DS who is 4 has this book. For anyone who is unfamiliar with it, it's a book where the reader chooses from a page full of pictures i.e which house they'd choose to live in/who they'd choose for family and friends/which bed they'd sleep in and so forth.

We get to the page where the book asks who they would choose for family and friends and DS points to the picture of a princess with long blonde wavy hair and says "she should be my mummy" I asked him why he chose her for his mummy and he said "because she is beautiful with beautiful hair" I said "Do I have beautiful hair?" and he said "No, it's hugly (he says ugly with an aitch Grin) and your eyes are all funny" :( My eyes started welling up and I had to bite my lip to stop the full-on boo-hoos.

I am a nobber for a) being so shallow, b) for being jealous of a drawing of a princess, c) for being bothered about what a 4 year old thinks of my appearance Grin

Lol YANBU I'd be gutted even though it's stupid to be Grin

My 8yr old has only just grown out of the stage of wanting to marry me?!?

OvO · 22/05/2011 23:08

My 3 year old tells me every day, "You are so beautiful Mummy and deserve all the kisses and cuddles in the world."

Grin
ashamedandconfused · 22/05/2011 23:08

Oh thats sad for you but surely he did not mean anything by it? he was just into the game of which one of these he would pick, so he had already put you out of the equation.

madhattershouse · 22/05/2011 23:09

My 4 yo saw me dressed as a witch and rather than be scared (had blackened eyes and black lips) she said....."you look beautiful, mummy!" Now that made me feel a little Hmm Grin

Penthesileia · 22/05/2011 23:10
Grin

This is all a trick to make us look at your pictures you nobber.

You are tres lovely.

Make your son read a few threads in feminism about judging a woman by her appearance. That'll learn 'im.

bupcakesandcunting · 22/05/2011 23:10

Piss off, OvO Angry

PiaThreeTimes · 22/05/2011 23:10

Nice one, OvO. Hmm

bupcakesandcunting · 22/05/2011 23:11

Well Penthesileia that was going to be my point d: that at 4, he thinks that women should subscribe to the blonde/lithe ideal

Pictish · 22/05/2011 23:11

What Ashamed said. Don't be sad...he's only four. xxxx

Ps...I would be all wobble lipped too. Bless you.

tethersend · 22/05/2011 23:12

I just checked your profile in case your DS had a point, and is that Josh Homme?!

bupcakesandcunting · 22/05/2011 23:13

In my defence, I have a raging hangover AND am due any day now. I'm sure I wouldn't get snivelly over this usually.

OP posts:
Pictish · 22/05/2011 23:14

I had a look too, and I'm not one for false flattery so believe me when I say you're gawjuss.

And Josh Homme? Woo and hoo!

animula · 22/05/2011 23:14

That's why you should never, ever ask you children if you're beautiful!

I think you're his mother, and he just doesn't really think of you in those terms.

Go ask your dp/dh if you're beautiful. Or rather, tell him to tell you how wonderful he thinks you are.

OvO · 22/05/2011 23:15

I thought this was a lighthearted thread.

My apologies.

SarahStratton · 22/05/2011 23:15

Bup you are extraordinarily gorgeous. Plus your favourite authors are the same as mine.

Welcome to my/our world of perfection. And ignore DS. He is far too young to have developed any taste yet.

toosoft · 22/05/2011 23:15

My DD (age 4) tells me I have messy hair and my clothes aren't pretty because I don't wear dresses. I just agree.

Supermoo · 22/05/2011 23:15

YANBU, it hurts, even though it shouldn't.

Dd (4) asked me today if it was wise for me to go on the slide at soft play "with your big bottom", she also likes to stroke my arms as she falls asleep, often muttering "mummy's soft chubby arms" as she does so. I am not particularly large.

The only thing that really bothered me was when she said "it's not that I hate you, I just like Daddy better". Grrr....!

tutu100 · 22/05/2011 23:16

Have just looked at your pictures after Pentheselia's comment. You are very beautiful Smile. Infact I'd quite like to look like you (I have similar hair - doesn't look as good as yours though).

If it's any consolation my ds1 has that book, he's 5 and it's his favourite book. On the page where you can choose what outfits you would wear I pointed at some pant things, only to be told I couldn't wear those cos they won't fit your big fat bum Mummy. (he was probably right).

My advice. HIDE THE BOOK!

BornThisWayBaby · 22/05/2011 23:16

my 4 year old told me teresa from hollyoaks WAS his mummy Hmm

YANBU for being upset i would be the same! but hes only 4 and loves you unconditionally! Grin

i have higher hopes for my 3 year olds compliments he told me i looked beautiful while bleaching my tash Hmm

hmc · 22/05/2011 23:18

You're being a bit daft! (meant kindly). My ds (7) constantly points out my crooked tooth and bad hairstyle - I could be mortally offended, but meh! However according to ds my redeeming features are I am 'soft' and lovely.

tethersend · 22/05/2011 23:18

DD said to me today, "Mummy you look so beautiful".

Then turned to her father who at that moment had decided to put his (short) hair in a crazy front ponytail (I don't know why), was shirtless in old jeans and lying on the sofa picking his nose and scratching his bollocks.

"Daddy, you look so beautiful"

I think we're going to have to revisit this concept...

ILovePonyo · 22/05/2011 23:19

Good god, I've just sneaked a look at your photos and you're gorgeous, and photogenic - not a back handed compliment btw! - am v jealous.

Is that Josh Homme? He looks like someone else too.

FWIW do you think your ds sees blonde as beautiful? Sounds a bit odd but maybe he does, I know I really wanted blonde locks when young. I blame Barbie Angry

meltedchocolate · 22/05/2011 23:19

I also had a peak at your pics and was jealous of your looks, and I have grown quite confident about mine!! :o Also you look beautifully young :)

animula · 22/05/2011 23:19

Don't worry, OvO - it's lovely your small one says that.

Bupcakes, you must not take this comment too seriously. It's just your little one thinking about how nice it would be to be a character in a story book. Mine wanted to live in Enid Blyton's Far Away Tree - or whatever the heck it was called - and I suspect she'd have liked to have lived with Silky. It means nothing.

bupcakesandcunting · 22/05/2011 23:20

"I thought this was a lighthearted thread.

My apologies.

< back out of thread>"

It is! Come back!

Yes, that is Josh Homme

Actually laughing at Teresa from Hollyoaks is my mummy Grin

I'm a bit sensitive about my hair atm, after an eventful last trip to the hairdressers.
