I'm not defending ANYONE, far from it, however, how does "being in the
public eye" make a difference?

If everything you said or did was splashed all over mn for example, how would you feel?

Have just been out putting saggy mum-pants on lower garden whirly. Crimes against both decency and fashion, how low can I go funnyspelling?

Could someone please PM with the footballers name who was at it will Imogen Thomas. I had thought it was footballer a, but then got confused and was told it was footballer b. Can anyone send me a cryptic clue please?

I still seamed by assertion, that if you put yourself in the public eye, then you have a responsibility to act in a way fitting of that. You don't need to be a nun, but at least have some integrity.

Look at someone like Russel Brand, he womanised and took loads of drugs (allegedly- MN legal team!) and he was always upfront and owned it. I didn't think much of his behaviour, but at least he was honest about it.

gapants · 22/05/2011 12:15

seamed...er, stand by bloody apple auto correct!

sausagesandmarmelade · 22/05/2011 12:17

HE is in the public eye...and is paid very handsomely for what he does.

HE was incredibly selfish (in my opinion) by letting Imogen face the flack on her own...and not ensuring that she had any support or protection (as I understand it) and hopefully HIS EXPOSURE will send a message (loud and clear) to all others hoping to hide behind so called super injunctions.

duckdodgers · 22/05/2011 12:20

I think most of us feel and think about his family, its just a pity he wasnt doing the same. So if you are in the public eye and make a lot of money out of an image of being "nice" "a family man" etc then you deserve all the bad publicity you get if you mess around.

Yama · 22/05/2011 12:22

I just heard on Radio Five Live news that the Sunday Herald (Glasgow) have outed him as the internet exposure means that keeping his identity a secret is "unsustainable".

HE has done himself no favours AT all.

If I had heard about the affair I would not have been impressed but would have though...oh well...another footballer has an affair, stupid twit (or something along those lines).

The fact that he used his wealth...created by his fame to hide behind a super injunction and supposedly showed little concern for Imogen..gives me an even lower impression.

This behaviour was bound to irritate the press and make people more determined to out him...which is what has happened on Twitter and elsewhere.

So he has done nothing at all for his image and has only made the situation a darned sight worse than it was originally.

I'd be furious. Even if I was someone who was high profile. IMHO, unless the public figure is someone who is in a position of power, prone to moralising, has a 'squeaky clean' public image or likes making laws that affect personal freedoms.... who they shag is nobody's beeswax

'News' is one thing. 'Nudge nudge, wink wink' stuff to tut at over the breakfast table isn't news.

Google his wiki page for full list of sponsors and honours, not just supporting MUFC pays his wages.

Primalscream · 22/05/2011 12:34

TSC - you're missing the point - only the super rich can afford these injunctions - there's a moral issue here.

funny spelling....The press say. You use us to become rich and famous. If you are a star; its payback time. Put another way would you except bad publicity if it made you a multi millionaire/

KatieScarlett2833 · 22/05/2011 12:48

Don't worry funnyspelling have Schillings on speed dial to protect my anonymity Wink and DH has agreed to pose with me in public to show how we will face this intrusion together.

sausagesandmarmelade · 22/05/2011 12:50

...and I don't think EVERY detail of his life is being published...

Just the fact he had an extra-marital affair and tried to cover it up with a super injunction...

Is that fair? I think so

Being famous comes with its pitfalls and one of those is knowing that at anytime your private life can be publicised, therefore it is prudent not to do anything to draw attention to the bad things you have done or are doing.

worraliberty · 22/05/2011 12:52

I feel far more sorry for the families of those in the public eye. Like when someone wins X Factor or appears on Big Brother or something...if they have a family member whose addicted to drugs/been to prison/had any kind of major life upheaval...they always get written about and that's not fair as they haven't chosen to be in the public eye or even marry someone who is.

ScousyFogarty · 22/05/2011 12:54

The importing thing is if all the current publicity makes camerooney go for a new privacy law which may effect everyone

voodoomunkee · 22/05/2011 12:54

I totally agree about the moral issue here. I do feel bad for those indirectly affected (family etc), however I can't abide the fact that someone by dint of their purse has been able to decide they can silence people. That is more worrying than what he has been playing at IMHO.
