Someone has a slow cooker on stewing lamb Confused

The stick of cooking lamb has permeated the entire floor. Nobody can go into the kitchen without releasing more stink into the offices and we are all going WTF at each other. It is completely vile. I'm sure if you eat meat it's a nice smell, but I do not, nor do a disproportionately high number of my colleagues (right-on public sector workers on SE) and I'm fucking pissed off, actually. At least kipper stink dispersed in 30 mins, I've been here MNing doing paperwork for two hours and it has been on the whole time. The window is open and I'm cold but I still feel sick.

You might think I'm being princessy but when i was pg the smell of cooking meat was instant vom and i really can't bear it.

I have sent an email round asking the culprit not to do it again. AIBU?

Actually, to avoid AIBU by stealth I should confess that I have pretended I don't know whose it is but I do, and she gets on my tits anyway.

Oh! Oh and it's her fucking dinner! For when she goes home!

Are you sure its for her dinner and not for a party after work or some potluck thing where she doesn't have time to go home and pick it up?

LaWeasel · 27/04/2011 15:21

Doesn't really matter does it? She could take something she can grab from supermarket on the way or keep in the fridge in either of those cases...

kreecherlivesupstairs · 27/04/2011 15:24

How odd. Are you sure she doesn't live there secretly? you mentioned two houses, showers, gardens etc. I think I've worked it out.
By the way YADNBU.

madonnawhore · 27/04/2011 15:27

Lol @ slow cooking lamb at work.

YANBU, what this calls for is a good old passive aggressive note stuck to the cooker.

Quenelle · 27/04/2011 15:29

I don't think it's strange to cycle to work and shower when you get there though. I sometimes run at lunchtime and have a shower afterwards.

nocake · 27/04/2011 15:30

Most employers won't allow you to plug in electrical equipment at work that hasn't been safety checked. I suggest you unplug the slow cooker and leave a note on it saying that it has not been checked so must not be used.

olderandwider · 27/04/2011 15:41

Lash up a washing line near her desk, wash some undies and peg them out in a nice row. Make sure they drip very near her keyboard.

If she complains, tell her you didn't have time to do it at home and what a great idea it is using the facilities at the office to make domestic life easier. Say what a genius idea the slow cooker is, and how you're planning to stew up some tripe tomorrow.

YusMilady · 27/04/2011 15:44

'Why on earth not?' to showering at work after you've cycled in, but 'No Way on Earth!' to cooking your tea at work in a slow cooker. That's our taxes paying for that electricty! I'm allowed to say that [public sector emoticon]

YusMilady · 27/04/2011 15:47

Disposable barbecue next to the photocopier? you can cook yourself a sossidge while your waiting for next print job.

YusMilady · 27/04/2011 15:47

you're

plusRoyalisteQuUneEmigree · 27/04/2011 15:47

The safety of electrical equipment should not distract you from a proper response, which is the one you made. Brilliant work, sending it to the boss as well! Some bosses are so crap about putting boundaries in place.

You'll have gained some supporters by standing up to this sort of crap, as well!

KatieMiddleton · 27/04/2011 15:53

That is hilarious what a liberty! What next? Ironing? Doing her washing?!

I am secretly hoping it spils all over the boot of her car on the way home Grin

LucyGoose · 27/04/2011 16:10

Eric - has anyone responded to the email?

hocuspontas · 27/04/2011 16:24

Cooking smells make me heave unless I'm doing the cooking or the eating. YANBU!
Can you clarify if kipper woman and lamb woman are the same?
Anyone here microwaving anything fishy in the staff room at lunchtime has to grovel and apologise in advance! It puts me right off my salad. Grin

EricNorthmansMistress · 27/04/2011 16:31

Nobody had when I left a while ago. Going to have to check my emails when I get home aren't I :) two people did say they agreed with me though. No fishy woman isn't the same. I told fishy woman she was a minger :) but she's a friend so she didn't mind.

How odd!!!!!

HeadfirstForHalos · 27/04/2011 16:46

If this happens again, unplug the damn thing and snip off the plug with a pair of scissors! What a mad bint bringing her slow cooker to work [cconfused]

MorticiaAddams · 27/04/2011 16:48

It's a shame you don't eat meat otherwise you could have dug in and said you assumed it was for everyone as it's in the staff kitchen.

EcoLady · 27/04/2011 16:53

How about keeping a handy bottle of Tabasco in your drawer, to spice things up if she does it again?

ZillionChocolate · 27/04/2011 16:59

What's wrong with a sandwich for lunch? I think it's absolutely bonkers bringing a slow cooker to lunch. Hire a waiter to serve you a Boots meal deal at your desk, see if anyone can out-mad you.

EricNorthmansMistress · 27/04/2011 17:02

I love all of these suggestions! Sadly couldn't bring myself to spike her stew or deface her property!

OP posts:
TragicallyHip · 27/04/2011 17:20

Oh god that is hilarious!! [cgrin]

Can't quite understand why someone would bring a slow cooker into work and stick on a lamb stew [cconfused]

Maybe her electric had been cut off?!

Finallyspring · 27/04/2011 17:22

I had a colleague in a different office who used to come and heat her haddock/tuna/prawns ( she really had a thing about fish ) in the microwave in our office and then go back to her own, leaving our room reeking. It bothered me every time but I never said anything

BoffinMum · 27/04/2011 18:05

This thread is bloody fantastic. Absolutely bloody fantastic. I suggest a hog roast in reception to up the ante.

PinkFondantFancy · 27/04/2011 18:22

Bleugh that is so vile! I like the spiking it with tabasco idea - it'll be the last time she cooks her dinner in the work kitchen!
