I do not like fish near me in the sea but I really fancy those little buggers nibbling off my dead skin. It disgusts me & intrigues me in equal measures! Be nice to get silky tootsies for once!

are they being overworked thou!! or are they like gary the snail?!!

DillyDaydreaming · 14/05/2011 18:51

Okay - I have posted all my "tree hugging" stuff about respecting our fellow creatures. Am off to sort out housework and think again about having my feet done..... Just not at the nearest place as it seems all a bit "give us yer cash".

woollyideas · 14/05/2011 18:52

I'm sure the fish just love the anti-bacterial stuff they spray your feet with. Why LOL at fish welfare? Buy some Heel Balm FFS.

PatTheHammer · 14/05/2011 18:55

Anyone read the magazine in the times today? The guy that writes the last column, robert thingy? He was talking about getting some tadpoles to do a diy one when he put his feet in a local pond. Sounds much more sustainable and natural IMO Wink

On a par with the sterile maggots that are put into a wound to eat the manky bits of an ulcer but they're just maggots I suppose Hmm.Actually they do a damn good job and they get a free meal.nomnomnom.
Same as the fish.( BTW vegetarian for 30 years.)

MrsDrOwenHunt · 14/05/2011 19:40

dilly really?!!! they are fish man they have forgotton after 5 secs!!

MrsDrOwenHunt · 14/05/2011 19:41

perhaps we should ask them to fill in a survey about how they feel about it!!

forwantofabetter1 · 14/05/2011 19:47

I love it and def notice a difference.
BTW the fish dont actually eat the skin it passes straight through their gills.

SparklyCloud · 14/05/2011 20:04

MrsDrOwenHunt that is a load of crap, fish DO have a memory. Mine know which part of the tank to go to for food. When I get a new fish, after a few days that one knows too. Also things that they are wary of, like new food, plants, after couple of days they are used to them - they do have a memory.

MrsDrOwenHunt · 14/05/2011 20:06

omg so they lied on finding nemo?!! bastards!!

Choufleur · 14/05/2011 20:08

I have a voucher for one. Have that. it was bought as a present but I REALLY don't want to go

DillyDaydreaming · 14/05/2011 20:12

Nah - can't accept that they are just "fish", they are living creatures and as such should be treated with care. Just my "tree huggy, hippy dippy" opinion but there it is. I try and treat all with respect and to have some principles about what I buy and from where.

I am just me, I eat meat, but only free range " had an actual life" meat so don't eat it too often, I buy fair trade etc. I think the world would be a better place if we all showed a little care for the suffering of others and for the welfare of our lesser creatures.

AND some of these places do evidently treat their fish well.

Also I have to say if the fish are poorly treated it would make me doubt some of their hygiene claims too so it's common sense really.

LadyBeagleEyes · 14/05/2011 20:13

It just seems yuck to me. There's one in our local shopping centre. People just pop in and do it for a laugh, it gets really busy on a Saturday.
How do you know what kind of disgusting feet have been in before you?
I just imagine people's veruccas and corns floating around having just been chewed.
I may be overthinking this (don't like feet anyway) but yuck.

DillyDaydreaming · 14/05/2011 20:13

Smile - really getting into the hippy tree hugger mode now - have to go. Bye.....

'BTW the fish dont actually eat the skin it passes straight through their gills.
'

Boke boke boke - so the dead skin from the manky feet of the person in front of you is floating around in the tank ?
The infected, sloughy, bacteria riden crap from a strangers feet ? Grim!

MrsDrOwenHunt · 14/05/2011 20:19

u tree hug away dilly, we cant all be the same can we? coz if we were we woould be sheep!!

Pixel · 14/05/2011 20:27

I don't know anything about the fish they use, are they tropical? If so I imagine they have to be quite well looked after as anyone who has kept tropical fish knows it doesn't take much to kill them if conditions aren't right.

Still not sure I fancy it though.

Icelollycraving · 14/05/2011 21:40

Ooh just came back on,very divided. Can't say I'd really even thought about the welfare of the fish, just thought of the lovely soft feet.

EmmaBemma · 14/05/2011 21:53

eurgh, no WAY! What a licence to print money though - they've popped up everywhere, those places. There's one in each shopping centre in Dundee. All you need is a couple of perspex tanks and some fish, and you can watch the £££ roll in. Wish I'd thought of it.

PinkFondantFancy · 14/05/2011 21:54

If the tanks look clean I think it probably indicates they are pretty well looked after. Also I agree with Pixel, if they are tropical they'll need to be looked after with care otherwise they won't last long.

I've had one done - glad I did because it was a fab experience (v.v.v.v.v tickley though and I'm not ticklish!!) but didn't do much for my feet so I'd say go at least once, if only for the experience.

bellavita · 14/05/2011 21:58

I had it done, was an experience let me tell you...

Won't have it done again, not because of cleanliness etc etc but I just did not enjoy the sensation of them on my feet.

The fish did leave my feet lovely and soft though.

EmmaBemma · 14/05/2011 21:58

look! you can buy the whole kit on the internet:

follyfoot · 14/05/2011 22:00

Yuck, yuck and more yuck. Putting your feet in water they poo in. Would you put your feet in water mixed with dog muck, even if it was 'filtered'?
