To get totally put off dinner because DH thinks it's ok to fart whilst I am cooking?

I hae spent 2 hours prepping dinner and cooking it...it's 2 mins from being ready and he...knoiwng how digusting I fnd it....farted in the kitchen with all the food half on plates and sitting in dishes.

I know I may seem full on but I have OCD andhe KNOWS that this is a trigger for me. It stinks of shit in the room where I was laying out food.

AIBU to just sit here now and leave him and FIL and the kids to sort thrmselves out?

He is disgusting! I can't believe some of you wouldn't mind. Are you with men who can't control themselves or don't respect you and the rest of the family?

He should have held it in and gone to the loo. If he genuinely couldn't have held it in until he got out of the kitchen surely he should have been embarrassed? I don't understand men (or women) who deliberately fart and find it funny. It isn't. Especially in the presence of someone who finds that offensive, whether they have OCD or not. That kind of behaviour is disrespectful, to say the least.

Well if I had to get a fit of the OCDs and clutch at my pearls every time a man farted in this house I'd be fit to be tied by now! It's a fart ffs - it ain't going to move in under the bed and come for you in the night is it?

The food was 2 minutes off being ready when he farted so she rushed to her computer - would have been a more practical idea to rush to a window or something but whatever gets you through it....

I'm with PiazzaDellaRotonda - my DH farts so much that there's just no point in me getting hung up on it. If I did, our marriage would be just about over. I've learnt not to stress the little things as there are much bigger things in life to worry about.

OP - I appreciate that you have OCD and so he could have been more considerate in this case. Have you tried to get any treatment for your condition?

Those who think the OP should get over it - why should the OP, FIL & children all sit through a stench because the DP thinks it's funny? It was deliberate, he lifted his leg up to do it!

Did PMSL @ this.... but I think the OP left them too it and then came to post to see if she BU to have done so?

I have no problems with farts myself but do find it annoying and disrespectful when people deliberatly do things they know rattle my cage.

I think yanbu on the basis you have OCD so can't control this reaction iyswim?

Lifting his leg up was a nice touch. Asking you to pull his finger would have been the icing on the cake.

If I was in the lounge and no one else was there, and probably wasn't going to be there in the next few minutes, then I would fart there. Or the bedroom etc.

I would make a reasonable effort to not fart where everyone else had to sit in the smell (especially if I KNEW they objected). So if everyone was congregated in the bathroom, I would fart in the lounge Grin

I wouldn't be with a man who farted in front of me, familiarity breeds contempt.

There are some things you just don't do in front of someone you supposedly love and respect and one of those things is fart, and shit with the bathroom door open.

FabbyChic, what happens if your DH farts in his sleep? Or if you're on a long car journey? I agree with making an effort not to fart, but you know... sometimes...

Sorry for buggering off...thank you for the answers. I cant help it...I honestly get so disgusted by it that I could literally pass out....when it comes to my own functions I'm ok...but I would leave the room and go to the toilet....it's shit related imo and belongs in the same room as that.

I tried to eat for sake of FIL but basically struggled with it.
