To think cosmetic botox for 8 year olds is utterly shocking and verging on child abuse?

I bet there are parents on this thread who have had cosmetic surgery done on their children. You probably called it circumcision. You might even have had a party afterwards.
At least botox wears off after a while.

mathanxiety · 12/05/2011 20:26

It's not a hoax. Child was interviewed, along with parent, on American TV. The botoxing was photographed.

heresiarch - deffo agree with you on that one

Doesn't the US have social services? Angry

Not wanting to get into the ins/outs of circumcision, but I would view having a circumcision for religious reasons in a totally different league (and discussion) to an 8 YO having botox for a beauty contest.

But it's a bit weird because I've thought about why I believe it's different, and I just can't work out why I think that.

Because it's been done for 1000s of years (so's murder, doesn't make it right) .

Because even if you don't feel the religious force behind the decision, you have to respect it (perhaps the mum in story has strong feelings).

Hygiene? Not necessary.

I just can't put my finger on it Confused

Makes me want to give the mother a right old slap and tell her to wind her neck in Angry.

Botox for medical reasons as part of treatment (hyperhydrosis etc) - OK.
Botox for cosmetic reasons - NO, NO, NO TOTALLY WRONG.

I was Shock, words fail me! Why are Child Welfare services not involved, this mum is abusing her child by injecting her CHILD with poison. Is she even qualified, thought a Dr had to do this.

I know this is all a bit off topic but it just came to me when I was reading the OP. I couldn't come up with any intrinsic difference other than one has a long tradition behind it and the other hasn't.

well, you only get circumcised once, whatever your rationale. and usually before you develop the capacity to remember it all your life.

this appears to be ritual abuse of a child who is going to remember that her mother inflicted pain on her deliberately and repetitively when she was 8yo because she was not good enough in her natural state.

i have had cosmetic surgery carried out on my then 6yo though. strabismus surgery.

QuickLookBusy · 12/05/2011 22:33

It's not verging on child abuse. It is child abuse.

I hope you are right slow

mathanxiety · 13/05/2011 05:37

I think there are concerns over where the mother was getting her botox from. I think botox access is controlled. And I heard that the local social services are checking into it too.
