her DC loves Shepard's pie.

So I stayed up late last night and made the pie, slow cooked the mince, boiled carrot, broccoli, onion, fresh herbs, into beef stock, and blended, as her DC doesn't "like" vegetables.

So friend came and asked how I made her, she then proceed to say DC wont like it, as DC likes cheap mince, boiled tattie and gravy granules and that's it!. Hmm

Apparently my Shepard's pie, is the best ever and DC asked for seconds, the look on her face was Angry while mine was Grin

Perhaps you need some advice on contraception?

How rude is that? No call for that sort of comment whatsoever I don't think.

OP is on asking a simple AIBU, no need at all for that remark.

JeremyVile · 17/05/2011 14:54

Oh I know, that was a bit rude wasn't it?

My point was that you saying "My friend wont take the advice, we've tried a lot, she does it her way or no way" was a bit rude too.

parakeet · 17/05/2011 14:54

I love the way you talk as if you've had a major achievement getting her children to eat vegetables when she claims they don't "like" them. [subtext: she's a lazy cow who's less informed about child nutrition than marvellous old you]

Tbh, I don't really count blending vegetables to a bland puree then disguising the taste with beef stock as a success on that front. You've hardly got them to re-evaluate their lifelong eating habits.

ShoutyHamster · 17/05/2011 14:59

What happens if you make one with Quorn??!!

neither shepherd's or cottage!!!

It's mycoprotein isn't it. Laboratory pie I suppose.

Insomnia11 · 17/05/2011 14:59

I use minced lamb in everything that requires mince. For me the whole point of mince is that you don't have to slow cook it and it goes a long way, I can turn around a delicious Shepherd's pie in an hour, to me it's a very very easy dish but which takes longer than a lot of things I make, it isn't something you'd slave over or make a special effort.

AuntieMonica · 17/05/2011 15:02

Shouty erm erm erm erm

Country pie?

JeremyVile · 17/05/2011 15:02

AuntieMonica · 17/05/2011 15:04

ShoutyHamster · 17/05/2011 15:05

Yes I'm dull - guilty as charged

AuntieMonica · 17/05/2011 15:12

lets start a new club - call it a clique?

'we eat loads of vegetables and no meat'

GoFullForce · 17/05/2011 15:15

amazingly I am, have nothing to do, except watch nasty tv (Gilmore girls, CDWM, strangeways etc) all mind tediously numb. (housework, paperwork, washing etc... all done, even made tonight's tea in slow cooker this AM, so no need to do that either).

OP posts:
ImADinosaurSoRawrAndStuff · 17/05/2011 15:15

So your friend makes her SP with just MINCE, Gravy Granules and taties on top?

That sounds vile.

I make mine like you make yours (not being smug in any way shape or form)

but can i ask why you were making her Child her tea?

Continuum · 17/05/2011 15:17

ShoutyHamster splutter But people would just call it lab pie and that has whole different connotations to it!!

FreudianSlipper · 17/05/2011 15:17

i thought that was normal children ate what they are given at other homes and often refuse to eat it at home

you need to get out more, study or find a hobby. competitive and smug mums are incredibly boring and are pitied by most

Lady

that's correct though, it IS cottage pie.

shepherds pie is made with lamb. hence the ref to the minder of sheep.

i'm not too keen on the veg version being called 'lab' pie, the dog next door might be very upset by that Sad

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 17/05/2011 15:21

OP... You should have juiced the raw vegetables, added the pulp to the boiling stock, but the juice or jus, should have been kept and added at the very last minute to prevent the loss of vitamins... Did you not know that??

Your smuggery is therefore completely unfounded and your boasting is misplaced... Grin
