To want to lose weight quickly so that I can change my life for the better?

I know that to lose weight sensibly is to do it slowly but I am so much stuck in a rut that I need quick results...
I need to lose 3 stone and once I have done that I can dress nicely and feel good about myself which will hopefully start me on the right path to becoming happier and more content.
I know happiness comes from within but its very difficult to feel my own within under so many layers of fat....my family are all slim and I look like I eat my own and their food!! Its very depressing!
I put on weight over 4 years when I started working and doing OU at the same time...I am now going to Uni in Sept to hopefully achieve a life long dream and feel that the outside of me does not reflect the inside..
Please please please if you have any quick ways of losing weight let me know...many thanks xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I started WW in January, and I've lost 37.5lbs, only 4.5lbs from 3 stone. Have a fair way more to go, but I can feel and see the difference. I am now losing 1.5lb's a week, which is a sensible sustainable way.

This diet has made me reassess my portions, looked at my bad habits, helped me understand what I was doing wrong etc. I eat what I want, when I want, but I make sure it's within reason.

I walk everyday, 5-10 miles, I actually have a figure, haven't had one for 10 years. I feel great, so can't imagine how great I'll feel come goal weight next year!

The reason I started dieting was because I sat my GCSE last year, and got a B...I worked bloody hard for it, and achieved it, made me realise I am capable of doing stuff when I put my mind to it. I am at Uni, started in October, was 3st heavier than I am now, and I feel fantastic.

I'm impatient, but I accepted it would take time, which it has, and will, but by goal weight, I'll have my head in the right place to sustain it.

Casey, have you tried tracking your food, there is a great free online service called MyFitnessPal.

I would also suggest not losing too much quickly as you will put it back on.

Casey I could have written that myself.

But please don't try and do it super-quick, I did when I was about 20 and have literally yoyoed ever since :(.

OP I have lost 50lb since first week in Jan, I do Diet Chef and keep a record of the calories I eat by using [http://www.myfitnesspal.com/].
The food is fantastic and it is so easy you don't even feel like you are on a diet.

I've just started doing the dukan diet, it's the one that the female Middletons did before the wedding.

If you google it you will find it, I really like it, it suits me perfectly. It's all about reducing fat and sugar and refined carbs, and it coaches you over the internet. It's very personalised and you have to report every day on how you are doing, what your weaknesses are etc, which helps to keep you motivated. Might be worth a look.

Hello Casey, and no, YANBU. :)

What is helping me is being on a thread on here. Before, I would make excuses why I needed that piece of toast, how I deserved that Mars bar, but now I'm listing my intake daily, I know how crap those excuses will seem.

Also, drink water, gallons of it. I am shocked at how I confused hunger with thirst.

I started on a low carb, low fat regime about two and a half months ago, and I lost a stone and a half in four weeks. So the weight loss was pretty extreme even though the diet is pretty sensible. I am about five pounds from my ideal weight now.

Good luck to you- Put your mind to it, and you will do it x

Thanks everyone..
I looked at the dukan diet and it looked great but unfortunately I just cannot afford it ....I know I prob spend more money then I realise on food and alcohol but we are trying to cut down on expenses at the moment, another reason to stop drinking.

I'm doing the Dukan diet as well - I've lost 17lb in 12 weeks - I really enjoy it, I haven't found it TBH. Loads of meat though so no good for any vegetarians out there.

  • I haven't found it more expensive than any other diet.

Ooh, glad I'm not the only one doing dukan! I'm on day 2 of attack phase, lost two pounds already. Cruise starts tomorrow Smile I signed up this weekend because they emailed me with a 50% off offer. They might email offers again soon if you do the thing where you just find out your true weight and give them your email address.

I'm finding it quite expensive because of all the meat I'm eating. I have bought LOADS though. Steak is my friend.

Read The Four Hour Body by Tim Ferriss - some great shortcuts in there.

Bubble, turkey is cheap, and is the best for being low fat and high protein.

Sainburys has a special offer on salmon fillets at the moment. Half price, so you get 4 steaks for a fiver. That is 4 dinners! And it is fresh, so can be frozen.

Eggs are not expensive either.

