ok i am sure this has been done before but after anouther experience of ittoday am wondering if i am missing something...
Why buy a huge buggy if you know you will be getting the bus...and i accept sometimes there may be a reason where getting the bus is needed butevery blooming day?
where i live isnt far to town.. its walkable.. although i should add they are the same mumswho insist on taking buggies into school despite it saying no buggies... grrrrrr

Buses DO smell!
They honk round here.

I hate buses. I did them for 36 years. Avoid them like the plague now.

I had to go on one on saturday night. I fairly swooned.

Bleugh.

diabolo · 24/05/2011 21:34

sorry - thought you were talking about huge budgies. Blush

Time to go methinks.

sungirltan · 24/05/2011 21:41

wonder if this thread is about me. i got on the bus with my buzz yesterday because i was late and i usually walk. dd teeethed all night and i let her sleep in. if i say ten hail marys will that suffice?

Rosemallow · 24/05/2011 21:55

I got on the bus today with my baby jogger city select double buggy. I have a 3 month old and a just turned 2 year old and they were both fast asleep so I didn't fold it down Shock. (still fitted another buggy in next to us though)
We used to have a car with DP's job. DP lost his job. We no longer have a car. As he is unemployed should we fork out for a less offensive buggy to use on public transport or should we continue to use the stupidly expensive but fulfils all our needs one we have and spend the money on food or utilities?
I don't understand this attitude on here as in RL people are just not bothered by it.

sungirltan · 24/05/2011 23:10

rosemallow - precisely!

stillstanding · 25/05/2011 09:47

Actually, rosemallow, I think people are bothered about it in RL. Fact is it is annoying when someone takes up a large amount of space on public transport (whether with a buggy, luggage, shopping cart whatever) which makes it harder for people to get on/off, particularly if it means that they cannot then get on the bus. The question is though is it reasonable for those people to use the bus and should they confine their buggy purchases to buggies which are more convenient for other people than their own and the answer is obviously a resounding no.

5DollarShake · 25/05/2011 09:56

Oh God, buses, buggies, who gives a flying one?

Imrubberyoureglue · 25/05/2011 10:30

As a mother of twins and a toddler (dd was 17 months when dts arrived) I did get the smallest double buggy I could get that would take a buggy board as well.

I ventured on the bus 3 times in the last 18 months and every time the buggy space has been taken up by big buggies with a toddler who was awake and capable of sitting on their parents lap.
I was made to wait for the next bus as neither parent or driver were prepared to get those buggies folded. I live in a rural area and the buses are hourly. It is 45 mins journey to the next town so not walkable, and have you tried keeping a toddler entertained for an hour, next to a main road?

Oh and yes, I did get people tutting at me when I took a little time (i'm pretty quick at getting it around, but obviously its a tricky space to fit into and still leave some space for a small buggy) to manouver the buggy into the space and getting back off the bus. NO offers of help and a lot of huffing and muttering, to the poster who said no reasonable person would mind twins getting on the bus!

I cannot afford to put much fuel in my car and would rather go on the bus but in my area it is made impossible.

ChristinedePizan · 25/05/2011 10:31

I misread this title as 'to think people who buy huuuuuuge budgies shouldn't get on the bus with them'

I only clicked on it because I didn't realise budgies came in different sizes. I feel cheated :(

ohboysohboysohboys · 25/05/2011 11:23

YABU. I have a huge Special Needs buggy for my 9 year old. He's 9 so there's no small option and I have to get two buses to his hospital appts regularly. I do have a 5 month old too and have a small buggy for him because I use buses a lot. Obviously I can't push two prams at the same time so life is generally a pain in the arse until we win the lottery and DH can give up work.

Will someone please invent a double special needs pram, ta!

lubberlich · 25/05/2011 11:35

Of course YABU - if you can't tolerate buggies what the hell are you like around wheelchairs?

Riveninside · 25/05/2011 11:41

Cant you get hospital transport ohboys? Or direct payments to pay a carer to come with you on the bus? Thats what we do.

jeckadeck · 25/05/2011 13:21

YAB a bit U. Its annoying, yes, but how are you supposed to know before you get a buggy if its going to be too big, its not like you can road test the blighters?

JeremyKylesPetProject · 25/05/2011 14:08

So you may have to say "Excuse me please" and maybe scoodge to the side once in a while? Oh no... I hope you're ok.

Andrewofgg · 27/05/2011 17:19

YANBU. If it does not fold it does not belong on the bus. Not fair not only to wheelchair users but to entire travelling public.

Sorry, posted twice in error.

Lambzig · 27/05/2011 17:36

I have an Xplory (which I love) and take it on the bus for longer journeys in SW London. Only two buggies allowed on our buses at any time(wheelchairs given priority of course), but not usually a problem and the footprint with the handle folded down is smaller than an awful lot of fold up buggies. Dont know why people are so annoyed by this - its public transport for heavens sake.
