Don't get me wrong, I LOVE clothes, just buy most of them from charity shops, ebay and H&M.... My friend was shocked I thought £20 was a lot to pay for an everyday top, aibu??!!

Yabu. I too prefer charity shops but I think they've lulled you into a false sense of reality Wink Twenty quid is fine for a top.

DontCallMePeanut · 16/05/2011 19:08

That's cheap for h&m Grin

Sirzy · 16/05/2011 19:09

I wouldn't say it was an extortionate amount. I rarely pay that much but that's because I normally wait for sales!

Serenitysutton · 16/05/2011 19:09

Yabu. That's the cheaper end of the high street.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 16/05/2011 19:09

That is quite cheap I think.

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/05/2011 19:10

Depends what you mean by an "every day" top. If you mean a sort of long-sleeved t-shirt thing, I'd say £20 from somewhere like Next would be about right. If it was from somewhere more up-market, I'd expect it to be in the region of £50.

goodegg · 16/05/2011 19:11

Pay £20 and it'll last twice as long as one for £14. Pay £40 and you'll wear it forever.

worraliberty · 16/05/2011 19:11

It's about right I'd say.

mummakaz · 16/05/2011 19:13

yanbu but then I buy most of my clothes from primark Blush

alizee · 16/05/2011 19:16

yanbu. but i don't think it's expensive, i just think i can get more from my money from getting it from ebay or in the sales so i wouldn't buy a £20 everyday top.

confuseddotcodotuk · 16/05/2011 19:16

YANBU, I get extremely peeved as I used to live in a place with awesome charity shops and spent about £40 on a whole new wardrobe! Whereas now I live in an awful town and have to fork out £15-20 on one article of clothing! It's horrendous. I'm also budgeting £200 for a new wardrobe out of my next paycheck, don't think it'll get me very far Hmm

Needanewname · 16/05/2011 19:17

Really depends on what your budget is

Flisspaps · 16/05/2011 19:19

YANBU, but then I have a budget of about £10 per item (and maybe £20 for a coat)

BertieBotts · 16/05/2011 19:19

I think it depends if it is plain as well - for a plain one I wouldn't pay that much. If it had a design on then maybe.

Sirzy · 16/05/2011 19:19

I would rather pay £20 if I had to than get stuff from primark which will last a fraction of the time therefore cost more in the long run!

nokissymum · 16/05/2011 19:19

£20 is nothing my dear! Although like someone else said I usually wait for the sales too and will buy like a £40 top from wallis for £15.£20 Is just average.

Depends on the quality of material, if it keeps shape in the wash, doesnt fade etc, i prefer a charity shop good brand to the likes of new primark.

YABU. If you wear it everyday, for example looking smart in work, then it's well worth it.

FabbyChic · 16/05/2011 19:23

I used to buy everything from Next, then I found eBay, I pay anything up to £7.50 for a shirt/blouse/top that was up to £39.99 in Next.

Since finding eBay I have not shopped in a high street shop for three years.

LadyBeagleEyes · 16/05/2011 19:25

It's what I'd pay for a top, I've paid over £30 if I really loved it.
I also shop in Primark/Tesco and you could get 4 for £20.

ENormaSnob · 16/05/2011 19:29

Sounds about average IMO
