to think cat owners should clear up cat shit in little plastic bags

like dog owners do ?

every spring i clear the flower beds and every spring the neighbourhood cats take this as a signal to use it as their toilet.

dirty bastards. I know i should blame the owners for not providing them with a litter tray but AIBU to think an air rife and some slugs might be the quckest way to end this menace?

PaWithaBra - just buy your own bundle of fluffy joy. Go to the RSPCA + rescue a female cat that can't go to a home 'with other cats and young children'. AKA an aggressive + territorial cat who will attack any cats who dare to enter 'her' garden.

(Just provide a fresh litter tray for your new cat, and lots of treats + cuddles of course).
Trust me, you will never get any cat shit in your garden again....

My cats stopped using their litter tray when they started getting outside and I don't know where they go now so it would be impossible fir me to pick it up. I'd rather they used a litter tray but they just won't.

I had a big problem with neighbours cats pooping in my front garden so I bought an ultrasonic cat scarer and now have no problems with pop in the garden. I would recommend it.

I think I have successfully got rid of a cat thatkept coming into my garden and house - despite no encouragement and constantly being chased away. I picked the cat up by the scruff of the neck and put it outside my garden.

My vet - I havea dog - told me this trick. Because cats only get picked up by the scruff when they are kittens, doing this to a cat is humiliating for them - so they avoid coming into your garden in case it happens again.

My cats actively shit in my flowerbed that separates our drive from the neighbours, my neighbour plants his flowers in there cos we don't bother, I find it hilarious watching my neighbour put his hand in shit on a regular basis.... But that's cos he's total nob head and I despise him for other reasons.
But my cats have a litter tray but I guess they still shit elsewhere aside from either keeping them inside all the time or following them round the neighbourhood with a bag all day, theres not really much I can do about it.

Tallypet · 07/05/2011 11:26

ARE YOU SERIOUS? My cat is an outdoor cat... are you suggesting that I follow him around with a plastic bag in case he poops? Should I knock on my neighbours doors up and down my street inspecting their gardens for cat sh*t? Surely you must have something else to rant about?! This is the most ridiculous post.

Cats used our garden as a loo terribly, it used to stink being out in the garden. Now we seem pretty lucky touchwood. Put up high fencing with prikka strips on the top and got a huge wooden gate. They have walked accross it hobbling slowly but exit into other gardens as I presume hate being in the garden and having to jump up on them to get out. Really please it worked and now dd can actually grow stuff and have fun in the garden. Got rid of our grass too and had patio slabs instead. Works a treat.

I found a cat in my utility room lying on a basket of washing last night. I was tempted to set the dog on it because it pissed me off but I'm not actually cruel to animals.
Had to rewash the clothes because DH is allergic to cats.
Goodness knows whose cat it is though because we live in the middle of nowhere

At my old house they used to poo on my veg. Not a happy bronzey

bemybebe · 07/05/2011 11:53

Sounds like you need to close the door next time you go to sleep bronzey Wink

It was evening and a lovely day and the window was open

catchafallingstar · 07/05/2011 12:04

Buy an ultrasonic cat deterrent - bought one about a month ago and nocat poo in front garden since. They do however seem to have moved on to my neighbours garden which i find funny as they have 3 cats ( some of which, I am sure, pooped in my garden previously).

What about pigeon and fox shit? That's far more of an issue in my garden than cat shit. Also cats in general bury their turds, it's not left randomly on pavements for people to tread in.

smilingcl · 07/05/2011 17:56

We have two cats, one is outdoorsy and likes to shit outside, the other is more housey and only uses the litter tray. My dp was trying to encourage the housey one to go outside and do it, by leaving the litter tray outside. I was not fully in agreement of this as I have guilt about the number of stinky cat turds our boys are adding to the estate. But DP says it's natural. We're in a raised maisonette with a decked roof terrace out the back.. DP has built a vegetable box on it which is his pride and joy, I nearly died laughing when he started preparing it for this years crop and the cats had clearly been using that as their outside loo instead. V funny. Won't be eating his vegetables :)

My cats have a litter tray and are quite fond of shitting in our garden (was digging a new flowerbed last weekend and they were on there as soon as my back turned) My neighbours (side we are attached to ) are arses but unfortunately the cats also dislike them so don't shit in their garden - probably because the twat has been known to kick them (when he thought I wasn't there).

We also have an African Land snail - perhaps next time I clean Freds tank I should lob the shit over the fence
