WeightWatchers woman in odd dress just annoys me
Jammie Dodgers monkey advert is seriously odd
The birds eye strange teddy in freezer is creepy
The hotel ad with the aggressive teddy in bed is NASTY
All Halifax adverts, especially those offering me a 'great rate' (2% FFS)
All cosmetics adverts are boswellox.
DM ads p*ss me off, because I want what they offer, but refuse to buy the DM
I know I should just stop watching ads, or TV in general, but DO THEY THINK I AM STUPID??.

I know, but it has occurred to me that these people are spending £1000000000s persuading me that something untrue is true.
It must work or they wouldn't bother. So how do they get away with telling such lies?

Can I just ask, does anyone fill their house with plastic pebbles that pump out nausea-inducing synthetic smells? Just wondering who buys those bloody things...

ZillahWhoDrankTooMuchGin · 07/05/2011 22:40

The polar bear is like an abusive and controlling ex - very odd.

NorksAreMessy · 07/05/2011 22:42

It certainly isn't me!
And what does that woman DO all day if the height of her achievement is foxing her DH with a toxic pump?

I think this is an age-old example of 'you didn't know you had this problem, but here is the solution'
See also underarms and their need to be smooth. WTF?

Honeydragon · 07/05/2011 22:42

Bad form to link I know but if you want stealth advertising may I direct you here Grin

ZillahWhoDrankTooMuchGin · 07/05/2011 22:42

And the 'tummy controlling' swimsuit one is sooooo sexist - woman parading herself in front of three men Hmm - and it's bollocks too - there isn't enough lycra in the world to control my 'tummy'

Is it a coincidence she's in that 'red' usually reserved for body loathing special k ads???

LtEveDallas · 07/05/2011 22:43

But I do love the Cravendale cats with thumbs ad...

ZillahWhoDrankTooMuchGin · 07/05/2011 22:44

PMSL Honey - maybe we should all go over there and say how great that sounds and how we'll all be rushing out....Grin

NorksAreMessy · 07/05/2011 22:46

Hmmm,Honeydragon, I suspect that that isn't actually a realio trulio proper mumsnetter!!!:)
tummy controlling, Zillah, I agree with you, in fact ALL M&S ads ttreat me as an idiot. Sometimes, the clothes even look crap on the models, so I have NO HOPE :(

OP posts:
Honeydragon · 07/05/2011 22:46

Oh don't worry, I thought about reporting but I may just return.......

NorksAreMessy · 07/05/2011 22:49

Oh dear, LtEve, you are right, some ads a properly funny.
Damn, my moral high ground has been undermined.
I think the advert with a little white westie dog in it is ADORABLE.

Doesn't mean I will buy the reconstituted crap for my little white westie dog, though

OP posts:
Honeydragon · 07/05/2011 22:51

I've incorporated a consumer query into the scampi thread and am awaiting Whitby to launch frozen ham Grin

All the M&S adverts annoy me too

qo · 07/05/2011 22:51

I LOVE that toffee/jammy dodgers advert!!

melpomene · 07/05/2011 22:53

The ones that annoy me are when they are faking it entirely, eg mascara ads with a disclaimer saying "model has lash extensions and has been modified in post production" Hmm

InAStateOfReflux · 07/05/2011 22:54

PMSL at the Whitby Scampi!

confuddledDOTcom · 07/05/2011 22:55

No mentioned the intelligent life in the universe!

NorksAreMessy · 07/05/2011 22:56

Qo, you are perhaps a bit odd.
What is good about strange monkeys persuading a grown-up to buy sugary crap in a creepy way???? Please explain. I may be missing some other level of this. Is ther a cultural reference that I am too ancient to appreciate?

OP posts:
qo · 07/05/2011 22:57

No I just think it's mad... in a good way! It made me laugh too.

NorksAreMessy · 07/05/2011 23:00

Melpomene, YES!
How do they get away with this?
DO THEY THINK WE ARE STUPID? Do they think that our mascra is so thick and lustrous that we can't read small print at the bottom of a screen?
Good article in today's Guardian about cellulite cream, which is basically snake oil.
Are men peddled crap in the expectation that they will believe anything? I don't mean men's cosmetics, which I don't really believe men actually BUY?!?!?! Are car adverts crapola too. ( certainly not aimed at me, that's for sure)

OP posts:
Honeydragon · 07/05/2011 23:10

Can someone please tell me what cellulite is? Everyone who says they have has something different to the other.

Does it just mean your arse isn't airbrushed?

NorksAreMessy · 07/05/2011 23:14

Honeydragon...I can show you cellulite....oh yes I can show you LOTS of cellulite, but you might not have eaten yet.
My thighs look like a relief map of the Brecon Beacons...gorgous :(
But basically, no cream can sink through the skin and attack FAT...oh that I wish it could

OP posts:
Honeydragon · 07/05/2011 23:17

If you're dimply, so am I......... and stop being so silly the Brecon Beacons are lovely Wink

ZillahWhoDrankTooMuchGin · 07/05/2011 23:18

Cellulite / Orange peel skin & Bingo wings etc. - all designed to make women feel bad. Not many men or women's upper arms don't wobble at least a little bit when they clap...the ad men clearly sit there and think about the next thing they can hit us with....

....i'm waiting for the ads about eyeballs not being white enough....

also - i fucking hate the biooil ones Sad - the one where the woman say having scars makes her feel less womanly....as someone with noticeable scarring (only on my legs and ankles thankfully) i would like to punch severely the bloke who came up with that one.....

NorksAreMessy · 07/05/2011 23:19

I like honey and I love dragons.
You are very king HoneyDragon...but really...ick!
Apparently exercise works, so I am leaping up hills several times a week.

Anyway, back to bitching about ads, please tell me that nobody REALLY rushes out to feed their family from a KFC BUCKET just because the music is pretty???
