I do not like fish near me in the sea but I really fancy those little buggers nibbling off my dead skin. It disgusts me & intrigues me in equal measures! Be nice to get silky tootsies for once!

In some Turkish Spas they do whole body "nibbling" for psoriasis - ichthyotherapy Hmm

B0ff · 15/05/2011 09:03

First there we had gold clown necklaces, then tramp stamps, now fish feet.

Resist the Chav within, people! Ped egg all the way!

Gingefringe · 15/05/2011 09:10

There's one in our local shopping centre and the water always looks rather cloudy. I'm sure they have to clean the tanks out rigorously but I think I would prefer to be the first appointment of the day rather than the last!

CheeryCherry · 15/05/2011 09:22

I think the cruelty aspect is more to do with them being kept in very overcrowded tanks, and often moved around a lot - ie the ones on stalls in shopping centres, many fish die during transportation. As well as the hygeine issues. I think its a fad which will go away in time. Not good. Hmm

DameShirleyKnot · 15/05/2011 09:34

Oh look, it's fake BOF.

MrsDrOwenHunt · 15/05/2011 09:36

is there a fake bof? call trading standards!!

DameShirleyKnot · 15/05/2011 09:38

There is and it's on this thread.

Even though fake BOF has been asked nicely to changer several thousand times it refuses. What a strange thing to do.

annawintour · 15/05/2011 09:41

Who is BOF and Boff? Don't get the relevance?

I don't think fish manicures are hygienic.. mind you I got a verucca after going to a manicure salon thing and never had one before and it has not gone for 2 years because of pregnancy and bfing so I need a solution for it.....

CointreauVersial · 15/05/2011 12:29

Anna - BOF is BitOfFun who has been on MN for ever, so is fairly well-known and recognised.

BOff is someone else who has apparently chosen a near-identical name, presumably just to confuse/annoy, and has resisted all polite requests to change it to something less misleading.

Fishy, but nothing to do with fish.

PhilipJFry · 15/05/2011 14:59

As a bit of an aside, I can remember reading about these in the Sunday Times' Style magazine years ago. The type of magazine that's all £800 pound dresses and stories about someone's latest half a mil house revamp? At the time they were talking about it as if it were the height of luxury and the latest thing in expensive Spas..and now you can get them for £15 a pop in a shop in Manchester city centre :o

annawintour · 15/05/2011 15:35

Oh Ok Cointreau - to be honest I'm not up to date with the mn mafia.

CointreauVersial · 15/05/2011 17:33

Anna - very wise of you!

Ripeberry · 15/05/2011 17:44

Do they eat hard skin off verruccas ? Grin

SparklerainSuntoes · 15/05/2011 17:47

Ripeberry - they do! Better value than the expensive chiropodist I went to sort them! I felt sorry for the fish but they looked happy enough (if a fish can look happy) and my feet felt so smooth after.

anotheracademic · 15/05/2011 17:53

what the hell is a verruca?

annawintour · 15/05/2011 17:55

a contagious wart - so the fish place should not really accept people with verruccas!

VeryStressedMum · 15/05/2011 17:59

The fish place near me has foot showers to wash your feet before hand. They don't let you have it if you have fake tan on as it kills the fish and they try to look after them as they cost £7 per fish. The boy who worked there also said there is a filter system which filters the water a few tim,es per hour.

Wouldn't have it done though!!

bellavita · 15/05/2011 18:07

B0ff - you really are irritating.

i would like to try this, but i cant stand my feet being massaged/touched/pedicure etc

so would i like nibbling fish?

cookielove · 15/05/2011 18:41

I've had it done twice, i LOVED it and would probably get it done again.

MrsDrOwenHunt - i love your name

anotheracademic · 15/05/2011 18:48

oh a plantar wart

Meow75 · 15/05/2011 19:01

I've had it twice too.

My feet are REALLY sensitive/ticklish and the first time I went, I had a 15 minute session and found it truly excruciating - not in a painful way, but ticklish. Still went back because the effects were so good!!! And, guess what, my feet calmed much quicker the second time. Looking forward to the next one - gonna go for 35 minutes next time. And it's less than £10 with a Forces discount. Win win!!!

MrsDrOwenHunt · 15/05/2011 19:12

thankyou cookie, i just love my dh!!!!

ScaredOfCows · 15/05/2011 19:13

So, do they examine your feet all over before you put them in the tank, or do they just take your word for it that you don't have any verrucas etc?
