To think cosmetic botox for 8 year olds is utterly shocking and verging on child abuse?

FreudianSlipper · 12/05/2011 16:47

its very very wrong, something is not right how can anyone think this is ok, yes it is a form of abuse

southeastastra · 12/05/2011 16:48

cosmetic box no, botox yes, obviously!

ashamedandconfused · 12/05/2011 16:48

sick, totally sick IMO

these pageant mothers are going to end up giving their DDs severe body/image issues

kids should be kids, running around, geting mucky, not all tarted up and afraid to spoil their nice frock - and certainly not given botox!

pollypopsocks · 12/05/2011 16:49

I wonder what would happen if you someone it in this country, do you think social servies would be involved?

OP posts:
southeastastra · 12/05/2011 16:49

oh sorry read op wrong :S

pollypopsocks · 12/05/2011 16:52

But surely it is illegal?!

OP posts:
SpringFollows · 12/05/2011 16:53

child abuse. I thought it was a joke until I clicked on and read the story. That is shocking.

madwomanintheattic · 12/05/2011 16:55

lol sea. it's the cosmetic bit Grin botox fab. botox for cosmetic reasons yeuch. botox for cosmetic reasons in an 8yo for pageant stuff - even more yeuch.

should be against the law. the child should be banned from competing and the mother and her 'behind the scenes' doctor supplier should be charged with assaulting a minor.

imagine being a - stupid enough to do it, and b - stupid enough to to flaunt yourself in the media doing it.

what message is she giving this child? you aren't pretty enough. you aren't good enough. at 8!

pageants. bleurch. bleurch. bleurch.

DontGoCurly · 12/05/2011 16:55

It is easy to inject in the wrong muscle and cause ptosis of the lower eyelid for example, where the skin hangs away from the eye. Or even bells palsy.

Stupid, stupid woman.

Sharon Stone famously wanted to inject her 7 year old sons feet with botox to stop him sweating. (the boys Father stopped her luckily)

AgentZigzag · 12/05/2011 16:58

The mum keeps banging on how she's a good and great mother, almost to try and convince herself she is.

She's not.

It's not a parenting option where it's a matter of opinion, what she's doing is wrong.

Disgusting.

LineRunner · 12/05/2011 16:58

The same Daily Mail online article is flanked by pictures and captions of women's fake tits, women's semi-naked bodies, women's starvation diets and women's crap hair extensions.

Excellent skills, Daily Mail.

AgentZigzag · 12/05/2011 16:59

And what's worse is that I've given the mail an internet hit as well, grrr.

pollypopsocks · 12/05/2011 17:04

But surely you wouldn't be allowed to do that over here in the UK? I'm really concerned by this article!

OP posts:
LadyBeagleEyes · 12/05/2011 17:08

i'd be interested to hear from American mumsnetters about the legality of this.
Disgusting.

HaughtyChuckle · 12/05/2011 17:14

thats is bad OP

ReindeerBollocks · 12/05/2011 17:17

[shocked]

That poor little girl.

mathanxiety · 12/05/2011 17:21

YANBU. DD3 just recently did a paper in school that required research on the topic of beauty pageants for girls. She is against them. They are horrific and they are now spreading worldwide. They should be illegal.

I think the legality in the US depends on whether botox is regulated by the FDA and also from state to state.

wildfig · 12/05/2011 17:26

Of course it's disgusting, but it's part of the Daily Mail's new 'catering for the US readership' angle - eg, more focus on reality stars who are barely known in the UK, prices slipping into $ rather than £, abrupt relegation of previous ubiquitous stories about the Saturdays/Kelly Brook, et al, to the lower orders, etc.

AngryBeaver · 12/05/2011 18:29

That is so wrong. That poor kid.
The mother is clearly a total fuckwit.
That is abuse/assault...and ss should be involved. If you think causing pain to your child is being a 'great parent',then you shouldn't be allowed to be a fucking parent.
How can she see that little girl sitting with a bloody icepack on her face and think, "oh well,if she wins a medal/cup/sash [insert pointless prestige symbol here] then it's worth it"
stupid stupid woman [anger]

AngryBeaver · 12/05/2011 18:30

oops,i mean Angry

Mishy1234 · 12/05/2011 18:34

Really, really awful. That poor child having to go through that.

YANBU

Ambi · 12/05/2011 18:48

What a sick bitch she is. That poor child. It's funny how the managers parents of these tortured girls are munters themselves. How can it be legal to inject poison into a childs face for "beauty".

slowshow · 12/05/2011 18:57

Sounds like it's a hoax, thankfully, dreamed up by an attention whore.

vintageteacups · 12/05/2011 19:00

If it's true, then I agree that it's nothing more than child abuse. Poor child.

My dd (9), doesn't even know what botox is!

Noop · 12/05/2011 19:08

I don't believe it! Daily Mail makes stuff up all the time...
