to think this receptionist should not have actually huffed at me?

DS had a docs appointment today. Just as his appointment got called up, he tells me he needs the toilet. He apparently couldn't hold it (he is 4.9yo), so I ran to the Receptionist and said:

I'm very sorry but I need to take him to the toilet, we won't be more than 2 minutes, could you please let the Doctor know?

She actually huffed out loud and tutted.

I then, quite riled said 'Well, I don't really want him making a mess in the (doctor's) room, do I?'

I can understand being pissed off but hardly necessary to huff and tut out loud at a child needing the toilet.

When we got into the Doc's room by the way, I was very apologetic. He looked at me weirdly and said, 'Well, needs must at 4yo' quite cheerfully...

Well, I think you have to be 4 shades of dragon to be a Doctors' Receptionist don't you? You probably got off lightly.

YANBU.

Fecking officious GP receptionists. Do they have to pass a special exam to be that bloody arsey, anyway?

With very few exceptions, most doctor's receptionists that I've encountered are in urgent need of vocational guidance.

If you're seriously pee'd (no pun intended) off about her attitude, why not have a quiet word with the Practice Manager?

Valpollicella · 05/05/2011 23:33

I really do understand the pressure they are under and the utter crap they have to deal with by the way :)

And (aibu by stealth sorry) DS is a child who is not happy about public toilets when he needs to go for a no. 2, so the fact that even he needed to tell me to take him was enough to tell me he really needed to go, right then!

So for him to be huffed and tutted at for needing to go really riled me...

yabu had my dd 4 done this I would have huffed myself, they all have thier moments. Just like dd half way into swimming lessons tonight anounced she needed a wee! tuff you'll have to wait! I have no idea if she waited or not Grin Grin

but that is a pet hate of mine...when dcs indiscriminatly need the toilet especialy when us parents give them every last oppertunity to wee and they just, with very little fore thought just pass it off. Angry

Valpollicella · 05/05/2011 23:46

But it's ok for you to huff at them Itsabiggy! You're their mum Grin

I don't appreciate being huffed at by a someone when they are a) at work, and representing an organization/workplace/whatever and b) they don't know the circumstances (especially as we were at the doctors - what if we were there for a bowel problem for DS?)

If I huffed and tutted at someone whilst at work, it would be seen as very unprofessional. I wouldn't dream of doing it. Even if I was massively put out or pissed off.

OP posts:
worraliberty · 05/05/2011 23:48

I just honestly wouldn't register her huffing and puffing...let alone still be thinking of it hours later.

Feck 'em that's what I say!

chubbly · 05/05/2011 23:48

What is it about GP receptionists? Mine all wear corporate uniforms and are horrible on the telephone. Plus those times I need them to book things- argh don't get me started on the level of incompetence! I know they are stressed buts it's part of the job, they could always be a recetionidt for a normdl company instead. Actually any thoughts on how to complain about the recepionists? I actually have serious complaints but don't want them to just get filed in the bin by the head receptionist.

MotherMucca · 05/05/2011 23:53

"If I huffed and tutted at someone whilst at work, it would be seen as very unprofessional. I wouldn't dream of doing it. Even if I was massively put out or pissed off."

Yes, that's the point. I would be pulled up if I spoke to people whom I work with in this way. Rightly so.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 05/05/2011 23:53

itsabiggy.

Shock

Seriously, you don't care if your DD urinated in the pool.

I hope you don't live near me.

ffs

ChaosTrulyReigns · 05/05/2011 23:53

Too cross to punctuate correctly.

itsabiggywhatdoidonow · 05/05/2011 23:55

I do agree was just being witty. GP receptionists never registar on my conciousnes anyway, they are an insignificant means to an end.

Valpollicella · 05/05/2011 23:55

Worra, I was really just wondering about it that's all. If we didn't post on MN about things that had happened to us a few hours ago this place would have tumbleweed running past right now Grin I just thought it was innapropriate behavior and am seeking validation for that Grin

Chubbly, I don't want this to turn into 'all GP's Receptionists are horrible etc' If you have a complaint, then get the name of the practice manager who should be able to help you out

OP posts:
ChaosTrulyReigns · 05/05/2011 23:56

Oh, well if it's witty to let your DD to urinate in the pool, that's alright then.

Hmm
itsabiggywhatdoidonow · 05/05/2011 23:58

rieng it in chaos, of course she waited! do you not understand a joke!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 06/05/2011 00:15

Yes, I understand humour.

Hmm

But I am doubtful that this was humour, just a veiled attempt at covering your tracks when you realised that what you said was deemed unacceptable.

Sorry for the hijack OP.

Itsabiggy, really, really no need to be so offensive.

Chaos isn't acting like a 'twat', and even if she were, 'fuck off twat' is a pretty nasty way of addressing someone on a forum, given all she did was respond to your posts.

OP posts:
ChaosTrulyReigns · 06/05/2011 00:40

I'd love to know how I've acted as you say.

I pointed out that what you intimated your DD did was unacceptable, and then also suggested that you then tried the child-like covering-up of the humour-in-hindsight defence.

CurrySpice · 06/05/2011 00:44

Are you a doctor's receptionist itsabiggie?

CurrySpice · 06/05/2011 00:46

Because if you're not you've missed your vocation. You've got the professional attitude down to a tee!