I have found my variation of the dukan diet fairly cheap to do so far.

Thanks squeaky. Smile

You are right, turkey is cheap, I should get myself some! I've been doin chicken and steak mostly so far, just because that's what I like best. There is a chance that I'm indulging in steak slightly too much. Eggs are also fab, in fact I got some freebies from a friend who has chickens.

I don't eat anything that comes out of the sea though, I have a slightly wierd phobia about fish and seafood. Monseiur Dukan is having none of it though, I was only allowed to exclude 32 proteins from my list of food I don't like, and there are loads of fishy things on there! But thanks for the tip!

Turkey is great, you can get turkey mince and make a shepherds pie (with cauliflower mash, which isnt as good as the real thing, but comes a decent second)...

The dukan diet is very heavy on fish, which is lucky for me as I prefer fish to meat.

I did a great steak though the other night. Bought cheap frying steak, and marinated it in olive oil, garlic, chilli flakes and black pepper. Then fried it with no extra oil, and had it medium rare. It was very good and a lot cheaper than rump or fillet.

If you eat liver then that is cheap and full of iron too.

lose a couple of pounds a week and you'll be fine, its slow enough but you'll soon notice the difference.

it's a marathon, not a sprint to lose weight sustainably. I wasn't particularly overweight but list a stone and a half in 9 months. It's made a lot of difference, feels sustainable and it will last. Quick diets nearly always fail. It also means you don't need to be so harsh with yourself " i must not have this, i cannot have that". Find a happy medium. Eat just a little less, cut down on the meat and animal fats, increase your exercise . dieting alone without exercise is ineffective. do this and you'll lose weight. don't crash diet !

There is no quick and easy way to lose all of that weight. You did not put the weight on overnight and so you won't lose it over night either.

Don't do a drastic diet as you will get tired, headachey, lack energy and you will crave the wrong things.

Start by cutting down portion sizes and going to the gym regularly. You'll lose a little, feel better and want to lose more.

I have found that results creep up on you sometimes without you noticing. I started going to the gym regularly and was feeling mroe active than ever beofre. I'd lost a little weight but not a huge amount. Then one day when i was getting changed I noticed in the mirror that the saggy love hnadles on my back and sides had gone. It was very difficult to pick up any fat at all on my back. Next stop ass and thighs......

Results won't be instant but you'll notice them if you keep at it. It may take you 6 - 12 months but you'll do it as long as you don't give up.

Good for you Casey. It is SO true that if you lose it quickly you will put it all on - and more. I have been there!
THE secret of having the right approach imo is to value yourself NOW. Dieting full of self loathing just doesn't work because you start on a downer, and then on your first bad day you feel SO bad (because you loathe yourself AND you're desperate to eat something you 'shouldn't' and because of whatever else it is contributing to your bad day) that you are then far more likely to give up and give yourself that 'treat' you need.
So dress nicely, do your hair and make up and don't ever think 'when I am a stone lighter I will be worth making the best of'. You're worth it now.

Do it slowly and start now!

I had put on a stone since marrying and having my DS. I expected the weight to fall off through breastfeeding and exercising but I was eating (and drinking) far too much.

I joined ww on DS's 2nd birthday. I have been going for 12 weeks and have lost 12lb so far.

I did look Ok before ww but my clothes were too tight and I didn't want to go out socialising. Now I look and feel tons better and I am only 3lbs from my goal weight.

Good luck.

Not sure what you mean by quick? I have lost almost 3.5 stone in 6 months, (first 2.5 stone in 4 months) am now a size 10. No real secret, lots of exercise (so am toned), basically eating only lean protein and vegetables (dukan), no sugar or carbs (ie fruit / alchohol / potatoes, rice , bread, pasta). By September you could make a big difference though, and be close to target.

But now I need to work at keeping it off and I gradually need to increase the amount of carbs I eat.

But I will not let my good work go to waste! So yes I am thinking about how I look at food.

The best thing to do is lots of toning, which will make you look thinner, get some new make up clothes, hair done etc to make you feel like you are changing dramatically.
Also set yourself an interesting project to focus on so that you do not obsess about weight loss.
