Am I right to harshly judge the owner of a dog wearing a dress?

We live in a small market town, so hardly New York (not that that makes a difference in the judgement to me) and on the way home today we walked past a woman putting a chihuahua in her car which had on something similar to <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.dogsupplies.cz.cc/products/280x380/106_4.jpg&imgrefurl=www.dogsupplies.cz.cc/__product.asp%3FP_ID%3D106%26ZoomImage%3D5&usg=__BMciXUZLHwhhT2bHmU_LCfWn47g=&h=380&w=280&sz=14&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=UZrH3gFTdV7jSM:&tbnh=125&tbnw=101&ei=nE7VTb-GDoTZtAbpg-2bDA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dchiwawa%2Bdress%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1146%26bih%3D667%26tbm%3Disch&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=400&sqi=2&page=1&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0&tx=62&ty=88" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this.

The woman kept looking over at us, I thought possibly because she expected 10 YO DD1 to 'ahhhh isn't it cute' the dog, but as we've seen dogs dressed up on telly and talked about while it might be harmless, some people see it as a bit demeaning for the dog, and totally different to putting a warm coat on a dog like a greyhound that might need it, so DD1 was desperately trying to suppress her Shock face at actually seeing a dog in a dress in the flesh.

So would you say dressing up dogs in hoodys, hats, sunglasses and the like on a daily basis, is just a bit of harmless fun and the dog hasn't got a clue anyway?

Or is it freaky as fuck and the owners should be put in the pillory?

I saw a dog in a dress and fairy wings a couple of weeks back. Oh I judged, DH nearly exploded trying to suppress his judging.

SpeedyGonzalez · 19/05/2011 20:57

ZigZag, the real question is was the dog wearing Manolos? Anything less and he/she will have just looked silly.

claretandcheese · 19/05/2011 20:58

Well then, Agent, you most definitely are NBU. Poor thing.

Future, how do you know the wings weren't real?

taylor74 · 19/05/2011 21:08

Madamedeathstare that's a great pic x

AgentZigzag · 19/05/2011 21:14

Well speedy, I wasn't going to comment, but as you've brought it up, I thought the dress was unbranded.

Arf at clarets real fairy dog Grin

I dressed my cats in a Santa outfit once, always amusing for the pissed off look on their face. But a dress on a dog is just wrong. Especially a slutty dress.

SpeedyGonzalez · 19/05/2011 21:23

Gasp! Then I shall judge them very harshly.

AgentZigzag · 19/05/2011 21:25

I might have tried to give DD a balanced account of why dogs shouldn't be dressed up when it's not cold Poncey, but I reckon the look of derision on my face might have belied my conviction.

Cats are different in my mind, if I tried to dress up one of our cats they would scratch my eyeballs (and other soft flesh) out, if your cat doesn't mind and you don't have to wear gauntlets to do it, then by definition they must like it Grin
