They are not pedigrees. They are crossbreeds bred for funny names Hmm
labradoodles, cockerpoos, sprockers, yorkipoos.
If you're desperate for a dog, go and rescue one that some feckless idiot has already bred and couldn't be bothered to be responsible about.
Don't put money in the pockets of some tosser who has bred a random non-breed so they can call it designer and sniffer at the name.
Labradoodles were bred carefully to be non-shedding guide dogs for blind people with allergies. A lot of thought and work went into breeding these. Shoving a random Labrador and poodle together shouldn't mean charging nearly £1000 for the offspring.

I don't care if IABU :o

Would a cross between a Jack Russell and and Shitzhu be a Jack Shit?

mayorquimby · 08/05/2011 00:35

I'd only ever get a rescue dog.

But Labradoodles are bloody brilliant.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 08/05/2011 00:45

I have an Siamese MausHund.

His name is Puss. Grin

monkeyfacegrace · 08/05/2011 00:50

Im drunk, so cant add much, except to say that I have THE most adorable pugs curled up on me, both who were kept in a 3ft x3ft box for 6 years in a shed to produce pups that were sold for £1k+ each, then abandoned in the snow a few xmas's ago. When I had the bitch spayed her womb was so floppy is was like an elastic band. She has ESP, breathing prbs and collapsed trachia, and a rcurring hernia, and I ADORE her.

All health prblems due to fucking inbreeding to produce flat faces and so twatty girls young ladies ca parade them around as a status icon.

Dicks.

If that's what you can say when pissed then you'll be an even BIGGER asset to rescue/the fight against puppy farming when sober monkey!

WELL SAID and bless ya for caring and for saving your pugs.

fit2drop · 08/05/2011 01:24

We bought our younger golden labrador then when his daddies owner died, we took him on too otherwise he would have gone to a rescue centre,

Best decision ever having our two LABRADORABLES Grin

delillah247 · 08/05/2011 13:58

Obviously i know nothing, and to be honest was basing my opinions on that bbc documentary. But I paid £200 for her, too much? Both her parents were KC registered, and had eye checks, she is 4 years old and so far seems really healthy. So fingers crossed i havent made a huge mistake. Sorry if my post offended, it wasn't meant to.

LaWeasel · 08/05/2011 14:13

The things everyone forgets about labradoodles.

But which the guy who invented them talks about, is that if you're buying one because you have allergies you have to TEST the individual puppy's fur against the prospective owner. Each litter that is breed now is less and less likely to cause no allergy problems.

So people who buy them for that reason may well be in for a nasty shock if they're getting them from an irresponsible breeder who isn't sorting out the allergy tests to match you up with the right puppy.

MothershipG · 08/05/2011 17:05

LaWeasal - What's the point of testing the puppy fur when at around 6 months the adult coat can come in completely different? I know a few that have come into rescue for this reason, owners had been fine with the puppy coat but the adult coat set off their allergies. Sad

Personally, I don't have a problem with cross-breeding as long as the breeder is responsible, does all the health tests required for both parents, doesn't overbreed, retains responsibility for every dog they produce for the whole of it's life and isn't in it just for the money. Unfortunately these are about as common as hen's teeth. Angry

LaWeasel · 08/05/2011 17:11

That's true too. More rubbish breeders that don't know/or don't warn the owners.

In the orginial set up it was for a guide dog, so puppy had to br trained, they started off with the puppies that passed the allergy test and then did the training with them by which point I guess the adult coat was in.

My point really is that relying on any animal ever to be anti-allergic is pretty stupid. IF you have allergies, you can't really bank on any one breed of any animal being your solution. It is probably best to just give up on furry animals. It sucks, but is true.

It is really sad to realise just how many rubbish breeders there are out there.

Baffledandbewildered · 08/05/2011 17:29

We breed setter and spend a small fortune on health tests and checks. we could do it cheaply, but we want to produce future generations of healthy happy dogs. The money is irrelevant to us and any dog breed by us would always have a home if returned to us. Just mating two dogs of the same or different breeds is irresponsible PLEASE BY FROM TESTED PARENTS. People need to do their homework about their choice of breed, look at the health issues and dont presume that be breeds being kennel club registered dogs means health tested dogs it doesnt. Parents of two different breeds bring potentially two lots of health problems and people need to learn this.

Well who gives a shit? As long as they are being looked after and not ending up in rescue centres like many 'pedigrees'. What's the problem?

Leela5 · 23/12/2014 07:23

I do wish people would just rescue instead of breeding more dogs :(

So many beautiful dogs in rescue centres, victims of cruelty or unwanted

FayKorgasm · 23/12/2014 07:44

My parents rescued a beautiful red setter who had been used for designer breeding. Her reproductive system was in such a state she needed most of it removed along with some of her vagina. She had basically been used to breed litter after litter of pups that were obviously from a much bigger dog. Theres loads of pure breds and crossbreeds in rescues all over the country, intentional breeding is irresponsible.

eyebags63 · 23/12/2014 07:56

I couldn't agree more. Too many people breed dogs for a quick buck and do not care where they end up (often in rescue or being put down).

Both of mine came from rescue organisations and I believe everyone looking for a dog should look at what rescues have to offer before going to a breeder.

Also don't just look at the big name charities like the RSPCA and Dogs trust, there are many smaller independent organisations run on shoe string budgets that have many lovely dogs needing homes - often puppies/young dogs too - and they tend not to have ridiculous re-homing procedures like the bigger names.

cockerpoos, sprockers, yorkipoos, etc. Just overpriced mutts. YANBU
