I've had no interest in this story until I read this. He's issued legal proceedings against Imogen, what a shit. Surely this madness has to be stopped now. His name is all over twitter, it's essentially in the public domain now. Can you sue individual twitter members anyway?

Grin @ dee

the thing is, do any of us really care?

he should be putting his energy into sorting out his own life and playing football

i'm almost tempted to put his name at the end of everything i put on the 'net today - sue me, i don't care, i have no money, nothing that he could gain from me.

ChippingIn · 21/05/2011 09:01

It's certainly one way to make a mountain out of a molehill.

badmummy101 · 21/05/2011 09:02

how can he sue immogen for his name now coming out?
when they were shagging was she mean to keep it a secret?
what if a neighbour or friend or rellie SAW them together. put 2 + 2 and made 4.
how is that her fault?

TheOriginalFAB · 21/05/2011 09:08

"disabled bastard"

What a disgusting comment Angry.

SeymoreButts · 21/05/2011 09:13

He's going to sue us all for thought crimes.

I sort of hope he does sue me, just so they can read out Seymore Butts in court. Grin

FAB - Indeed it is a horrible turn of phrase. Gave me a right jolt.

I read it that the intention was to mean child born out of wedlock who happens to have a disabiliy and not to call the child a bastard in the more modern use of the world or insult the child's disability. He has a bastard child, iyswim.

Still a horrible term, mind. Dreadful. and quite outdated.

Lizzylou · 21/05/2011 09:28

The only winners out of all of this are the Lawyers, they must be making a fortune out of the dumb ball kicking moral vacuum. He has made himself look even dimmer than suspected and really very callous.

His poor wife.

Pancakeflipper · 21/05/2011 09:36

He's making an arse of himself now. Who is he protecting anyway? His wife knows now. So protecting her and the children hasn't worked?

It's the worst kept secret ever on the identity of whom it is.

For goodness sake Bryan just take responsibility for your own unfaithfulness. No one forced you into a 7 months affair. Sort out your family instead of throwing more money away on legal stuff. You might need to save some for your divorce.

MigratingCoconuts · 21/05/2011 09:37

just google 'twitter'

then type in 'footballer imogen' into the search engine there and you get there Grin

what a knob. What I hate is that he can but this with his money yet Imogen has no such luxury. But he is the one that broke his vows.

I am thinking of a name right now. Is that allowed under the super-massive injunction?

TurkeyBurgerThing · 21/05/2011 09:56

If you're famous and you shove your knob up women you SHOULDN'T be shoving your knob up. Just because you're paid obscene amounts of money to kick a ball in a net sometimes doesn't give you the right to buy protection for yourself when you behave like a disgrace and knob away from home.

bochead · 21/05/2011 10:17

The db comment was mine - that poor child was treated as just that! It is a disgusting term, I agree but if you look at how that child was treated by the law disgusting IS the only way to describe it! The child's rights to a decent life were totally ignored in favour of protecting her dear important Daddy. This was an xtreme case yet nothing seems to have changed.

This whole gagging order/twitter crap seems to me a sophisticated form of legalised abuse of women by controlling powerful men. Especially when as another poster said coupled with the media comments on date rape by a senior politician this week. Add in the story on the Nigerian domestic child slaves and the police this week & like it or not it is still a man's world.

What legal recourse for the damage to her family life has Jemima Khan or even Imogen? Rebecca Loos reported her parents were hounded by the press when her story came out, yet they weren't guilty of adultery.

As a lone parent of an SEN child I do believe in using plain Englsh and not dressing up what is essentially abuse of women and children in nice politically correct language. We need to start telling it like it is, and not being patronised into tolerating it.

darleneoconnor · 21/05/2011 10:41

poor imogen

he's a wanker

vmcd28 · 21/05/2011 10:42

I don't really agree with the powerful-men-abusing-women comments.
He applied for a gagging order, and the reason the judge approved it is cos - based on the evidence - the judge believed imogen was trying to blackmail the footballer. So presumably she was the one who was going to the papers with the story.

She could apply for a gagging order if she wanted to.

My point is, yes he's a total fanny, but she could have gagged the press if she'd wanted to/had enough money.

Butterbur · 21/05/2011 10:52

Surely the injunction is nullified by the fact that everybody now knows who the famous footballer is? I thought previous injunctions had been overturned on this basis.

bochead · 21/05/2011 10:56

There have been too many of these gagging orders recently for me to buy the OW witch hunt line - sorry but it seems to be becoming standard practice for rich man to play away then gag the OW.

If it were just one case I might agree vmcd28, but's it's just the latest in a long line of similar cases and the OW can't all be blackmailers can they? Part of any relationship is owning your part in it - he's doing anything but taking ownership of his own behavior. Even if she was trying to blackmail him, all her power to do so was done with the first case. The twitter cases proves it's not about that but about a power game for the man of some kind.

However I do very much see the primary responsibilty towards making any relationship work as being with those actually in the relationship. When I got the phone call from the OW at 7 months pg - it was HIM my ire really lay with - she was just the side show iykwim. This man needs to be concentrating on repairing the emotional damage caused to his wife and kids - not twiitter & lawyers ffs! A lock on his fly might also help when he leaves the house in future.
