Don't get me wrong, I LOVE clothes, just buy most of them from charity shops, ebay and H&M.... My friend was shocked I thought £20 was a lot to pay for an everyday top, aibu??!!

I very very rarely spend so much on one item (other than things you expect to be more, i.e. coats, shoes/clothes for a wedding etc).

I bought 8 things in Primani the other week for £23!!

2 pairs of shoes for OH (flip-flops/espardrilles)
pack of 6 pairs of socks
2 T-shirts
2 summer dresses for DD
Hairband/clips for DD

I am a bargain queen!

It would seem a lot to me, but then clothes in general are cheaper over here and I did just spend $21 on an everyday top without thinking about it, so maybe it is the same thing. I do think you have to pay more for quality though - I find more expensive tee shirts have a far nicer material and wash better...

Average/cheap unless you're 13 and look good in Primark things or a sack.

For a nie top which I could wear in the day I expect t pay between 15 and 35 pounds. Dressy costs more like 50 plus.

I'm on the same page as FabbyChic; if you're familiar with a brand's sizing, check out what is available on eBay before buying on the high street, online elsewhere, in upmarket stores, or from shopping channels.

I now have 15 pairs of Next bootcut jeans (great fit for me), a vast collection of Boden tops, umpteen pairs of Birkenstocks, and countlesss designer jackets, skirts, dresses, shoes etc., that are spilling out of my closets.

As all of these items were bought new at considerably less than the retail price, I naturally used the dosh I'd saved to buy more.... and therein lies the only drawback.

eBay's great for children's clothing and numerous well-known brands have their own eBay outlets, as does Argos and the falling price shopping channels.

If you're time-poor and love a bargain, eBay's the way to go.

Lol at people throwing Primark things away after 1 wash. I have stuff from Primark that has been washed and worn hundreds of times and still looks good.
I would expect to get top and trousers for £20.
