To ask how quickly your washing machine works?

Not a serious AIBU really, the uniform thread got me thinking.

I bloody love my washing machine, it does a 40degree delicates cycle in 30mins, I can add a 10minute fast spin to get the clothes really dry. A 40 degree quickwash takes just over an hour.

So when I do forget to wash stuff for Monday morning, I can do it quite late and get stuff dry on the radiators/tumbler :)

When we were renting the washing machine had no timer on it to say how long was left and a 40degree cycle took nearly three hours Shock

How quick is yours?

30 deg quick wash = 30 minutes.

40 degree standard wash, 1h 25 minutes.

borderslass · 08/05/2011 22:48

Our quick wash is supposedly 53 minutes but in reality it now takes an hour and a half but the machine is 10 years old now.

speakercorner · 08/05/2011 22:48

A cottons wash is a ludicrous 120 mins. Darks (cool) is 45 mins. Never thought I would be the kind of person who knew to the minute how long my washing machine took!

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 08/05/2011 22:50

At least two hours haven't found a pattern yet either. It sometimes seems o take longer than usual without any apparent reason.
Sometimes it's over three hours... It's included in the rent though so can't get a different one

Meglet · 08/05/2011 22:51

I have a quick 30 min wash I use for most things. A normal 40 degree wash takes just over an hour, I use that for grubby clothes.

I sometimes blitz the towels on a 95 degree hot wash which takes 2hrs 10 mins.

Happymm · 08/05/2011 22:53

Can anyone explain why the Eco friendly energy efficient cycle takes the longest of all...?Confused

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/05/2011 22:55

No idea! A couple of hours sometimes. I never do a quick wash as I want my things to get properly clean.

onepieceofcremeegg · 08/05/2011 22:55

I think the eco cycle often heats the water less (i.e. heats it up to 40 or whatever but only for a short time) and then relies on a longer cycle so it is the action of the drum over a longer period that gets the clothes clean. (rather than the heat)

Same with my dishwasher. Eco setting takes longer but far less water and lower temp. It swooshes about for longer I think.

Happymm · 08/05/2011 22:56

Aaaah-thanks for enlightening me...:)

freeandhappy · 08/05/2011 22:58

I love mine. 1hr ready to wear cycle. Get up in the morning, crap, no clean pants, pop em in, have your shower, brekkie, ready to go. I use that a bit too often though because I'm disorganised and lazy.

Meglet · 08/05/2011 23:00

I wondered that too. My dishwasher has an eco programme which takes well over 2 hours.

controlpantsandgladrags · 09/05/2011 07:20

My machine is pretty old (more than 10 years).......a normal 40 wash takes 1.5 hours. It will do a 30 wash in half an hour but doesn't spin at the end.

lottiejenkins · 09/05/2011 07:24

I rent my machine. It has a "superquick" wash which lasts 20 minutes!!!

SarahStratton · 09/05/2011 07:26

Forever :(

Drives me mad. Around 1.5 hours for a 40 degree wash.

Shannaratiger · 09/05/2011 07:34

Mine takes 1hour 35minutes for a 40 wash 3.5 kg, and less for a 30 but I don't use that as it doesn't get the clothes clean or dry enough! The 40 degree cotton wash takes about 2.5 hours but washes 7kg of washing.

lljkk · 09/05/2011 08:02

2 hours @ 30 degrees. Like watching feckin' paint dry.

emptyshell · 09/05/2011 08:04

Give me a bit and I'll be able to tell you cos I put a load on at 7am. Sounds like it's hitting the spin part now an hour later at a 40 degree wash. It's got an express 30 minutes wash/dry cycle but it's not very good, and this particular washer stinks like buggery if you don't do a monthly maintenance wash cycle - which I never fucking did on my old one!

The drier on this part takes forfuckingever.... the whole machine's much slower than my old one which didn't survive the combination of the house move and freezing cold weather freezing up bits that didn't want to be frozen - now that was a crackingly good washing machine (rescued from awaiting the binmen in a friend's back yard nearly a decade ago, fixed up for a tenner - he'd jammed it with too much soap powder - and gave another decade's sterling service).

Dishwasher takes 2hours 30 on Auto, 33 minutes on Quick (has a nice LCD display) - but quick's only ever really useful when it's full of coffee cups and breakfast bowls!

sparkle12mar08 · 09/05/2011 08:08

I have a superquick 15min 40c cycle, good for about half a dozen items. A 40min 30c cycle, and a 53min 40c cycle all for 3.5kg, and can double the weights for about an extra hour's worth of time. My longest cycle is 2hrs 25 for a 60deg 7kg cotton (stained) programme.

BalloonSlayer · 09/05/2011 08:09

"Get up in the morning, crap, no clean pants, pop em in, have your shower, brekkie, ready to go."

Gwendoline, if you take your pants off before you crap your problems may be solved. Grin

valiumredhead · 09/05/2011 08:43

40 wash = 30 mins

but there are about 4 different options for 40 wash depending on what you need - longest being about 80 mins.

MollieO · 09/05/2011 09:37

1 hour for 40 wash, 15 min for fast wash (can alter temp and spin speed).

kw1986 · 09/05/2011 09:45

I usually just use the quick wash setting which is 34min, that can be done at 30 or 40 deg. The standard "wash" setting is 53min, this can be done at 30, 40, 60 deg but I rarely use this setting as it doesn't take in the softener for some reason...

It also has seperate rinse (at 24 min I think) and a spin (10 min) as well as many other settings that I dont use... To get a 90 deg cycle I'd have to use the cotton setting and thats 2h 40m

MisSalLaneous · 09/05/2011 09:57

Longer than 2 hours, it's absolutely rubbish and more than 7 years old (it was new, but in the house when we bought it). Luckily the tumble drier part broke, so we're getting a new one this Saturday. A Miele. My dream Miele. Grin Grin Grin
