or be mean to her about it!

Also... why choose 'Angie' as the substiute name? Surely pick a more usual name like Lucy or Sarah if you were going to do that!

I have a friend called Dorka. Shrug. I didn't even think about it the first time I heard her name to be honest.

This is going to sound vile and smug, but I have lived abroad a lot and I am quite used to hearing different-sounding names. If someone found someone else's name funny, I'd probably think they were quait quait unsophisticated.

I have known a Dorcas and a Dorkus in my like and if you type the name into even Facebook search they both exist.
Yes I know people who have taken the piss out of the name and yes there are people out there shallow enough to let it bother them.

Shame the OP hasn't returned to this thread, although not surprising when people are taking the piss out of her name. Even if you think someone is a troll it's a lot kinder to give them the benefit of the doubt.
