I can't say as I've read/heard much about Gwyneth Paltrow since she was in Shakespeare in Love.

AbsDuCroissant · 27/04/2011 17:08

Well, Goop is one of my MANY guilty pleasures, but I got I highly riled at one particular entry which was about "busy mothers" and balancing their times. It started with a run down of an actual busy woman's day, and then ends with Gwynnies day:

  • breakfast with kiddies at 8am before taking them to school
  • Goes and does long work out. Saves time by stretching in the shower
  • Rehearses with band
  • tries on designer outfits
  • bakes cupcakes
here Yes, it sounds like a really tough day Hmm
Insomnia11 · 27/04/2011 17:14

Sounds like my ideal day. Very relaxing.

SequinsAndSparkles · 27/04/2011 17:17
Shock

I love Gwyneth Paltrow, she is my favourite actress a nd I have her book on pre-order. She always seems so lovely in interviews, and seems like a very interesting person. She has a lot to say it seems, and lots of interests which she is clearly passionate about. And she is beautiful Grin

I saw her once in a cafe in Primrose Hill and she said that DD was adorable! grin

So much jealousy on this thread.

SequinsAndSparkles · 27/04/2011 17:17

P.s I loved her in Glee!!

DuplicitousBitch · 27/04/2011 17:19

sequins - her book! on preorder? wait a few months and buy it in the pound shop

wordfactory · 27/04/2011 17:20

Nowt to do with jealousy.

I just think it's essential that women are accountable to other women and don't set themselves up as some sort of paragon to be emulated.

She can still be a fabulous actress and stunningly beautiful and honest.

SequinsAndSparkles · 27/04/2011 17:23

But must every woman say 'God, I find this hard'? Why is it not ok that she is just happy with her life? Yes, it's possibly unrealistic, but that is how it is with celebrities. Unrealistic. She is not there to make other mums feel better about themselves, and she is clearly trying to just embrace motherhood as well as her career, it's a shame that it makes some people feel bad but I'm not sure that's her intention!

Yes on pre-order! I can't wait to read it Smile

FetchezLaVache · 27/04/2011 17:29

Roaring with laughter at "wait a few months and buy it in the pound shop"- so cruel, but so true!

ChristinedePizan · 27/04/2011 17:33

It's because she has absolutely no idea what real life is like that it's absolutely laughable her giving other people tips on how to live.

It's like Kate Middleton writing budgeting tips

GabbyLagoon · 27/04/2011 17:35

GP did a film shoot on my train station. they say shes bril on stage

AbsDuCroissant · 27/04/2011 17:36

Agree with the others. What riled me about the "busy mom" post was that the first woman who is a partner at a venture capital firm, works full time, has two DCs, does charity work etc. actually is a busy mom, whereas Gwynnies seems to think that baking cupcakes, dropping the kids off at school and trying on outfits puts her in the same category.

I don't know her personally, so can't be completely sure of this, but she comes across as someone who lives in a very, VERY privileged bubble but thinks that she's down with the common man when she clearly isn't.

HRHUrsulaBuffay · 27/04/2011 17:54

Yeah the grandma thing is really low down & dirty, apparently the woman caused a family rift before her death because she hated Gwynnie and tried to turn her Mum against her. Ego much love?

weeper · 27/04/2011 18:05

I love reading the 'busy moms' stories from that link. What I want to know is, who is doing the washing up after these early-morning breakfast smoothies? Who is peeling the fruit? IME they are messy and time-consuming and I couldn't bear to either spend ages cleaning that up, either before or after work.

Also LOVED the advice about the weekly blow-dry. If you're working out every day, like she boasts claims, surely your hair is getting sweaty and would need washing every day?

Absolutelyfabulous · 27/04/2011 18:15

Beautiful?

Not before all the plastic surgery she wasn't and I'd be hard pushed to say she was now!

gastonscave · 27/04/2011 19:44

LittleOneMum no offence but I hope you weren't really quoting what the nanny said or the poor women will find herself out of a job and probably up in court for what she has supposely said

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/04/2011 21:34

LittleOneMum report your post. Would hate to get your friend into trouble. Especially as there are several Gwynophiles lurking.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 27/04/2011 21:36

Now Bono is annoying but this goes down as one of the funniest things I have heard him say. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sleb_twaddle/1197797-another-gagging-order?pg=1

Gwyneth?s World
by Lizzie Widdicombe
25/4/11

"....Paltrow sat a few seats away, flanked by Jerry Seinfeld and Jay-Z.
(The next day, she and the rapper posted reciprocal interviews on their Web sites. Paltrow: ?I could sing to you every single word of N.W.A?s ?Fuck tha Police.? ?)
Paltrow announced the menu: roasted red peppers with anchovies, escarole salad, pasta with duck ragout.
Jessica Seinfeld made a toast: ?There is no one who is more comfortable or more capable in the kitchen, naturally, than you,? she said to Paltrow. ?I don?t know how you do it.? She turned to the assembled guests.
?And you are all so lucky to be part of Gwyneth?s world. Because this is the real deal. And she?s invited all of you good people in here. I would never do that.?...."

I just want a break from the woman.
Enough already madam.

I tend to agree with Sequins and Sparkles in some ways-I don't like threads hating some sleb woman for her appearance or success or slim figure or whatever, nor gloating at marriage breakdown.

But GP annoyed me, as I said higher up the thread, for what appeared to be woeful ignorance of the lot of most women (I mean, even the professional middle classes, let alone women on low incomes) and a rather smug willingness to judge them nevertheless. We hardly need GP to do that when we've already got the Daily Mail.

Had to go change my tena lady after reading that guardian piece !
