Hi, I'm sorry, I probably am BU but I was really upset by the beheading of the poor woman in Tenerife. It just made me feel sick and she looks a little bit like my own mum and it really, really upset me and brought her own death back.

I posted on another forum about it and someone replied with a really stupid and insensitve comment. AIBU to feel upset?

somebody nobody knows being beheaded in tenerife is different
Oh for chrissakes people were just chatting about a news story - doesn't need a major investigation into its appropriateness does it?

AgentZigzag · 14/05/2011 23:27

I don't think discussing somebodys horrific murder is rubbernecking TSC, if anything it goes some way to giving a balance to posters saying we're desensitiz(s?)ed by violent crimes.

Taking out the posters who can be scarily involved in someone elses pain, most people are just trying to make sense of a senseless death.

The time we should be worried about peoples concern is when there's a lack of it, and nobody bothers to wonder what can drive a person to do such a disgusting thing to an innocent woman.

UrsulaBuffay · 14/05/2011 23:33

But it's peoples concern and respect for the victim and their family that drives them to take an interest in the crime TSC.

Like the OP they're all coming at it from their own personal experiences, but that's what gives them a connection.

It's not a selfish connection just because they're trying to understand what the family is going through and that's how they get to the understanding.

How awful for something so brutal to happen and nobody says a word about it, no sad faces or concern because they're worried they'll seem inappropriately involved.

bupcakesandcunting · 14/05/2011 23:39

It's a human story. As fellow humans we are geared to show concern and want to express our sadness when something bad befalls another human. It really is that simple.

Pagwatch I was not adressing your post but Bibbity's origninal pot about the OP hijacking somone elses tragedy. There was no need to leap on me. I have no issue with anyone.

slightlyunbalanced · 15/05/2011 09:00

One of my FB friends also put a "joke" on his status about it Hmm.

I think it is just awful Sad.

slightlyunbalanced · 15/05/2011 09:36

You can PM people though can't you Pagwatch? Rather than have a private conversation on an unrelated thread on which one of you has accused the OP of hijacking Shock.

Really hypocritical!!
