To think Jeremy Kyle is one of the most awful show's on British TV and should be taken off air?

I was just having some lunch and there was nothing on. I knew I wasn't a big fan of the show already, evident from the fact that I have not watched an episode in years. But I thought, it might not be as bad as I remember and decided to give it a watch.

So I noticed a feeling of complete dumbing down while watching it and it was just abhorrent. Yes it inspired feelings of disgust, loathing and general repugnance in me.

I am shocked that people actually watch this show. And Kyle himself spends the whole time shouting at his guests, talking over them and belittling them at every opportunity. I hardly think he morally has a right to do this considering his own personal history.

I am sure others have started threads about Jeremy Kyle in the past but I had to vent at how loathsome I found it. Obviously each to their own, but I simply cannot imagine anyone watching this and finding it entertaining. But then I suppose the fact that it has been on air so many years means that someone out there is Sad

Lunch at 9.30am?! Shock

worraliberty · 26/04/2011 15:24

I can't stand the stupid shouty little twat and always turn over to Matthew Wright.

But I still don't think it should be taken off air because obviously some people like to watch it.

Sirzy · 26/04/2011 15:24

Yanbu I refuse to have it on tv here

jeckadeck · 26/04/2011 15:24

I mean yes he is odious and the show is exploitative but taking it off the air is a tad heavy handed, no? millions of people do like it and if you find it that offensive just switch the bloody thing over. I can't understand why people kneejerk to the view that things should be banned because they don't like them.

unsurevalentine · 26/04/2011 15:24

and YANBU - I think doing DNA test results on live TV should be viewed as child abuse, and should be illegal.

SueSylvesterforPM · 26/04/2011 15:25

I used to watch it as a teen wagging off school reminices I spent most of the episodes howling.

LDNmummy · 26/04/2011 15:27

I was wathing a lunchtime repeat unsure Grin

I see where you are coming from jeck but I found it to be very exploitative of its guests too and think it probably does more harm for them than good.

It's hilarious! I like to watch it if I am
ill in bed. The man himself is a vile, sanctimonious little cockend but on the whole, the programme is funny.

LDNmummy · 26/04/2011 15:28

Watching that is, not wathing.

oohlaalaa · 26/04/2011 15:30

YANBU - only watched it the once, or maybe twice Blush, and was appalled.

unsurevalentine · 26/04/2011 15:31

They show it twice in one day? Hmm

jeckadeck · 26/04/2011 15:34

LDNMummy I agree that its pretty exploitative and most of the people on it are vulnerable. But no-one forces these people into going onto the show. And if people are daft enough to think parading their problems on daytime TV is going to make them famous, or whatever, then maybe they might actually learn something from it. Its no more exploitative than the Sun newspaper or a host of other media. If you ban Jeremy Kyle where would you draw the line?

millie30 · 26/04/2011 15:40

YANBU. He is sometimes downright dangerous with his actions and "advice." Goading a violent and jealous partner by flirting with his girlfriend, then saying "Is this not making you angry, how come you can control your temper now then?" No doubt he is reserving his outbursts for the poor woman who has to go home with him, now that he's ordered him to get off his stage.

Or screaming at an alcoholic to "just stop drinking then!" Of course it's that easy and humiliating a vulnerable person, possibly with underlying mental health issues to the cheers of the baying mob (audience) is totally appropriate.

My personal low point was the rape victim who underwent a lie detector test to prove she hadn't accused the wrong person of attacking her. A lie detector that isn't accurate enough to be permitted in a court of law, but is seemingly accurate enough for him to sneer that she was lying whilst the audience booed and the woman fled the stage in tears.

chocadoodle · 26/04/2011 15:40

YANBU he really is the most irritating twat on tv. That's why I don't watch it.

One of my friend's loves it though, she can put up with his excrutiatingly massive ego and finds the whole thing quite entertaining Sad

If the license fee was paying for it I would agree with you and say it should be taken off air. But, I'm not paying for it and I don't have to watch it, so I don't.

marmaladetwatkins · 26/04/2011 15:42

I do agree with Millie about his shoddy advice. He shouts and screams at drug addicts, which you shouldn't ever do...

ClarenceChudbukitThe3rd · 26/04/2011 15:42

Leave the man alone
The childrens special that was on a while ago was very moving and just showed you how warm and careing he is

Chil1234 · 26/04/2011 15:43

YANBU... and I'd like to think that viewing figures one day slump low enough for the network to consign it to the bin, but I don't think it's going to happen soon. To me Kyle is to Springer what 'home-made porno snaps' is to 'Playboy'.... second-rate quality and with no redeeming glamour whatsoever.

MixedClassBaby · 26/04/2011 15:43

It's bloody awful but I can't tear myself away sometimes. My DM and I sometimes play JK Bingo when we watch it together. We choose a number of phrases that are likely to come up e.g.

  1. put something on the end of it
  2. who rang the show?
  3. the CRUCIAL DNA test results
  4. GENIUS Graham
  5. I'm 1000 per cent sure
  6. you're a waste of space!
  7. let's unravel this story

etc etc and see who gets 'house' first.

Gotta love maternity leave!

NulliusInVerba · 26/04/2011 15:43

Obviously, YANBU.

I will be totally amazed if you find one person who thinks YABU.

He is the prickiest of all pricks in prick land.

cuteboots · 26/04/2011 15:45

No one forces these people to go on live tv and carry out dna tests. Ive only watched it once whilst doing housework and I cannot believe that people would really go on live tv and admit they arent sure who the father of their child is??!! Random!!!

ginger55 · 26/04/2011 15:46

I use to watch the show - but now I'm far too busy looking after my sister who I married last year, and her three children who she says aren't mine but are by an alien called Ron who's an alcoholic and who's having an affair with an attractive cleaner called Dyson..

marmaladetwatkins · 26/04/2011 15:49

Am guffawing at Mixedclass's bingo! I do that too! Blush
