Fergie should have been at the wedding..

Even though she has made a tit of herself and tried to exploit her royal connections, she is still mother to Beatrice and Eugenie and surely has a lot more right to be at the wedding that at least some of the 1,900 guests that got an invite to on or other of the 3 parts of the event...

Ha! Shirley I said that out loud as well!

And DH said YES!

marilyntaylor · 29/04/2011 18:02

When DH and I got married, it never occurred to us to invite his brother's ex wife, even though she was the mother of BIL's two daughters. Equally, when BIL remarried, he didn't invite my DH's first wife. Nobody questioned either of these decisions. Why would they? Do the people who think Fergie should have been invited, also think that Mark Phillips (Princess Anne's first husband) should have been there? After all, he was William's uncle when he was born.

pooka · 29/04/2011 18:03

No she shouldn't. My mother wasn't invited to my cousin's wedding. She isn't married to his uncle (my father) any more. Not related in any way apart from by ex-marriage.

ShirleyKnot · 29/04/2011 18:04

I had to rewind it on Sky plus to prove my point...it was only when I was 20 seconds in that I realised my terrible mistake. [shame]

meditrina · 29/04/2011 18:05

ShirleyKnot - I thought that too!

FabbyChic · 29/04/2011 18:06

I disagree, she doesn't deserve any royal connections and is an embarassment to the royal family. Certainly she hasn't done a good job bringing up her kids they have terrible taste in clothes and one is overweight bordering on the obese.

Esme69 · 29/04/2011 18:07

I can see the reasons for not inviting her, but it is more because as someone said above there must be hundreds of those 1900 guests who have never met william or kate and yet they were seen to be important enough to be invited, and yet Beatrice and Eugenie, (4th and 5th in line to throne) could not have their mother included in the event.

Why do people think she was around when the boys grew up? It wasnt like normal folk you know.

nobetterthanthat · 29/04/2011 18:16

It probably wouldn't occur to me to invite my uncles ex and mother of my adult cousins tbh. I was at a wedding recently where the ex aunt was invited but the uncle wasn't, because he is a dickhead and the nice 'aunt' and teenage cousins wouldn't have gone and everyone would have been uncomfortable.

A1980 · 29/04/2011 18:32

I don't think she should have been there.

It was William's and Catherine's wedding, not hers or one of her daughters. The Middleton's had not even met the Queen until a few weeks ago and I dare say Sarah Ferguson has never laid eyes on Catherine or any of her family members. She probably hasn't seen William for years either. Why would they invite her.

Are any of you on this thread divorcees? If so, are you still hanging around your ex DH and ex in-laws and being treated like one of the family as if nothing ever happened? Would any of you realisitially be invited to your ex husbands, nephews wedding? I doubt it. It's ludicrous.

This is also the woman who was caught recently trying to sell access to Andrew for cash.

Princess Anne did not invite her ex husband either. Why would she?

purpleknittingmum · 29/04/2011 18:32

Shirleyknot, me too!!

jojowest · 29/04/2011 18:32

nah, who wants that daft cow at their wedding

she probs flogged her invite on ebay

LisaD1 · 29/04/2011 18:44

I think she should have been invited purely for the entertainment value she would have brought, she is mad as a box of frogs!

When I got married, obviously a slightly less regal event Wink I invited my uncles ex wife because she was an amazing aunt to me when I was growing up, her children (my cousins) and her new husband also came, he ex husband (my uncle- mums brother) was not invited because he is/was a twat.

megapixels · 29/04/2011 18:48

I thought it was Al-Fayed too! Such a close resemblance but even then I knew it couldn't actually be him Wink.

pinkytheshrinky · 29/04/2011 18:57

Yes it was the toe sucking and toplessness that finished her off wasn't it? Shame because she and Andrew get on really well apparently.

But no she shouldn't be there even though I really heart her

COCKadoodledooo · 29/04/2011 19:03

I didn't invite my aunt's ex-h to my wedding either, even though both my aunt and my cousin (his daughter, who I'm close to and grew up with). Never gave it a thought, they'd been divorced for years.

That makes me a naysayer - YABU.

AitchTwoOh · 29/04/2011 19:08

i remember reading about her divorce settlement, she got absolutely SHAFTED. that said, of course she shouldn't still be hanging around with her ex's family.

GitAwfMayLend · 29/04/2011 19:11

I don't think she should have been there - not normal to invite your uncles ex wife when they divorced 15 years ago.

They may well not be close - it's not as if Aunt Sarah babysat William and Harry is it?

80sMum · 29/04/2011 19:13

I don't see why Fergie should have been invited at all. She is the ex-wife of William's uncle so is not related to him in any way. Beatrice and Eugenie, on the other hand, are William's first cousins, so very closely related.

frantic51 · 29/04/2011 19:18

It depends on the relationship I think. I have my brother's ex wife staying with me for a few days and would definitely invite her to my children's weddings. But then she is awesome and we get along really well. I doubt that I would be invited to any of my ex's nephew's and niece's weddings though because I am a complete cow and none of his family have ever liked me! Grin

southeastastra · 29/04/2011 19:20

i thought she should have gone, she was close to diana if nothing else. feel a bit sad for her

floweryblue · 29/04/2011 19:30

When DP's sis got married, DP's XW was invited and, as DP was giving his sis away, I attended the wedding with XW and their children. I think it does depend on the relationship with family overall which dictates who to invite.

The thing that looked odd to me was that the 'ugly' (sorry but they did look awful) sisters were so high profile when their other first cousins Zara and Peter (was he even there?) seemed to be sidelined a little.

Lonnie · 29/04/2011 19:55

I didnt invite my xstep mother to my wedding let along a x aunt..

Lonnie · 29/04/2011 19:56

alone not along [csmile]

shuddaville · 29/04/2011 20:03

She'd have probably tried to sell her invite
