I don't get it.

So people do not think they are a troll if they are posting about something sensitive.

Because they wish to 'protect' their name

Because some mners know others in a R/L capacity and may not wish for them to know about their genital warts.

HTH

thisisyesterday · 19/05/2011 21:34

because there are far too many people on here who are keen to out them as "trolls" by searching the name and seeing if they'be posted before.l

i think they see this as some kind of badge of honour "yes, yes, I've called no less than SIXTEEN people a troll in the last day... yes, I'm ever so clever dontcha know?"

so, people who have namechanged feel that they have to point out that they are a regular and not a troll.
which is a real shame

RhinestoneCowgirl · 19/05/2011 21:34

because they are regular posters and have namechanged Confused

Madamolive · 19/05/2011 21:34

I thought you could see peoples old nicknames?

Hassled · 19/05/2011 21:35

So you don't think they're a troll/not to be taken seriously. I've said it - in a "I know this is all a bit needy and probably unlikely but I know about red rugs and tablecloths so I deserve serious answers" sort of way.

Pagwatch · 19/05/2011 21:35

Often I think to try and reassure those reading that they are not a troll but want to post on a personal subject and don't wish to be identified.

Occasionally because they think it gives them permission to be a twat and not get flamed.

And sometimes because they are a twat and a troll and think ' honest, I am a mner' will fool people.

But I don't name change so I can't be sure

shineoncrazydiam0nd · 19/05/2011 21:35

Is this REALLY an AIBU?

ShirleyKnot · 19/05/2011 21:36

I think it is pathetic name changing you should sail under your own colours.

Amongst other thingsI have been called,

Troll
Stepford Wife quite a few times that one
Inbred
Mysoginist (who can't spell)
Dail Mail reader

and worst of all compared to Jeremy Clarkson!!!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 19/05/2011 21:46

beesimo I thought you were Jeremy Clarkson? Confused

Wink
SkyNewsAddict · 19/05/2011 21:49

I name change all time, I have a physco ex who tries to track me online so I have to dodge giving too many details. If I post anything that might identify me then I use a new, one off nickname. The problem is that if the problem is a bit juicy then I get accused of being a troll, comments like 'interesting first post on MN.....'

So whilst I realise that lots won't believe me, I tend to 'fess up that I'm a namechanger to try to avoid the troll comments.

MoldovanHardHatporn · 19/05/2011 21:49

Gravest insult of all there beesimo - Daily Mail reader. How will you ever recover from that?

Because if you've answered a lot of threads, it makes you a bit recognisable if someone does a search. If it's a sensitive issue, you want to be anonymous to get a balanced view and prevent being recognised.

southeastastra · 19/05/2011 21:54

ucm, is that youuuu?

SkyNewsAddict · 19/05/2011 21:56

beertricks My favourite 'proof' is the booble plate down the back of the loo thread - except then all I want to do it go back and read it again and then I'm weeping with laughter again. Can't believe that was years ago now, ho hum, I must be getting old!

5318008 · 19/05/2011 21:58

I would rather people who didn't 'like' me knew it was me so we could have a bloody good 'fair fight' about the subject at hand. I am not interested in being pandered to nor do I want to end up giving the benefit of the doubt to someone I know is a big fat fibber!

Bumfuzzle · 19/05/2011 22:01

Isn't it normally when they're posting about a fishy fanny, or bursting in on their mil being shagged by the milkman, that sort of thing?

I am a namechanged regular btw Grin am trying bumfuzzle on for size. Whaddya think?

MoldovanHardHatporn · 19/05/2011 22:03

I'm in need of a new Hardhat name now Eurovision is no longer current. Then I too can become a name changing regular. Albeit a poorly disguised one :o

SkyNewsAddict · 19/05/2011 22:05

It was a bobble plate but loads of people mis-spelled it and called it, more hilariously, the booble plate. Love it!

ManicPanic · 19/05/2011 22:07

I would say 'bat, mad tablecloth lady, hedgehog camera shed, sexual fetish with stainless steel kitchen appliances, cube of poo, sex text plumber, shiney's squirty cream.'

Love it bumfuzzle.

Honeydragon · 19/05/2011 22:16

I think people also say, in case some one recognises who they are and goes oi, your such&such like the new name.

I have recognised a mnetter who name changed for a sensitive issue so posted but pretended to remain oblivious to whom she was. It's a polite way of saying please don't out me, as some rl involved people might know their usual name.
