This is more of a 'Am I being Ridiculous?' I think!

They are 4.5 and 20 months.

'Bridge over Troubled Water' is their favourite album now Confused. They both absolutely love it, especially 'Cecilia' which is now known as 'the clap-bang song'.

But DD has picked up more of the lyrics than I thought she would Blush and now sings 'making love in the afternoon' at the top of her voice in the back of the car. Of course she has no idea what it means but should I stop putting the CD on before she starts to figure it out?! Also a tad concerned about the whores on 7th Avenue, although she hasn't started singing that one yet. (DH suggested changing it to the horse on 7th Avenue...).

Should I switch back to the nursery rhymes? It's such a great album...

Oh this could run and run... what are we going to do about the next line then? "I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome I took some comfort there"?

Aw I loved that album as a kid and still do, especially The Boxer. Don't worry didn't turn me into a fucking potty mouth. Grin

PedigreeChump · 20/05/2011 19:56

Ah the lonesome line - I thought it was "took Southern Comfort there" and that he rode the horse swigging it from the bottle...

IHeartKingThistle · 20/05/2011 19:58

Ha ha! So I should further corrupt my foul-mouthed children by teaching them about alcohol now?! Wink

My dd loved Elton Johns 'tiny dancer' when she was little - ( she still loves it now - 15 years on)

Play the music you love to your dc - it will stay with them forever.

culturemulcher · 20/05/2011 19:59

Funnily enough, I remember putting the BOTWater album on to play when I was very young - 3 or 4, I was alowed to do it if I was very careful and didn't bounce the needle on the record. Cecelia was always my favourite track! I l still love it, and it always reminds me of Sundays at home with my family. No dodgy connotations at all, luckily.

Oh dear, my 3.5 yr old ds loves nickelbacks rockstar song...

I have tried to hide the cd but he digs it out and sings that he wants to be a big rock star and about the playboy mansion Shock

thefirstMrsDeVere · 20/05/2011 20:03

My 3 year old was singing along to my Woodstock Album this morning.

Comin in to Los Angel leeeee, bringing in a couple of Keeeeeeys, dont touch my bag if you pleeeeease, Mr customs maaaan maaan.

He also likes Pink Floyd and Amy Winehouse and adores The Specials.

Amy Winehose is the most problematic. I have to be quick on the 'skip' button to avoid unpleasantness.

carminaburana · 20/05/2011 20:05

Nickelbacks - 'how you remind me' is awesome ( ds2 loved it )

funnybumblebee · 20/05/2011 20:09

I sing my DD to sleep with Paul Simon's "Still Crazy" and "Slip Slidin' Away"- my mum used to sing them to me!

IHeartKingThistle · 20/05/2011 20:09

The Specials - 'Ghost Town', is that right? Fantastic... totally digging that out for DD!

My daughter sings "Sweet Baby James" at the top of her voice often. Which thankfully is harmless.

Have realised though, that "Lisa and Louise" by NOFX is not one to be listened to in her presence

shakey1500 · 20/05/2011 20:27

My son :)

Honeydragon · 20/05/2011 20:27

I have a 8 year old ds who insists on singing

"doncha wish your mum was hot like mine....." Hmm

shakey1500 · 20/05/2011 20:28

eek not clicky, sorry, technophobe here

what do I need to do (and I know IABU to ask!)

Honeydragon · 20/05/2011 20:30

but we also do S&G, especially At The Zoo / Central Park, Dr Hook and The Smiths. Oooh and we love the much more age appropriate "Family Time" by Ziggy Marley and sing along all the time, it's chuffing awesome!

Thank you Honeydragon

My boys know ABBA better than Annafried does nowadays Grin And they're word-perfect on the first two verses of Wizzard "Wish it could be Christmas"

Jonnyfan · 20/05/2011 20:38

Ha yes, my kids know every word of every Rod Stewart album and everthing by Dire Straits having listened all the way to the South of France and back.

My favourite lyrics story is of the friend who went to school assembly only to find the entire class singing along to "...horny, horny horny..." while the parents exchanged startled looks and tried not to giggle. The dear teacher thought it was "..honey, honey, honey.."

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 20/05/2011 20:42

I have just downloaded this from iTunes - Mum and Dad used to play it in the car and we would sing along, also with no idea what the words meant!

carminaburana · 20/05/2011 20:42

I'm afraid my kids have never forgiven me for inflicting Genesis on them /

IHeartKingThistle · 20/05/2011 20:44

Shakey you must be so proud Smile he's very groovy!

Actually I reckon there's an album in this somewhere - Mumsnet kids sing Simon and Garfunkel anyone?
