What age would you let your DC wear deordarant and which is best - she is nearly 10 and just starting to "smelly" sweat :)

Having The Conversation with DD about armpits was worse for me than the period talks. I can remember my own mother making a hash of it when I was 10 or so, basically telling me that I smelt weird, and that smelling weird was a sign of being grown up, and here, have some even weirder-smelling pink Mum deodorant to cover it up. I used to roll it off on to loo paper instead of using it.

I'm actually quite a sweaty old mare and use that Mitchum super-deodorant. Both DD and I use the solid stick - DD prefers the scented one. I've tried all of the aluminium-free ones and they don't work, not for me, anyway.

Just to be clear - Tiny Clanger is not a sweaty mare, and does not use Mitchum. She uses Sanex.

I can't use Sanex anymore.

It's what I packed in my hospital bag when I had DD, every time I smell it now I am taken straight back to the recovery room where the lovely MW gave me a bed bath after having thrown up during MROP (if ever there's a need to throw up, it's when you can feel someone a-rummaging right up under your ribs)

I got 4 on special offer months back, bloody mistake that was.

pointydog · 20/05/2011 15:17

I'd let them use it when they need it or when they really think they need it.

Well ladies, i had a word with my DD today about going to the shops to get some deordarant, explained to her that as she gets older her body will start to change etc (greasy hair/periods/hair etc) she was quite excited about the prospect of the two of us going shopping for such a "big girl" thing - she already knew a girl in yr5 who "wee's blood" Wink and she mentioned that she gets greasy hair and "will i grow hair down there like you now" :) "not quite yet baby" :o

timnely thread for us. Dd is 10, discussed it today and she started to use roll on deodorant this morning

SORNedWoman · 23/05/2011 11:32

I thought Mumrollette was one word when I was wee... that's how my mum referred to it.
Funny how the daftest things are sweet memories!

I wore a roll-on antiperspirant deodorant at ten - maybe Sure? Also mum made me wear clearasil moisturiser + spot concealer. I didn't have much body hair until 12 tho. Now i prefer Mitchum unperfumed products as i work in a hot environment + can wear perfume with it. I needed my first bra at 9 - mum took me to a 'ladies underwear boutique' as m+s and other shops didn't sell girls' bras then.

Tammy girl......that's where i got my first bra from - i was soooo embarrased Blush but sooooo pleased Grin
