To think Jeremy Kyle is one of the most awful show's on British TV and should be taken off air?

I was just having some lunch and there was nothing on. I knew I wasn't a big fan of the show already, evident from the fact that I have not watched an episode in years. But I thought, it might not be as bad as I remember and decided to give it a watch.

So I noticed a feeling of complete dumbing down while watching it and it was just abhorrent. Yes it inspired feelings of disgust, loathing and general repugnance in me.

I am shocked that people actually watch this show. And Kyle himself spends the whole time shouting at his guests, talking over them and belittling them at every opportunity. I hardly think he morally has a right to do this considering his own personal history.

I am sure others have started threads about Jeremy Kyle in the past but I had to vent at how loathsome I found it. Obviously each to their own, but I simply cannot imagine anyone watching this and finding it entertaining. But then I suppose the fact that it has been on air so many years means that someone out there is Sad

It's my guilty pleasure Blush

Someone should pretend to the researchers that they are genuine JK candidates with a story and then act immaculately on the show and flame JK for being a twat.

millie30 · 26/04/2011 15:55

Microfight, I so want to do this! I pray for someone articulate and intelligent to put him in his place, he seems to get away with his behaviour purely because most of his guests are either vulnerable or less bright than him.

LDNmummy · 26/04/2011 15:56

Unfortunately so unsure, it could have been a repeat of an old one though or on one of those extra channels you get with digital TV.

I do see your point jeck, especially as someone who believes in free speech and free media. I don't know if this makes sense but I suppose I feel like it dumbs people down and is based on a structure of abusing people who may lack the skills to fit into society as part of the 'morally acceptable norm' IYSWIM.

I suppose I could outline my opinion as a view on free media being great as long as it is based around being informative, entertaining or both, but not great if it is based around exploitative methods of entertainment. If that makes sense lol! Hard to explain.

YANBU!!

The only time I've had the misfortune to see this programme is at my mums house. He does my head in and I get an over whelming urge to put my fist right through is stupid smarmy, arrogant face. He is a complete tosser and he speaks to people like animals. I'm pretty sure his past isn't snow white so he should get off his pedestal and stop being a complete and utter knob!

LDNmummy · 26/04/2011 15:57

Lmao at microfight's idea.

Seems that a lot of people on this thread have 'only seen it once'. I reckon you should all have a CRUCIAL lie detector test Grin

Chil1234 · 26/04/2011 15:59

Last time I saw one it was an 'am I the father' episode and they showed a picture of the ugliest baby you've ever seen. Big ears, piggy little eyes, eyebrows meeting in the middle. Like a Picasso in a sleepsuit. On walks potential father and he looked exactly the same. Could have saved the DNA test money there, I thought.

marmaladetwatkins · 26/04/2011 16:00

His past is far from snow white. He is a (former) gambling addict and adulterer and I have heard from meedja chums that he doesn't see his kids from his first marriage as often as he would have us believe...

kisschase · 26/04/2011 16:00

YANBU
I am totally against violence, but I would love to punch the smarmy little git in the mouth. (And then follow that with a swift kick in the nuts, before I run off!!)

microfight · 26/04/2011 16:01

We could get a load of MN'ers to fill the audience and Boo and tut at JK

Thingumy · 26/04/2011 16:01

You can't help but watch Shock..

Thingumy · 26/04/2011 16:02

this

SleepyCaz · 26/04/2011 16:08

He's an utter wanker, but the people on his show are no better. All round vileness

But YABU about it being taken off air. Some people must watch it, so I suppose they like it.

Ooopsadaisy · 26/04/2011 16:19

Sorry - I love it.

It makes me just love my life.

Loving JK Bingo. I will be playing that next time I have a day off!

MarioandLuigi · 26/04/2011 16:22

I like how an ex- gamblers show is sponsored by Bingo

QuickLookBusy · 27/04/2011 08:58

I used to make let my 2 DDs watch it when they were about 14.
Thought it was a great lesson in how not to live your life.

I can't believe how ITV are worrying about Daybreak affecting their schedule (poor ratings) whilst being perfectly happy to broadcast this shit.

I would love it if in years to come, those babies who've had their parentage discussed in intimate detail sue the shit out of everybody connected to the show on the basis of a breach of their right to privacy.

hollyoaks · 27/04/2011 09:15

MixedClassBaby - that makes a good drinking game too :o

One of the parents at dds pre-school have been on for DNA tests, they were very proud of their certificates. Hmm

The reason people go on is for the free dna test often. They cost 500 otherwise.

I only know this because one woman who went on got given this money by ss but spent it on herself. Poor dd was an adult as well.

Interesting article in last Saturday's Guardian about people who have appeared on the JK Show and their experience Here
