aibu to think teachers should

to think teachers should work like the rest of us.

Just have 5-6 weeks of a year and work 8-5 mon to fri.

If this happened then they would get all the time they needed to set up lessons and teacher train etc during the time the kids were on holiday.

[this is inspired by another thread]

I don't know any paramedics who have not been to school.

Where are the uneducated UK paramedics hiding, do tell OP?

TethersEnd · 28/04/2011 22:05

The difference is, ivy, nobody has started a thread saying that paramedics are lazy whinging bastards. If they did, I'm sure you would refute those assertions- or, to use the term du jour whinge.

ivykaty44 · 28/04/2011 22:06

teachers don't have a monoploy on hard work, long hours and stress.

I have no idea how many paramedics would have been home educated, how many paremedics do you know that have been through school mooonwkjer?

diabolo · 28/04/2011 22:06

goodbyemrschips - you are on your own now! I really am off to bed in a minute. [ sleepy emoticon]

JamieAgain · 28/04/2011 22:07

ivy - no one ever slags off paramedics. Lots of people very unfairly slag off teachers, That's the difference

I can't see the words lazy whinge bastards in the op first post

TethersEnd · 28/04/2011 22:08

That, and that this is a thread about teachers. Two differences.

ivykaty44 · 28/04/2011 22:09

hmm no one ever slags off paramedics - actually they do and they abuse them, both verbally and physicaly and hundreds of lost days at work each year due to this

JamieAgain · 28/04/2011 22:09

it;s not a very informed OP though. It implies something that's not true. And is therefore derogatory and has led people to defend themselves.

The OP is a big wind-up merchant

goodbyemrschips · 28/04/2011 22:09

I am off as well, this is a one day thread.

Won't be back.

Blimey, most teachers aren't trying to say they have the hardest job in the world, just trying to demonstrate that they don't have the easiest in response to claims to the contrary! Or is that not allowed?

TethersEnd · 28/04/2011 22:10

I didn't say those words were in the OP's post, ivy. I said if someone were to say that about paramedics, you would refute it. As would I.

JamieAgain · 28/04/2011 22:10

ivy - no-one on MN, I meant. Quite rightly

moonwakjer · 28/04/2011 22:10

Ivy - who said teachers had a monopoly on hard work, long hours and stress??? And if a teacher comes on here and says that she worked long hours, works hard and is stressed then why do you have a problem with her viewpoint??

To answer your question - I've never met a home educated paramedic, but that is neither here nor there.

Paramedics who have been home educated have still been taught! They have still had a teacher!

exoticfruits · 28/04/2011 22:10

I would love to put any of these people who think that teachers have it easy in front of a class for a week-that would soon change their mind!

JamieAgain · 28/04/2011 22:11

byeee mrschips.

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 28/04/2011 22:11

Noone here is saying how easy a paramedics job is though. You don't encounter people who are telling you that you should be working harder! That is the difference.
I haven't seen any teachers start a thread about how hard the job is, but I believe that we should be allowed to defend our position!

Actually, I love my job, I think it's the best job in the world. I won't complain about any aspect of the job (though I would love the hours suggested in the op!) other than the irritating people who tell me how easy it is.
You all have the option - retrain and become a teacher yourself if it is such an easy option. I have no idea why you don't GBMC?

alistron1 · 28/04/2011 22:13

ivykaty - if you had read this thread you would have seen that most teachers would love to work 8-5 mon-fri and have 5/6 weeks off. They'd get paid for their hours then for a start off!!!

As for all the NUT bashers, well I am so sorry that a union has been campaigning for a long time for decent professional standards, terms and conditions. What many people don't realise is that during the 'boom' teachers were being paid less than (say) call centre operatives and were not the ones getting massive pay rises, bonuses and perks.

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 28/04/2011 22:13

x posts.

goodbyemrschips · 28/04/2011 22:13

You could not just stand in front of a class dont be so stupid......[but i have done i am a photographer and have given a few lessons]

You are trained for a couple of years, if your trainers were good it should be fine.

I am off now this in a one day thread no wish to return to it.
