in calling the police

To report a woman driving with an 8 month baby on her lap?

Couldn't belive what i was seeing. Woman picks child up from nursery, jumps in Landrover and drives away with child on her lap? What the hell is that all about. I know the woman only lives a street away but for Christ sake. Was that over the top?

Bloody stupid some people.

I saw a woman turning right out onto a main road, drinking a mug of coffee with one hand and steering with the other.

She had kids in the back too Sad

well DID you call the police??

AgentZigzag · 07/05/2011 23:06

Not over the top.

Not just because it's illegal but because of the danger to the baby.

What did the police say?

FlamingFannyDrawers · 07/05/2011 23:09

I did call the police. They said they would look into it. I gave her registration number so hopefully they went round and made her aware of the dangers. My 'friend' said i shouldnt have called the police because we know her. Whatever difference that makes...

OP posts:
worraliberty · 07/05/2011 23:11

I really doubt the police will bother to go round Sad

Really they can only deal with these things if they catch them in action.

I mean, she's hardly likely to admit to it...therefore the police officer wouldn't really be able to read the riot act/advise her not to do it again.

AgentZigzag · 07/05/2011 23:11

You'd hope if she's able to drive she'd be aware of the dangers of having a baby on your lap when you're driving.

LittleWhiteWolf · 07/05/2011 23:14

Urgh, I hate that some people can make you feel bad because "you know them". I also hate the phrase "dobbing me/you/him/them in".

You did the right thing OP, good for you. Laws are made for a reason and this mother clearly needs a kick up the backside to remind her how dangerous her actions could be.

FlamingFannyDrawers · 07/05/2011 23:15

It's just so irresponsible not to mention dangerous :/ I wish the police had caught her at the time, silly cow.

OP posts:
diggingintheribs · 07/05/2011 23:17

you did the right thing

I once saw a guy drive past with an under 2 on his lap - the dad had his seat belt on. But to make it worse - the kid was steering!! Dad had one hand out the window (elbow on sill hand on roof if you know what I mean). Couldn't see other hand on wheel.

Hate it when you see adults strapped in the front and kids jumping around in the back. No common sense

worraliberty · 07/05/2011 23:18

Unless she was breast feeding and it was hanging off her boob? Grin

No, you did the right thing..though I'm not sure they can do anything as they didn't see her.

FlamingFannyDrawers · 07/05/2011 23:22

Even if the make her aware that a report has been made? She'll maybe think twice before doing it again. If I hadn't have had my children with me I would have ran after the car and asked her what the fuck she was doing?

OP posts:
worraliberty · 07/05/2011 23:25

I'm really not sure if they would even go round and tell her a report has been made.

I could be wrong (hope I am) but really, imagine the amount of police time that could be spent with malicious reports if they were to operate like that? Sad

FlamingFannyDrawers · 07/05/2011 23:30

Yeah i see your point worraliberty. The only time they really would be aware of these things is if they were called out to an RTA :( poor baby. I'm sure its not the first and won't be the last.

worraliberty · 07/05/2011 23:37

I know Sad

I watching one of those police shows on Sky the other week and a couple had 4 kids crammed in the back of a small car, and the mother had a toddler on her lap in the front.

They just couldn't understand why the police officer was annoyed and wouldn't let them drive any further.

SurreyDad · 08/05/2011 00:03

Call social services. They don't require evidence to round and bother people.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/05/2011 00:07

Just a question, not trying to be rude or upset you OP, but are you one of those people who makes statements that sound like questions because of an inflection in their voice?
Just the random question marks make the voice in my head do that!

Punkatheart · 08/05/2011 00:10

A few months ago a woman was driving and checking her texts and drove into a woman and her son at a bus stop in a quiet road. Car ran off the road. Woman at bus stop was killed and her son badly injured. So this sort of irresponsible behaviour should be stopped....

FlamingFannyDrawers · 08/05/2011 00:18

random question marks LoopyLoops? Ok maybe one in the OP, can you point out the others please, thanks :) is wondering if i should put a question mark after the sentence

OP posts:
LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/05/2011 00:21

"If I hadn't have had my children with me I would have ran after the car and asked her what the fuck she was doing?"

That one in particular. Not meaning to be pedantic, just made me laugh the way I could hear my mental voice inflecting!

MollieO · 08/05/2011 00:22

There was a court case recently locally where a teenager was convicted of the death of a pedestrian she hit and killed whilst texting. What utterly amazed me was her mother was a passenger in the car. According to the reports her mother was a driving instructor.

LoopyLoopsBettyBoops · 08/05/2011 00:22

And the one in the OP.

backwardpossom · 08/05/2011 00:24

Could you confront her about it next time you see her? Obviously don't if she's built like a brick shit house. Wink

MollieO · 08/05/2011 00:25

Here

FlamingFannyDrawers · 08/05/2011 00:27

Lol Loopy the 'what the fuck she was doing' one was actually directed at the woman in question. As in 'what the fuck are you doing?' Sorry my grammar is pretty piss poor at the moment, i've been a SAHM for too long ;)
