come on, Shirley. We all know that there's some real hinting in here among the posts , regardless the lighthearted stuff there is actual serious hinting going on. I just think it makes people feel bad.

I mean, for me, actually naming names is probably better than the hinting. At least you know where you stand. I'd far rather people just came out and said they hate me and why, than sit there trying to work out whether the hint means me and wondering if any PMing is going on behind the scenes about me.

And I am aware I am probably being far too serious, but I can't stop thinking about people worrying that it is them that people are hinting about and that it's making them feel bad, or like they're disliked but they don't know why. I don't like to think of anyone feeling bad.

In my defence, my least favourite person on MN is a right twunt. They were spouting some rather bizarre/insane views over in In The News on Friday.

I used to have a few when I took MN too seriously - then I grew up, and i just take it for what it is now - a place to waste a bit of time. Plus having 'feelings' for Internet strangers does seem a bit mad

Bumfuzzle I think you're very kind to feel such sympathy for posters whom you think might be sitting there feeling awful that someone on MN rates them as their least favourite MNer, but have you considered that the posters who are likely to elicit such a feeling are probably prolific posters with strong opinions, who like the attention and are not at all upset by it?

The three posters I listed (please note I didn't say 'shitlist' or 'hate' or any such thing) are not backward in putting forward very strong and entrenched views; they must then realise that they are likely to put a few backs up?

And as for people who think that dogs should be banned or fitted with colostomy bags; I think that they are such fuckwits that I really don't care if I offend them.

I agree with you though, that the thinly veiled hinting and talk about PMing is much more cliquey-gossipy and liable to invoke paranoia.
