To think that M&S should not try to dictate

the way I hang my loo roll! I am an 'under' hanger and always have been. I like the loo roll to hang neatly flush to the wall and not hang 'over', which I think looks untidy and clumsy. I should perhaps add that both DM and MIL were privately educated, are solidly middle class and they are 'under' hangers also. I went to the local all girls comp however...

Today I bought loo roll in M&S. It was patterned but I paid little attention as they had no plain white left. This evening I put the first roll on the holder to find that it has an 'under the sea' theme and that all the fishies are upside down when I hang it my way.

Upside down they will stay! I doubt DP or DS will notice but I do...... How very dare they!

YABU - under hanging is just WRONG!!!!

Happymm · 23/04/2011 20:50

That's because you're wrong and you hang it the wrong way! :o

RustyBear · 23/04/2011 20:50

It just proves that over the top is the right way...

moonstorm · 23/04/2011 20:50

What they said [bugrin]

ItsallabouttheBunnyBunnyBunny · 23/04/2011 20:51

YABVVU
Loo roll should always hang over not under.
M & S are not dictating, simply doing what is right.
[bugrin]

DaisyLovesMetronidazole · 23/04/2011 20:51

YANBU.

Happymm · 23/04/2011 20:52

And obviously it doesn't matter where you go to school-you're still wrong!:o

ObscureReference · 23/04/2011 20:53

If you hang it under, the germs would get on the wall from your hand rubbing against it to grab the paper and the wall could get mucky....

Well that what my Mum said, but I always wondered what she was doing with her hands before she even wiped!!!

GwendolineMaryLacey · 23/04/2011 20:57

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Proof that the weirdos who hang against the wall (are you listening DH?) are just wrong

Portoeufino · 23/04/2011 20:57

I have to add my point of view as my toilet paper is not attached to the wall in sense, as we are renting and have to fill any holes. So we have a "pole" from Ikea that hold 4 rolls and they are all vertical. So if anyone gives a shit, so to speak, the fishes etc would always be wrong. YABU to not have enough to worry about Grin

BanalChelping · 23/04/2011 20:58

Of course it hangs over, then you can make the end into a little point.

FriedSpamButty · 23/04/2011 20:59

But, but, but WHY??????

OP posts:
Choufleur · 23/04/2011 20:59

YABU. you're wrong. M&S cannot be wrong.

Choufleur · 23/04/2011 20:59

So that it's easier to grab

Firawla · 23/04/2011 21:00

OP i agree with you that under looks neater and better imo, so yanbu

YusMilady · 23/04/2011 21:00

YABU for buying patterned bumwad, which is frightfully infra dig. All the best homes have Izal.

purpleknittingmum · 23/04/2011 21:01

I am an over hanger! Always change it if OH puts it under!

What has class got to do with it? Weird.
I read somewhere that men are likely to put it on (if they change the roll at all) so the new bit is next to the wall, and women tend to do it the M & S way.

FriedSpamButty · 23/04/2011 21:06

Oh Firawla I thank you! It appears we are in a minority. I hate to see 'overang'. It is just so.... industrial! I like things to be tidy and neat. Loo paper flush to the wall is tidy and neat.

And germs on the wall? Please! My bathroom walls are wiped daily.

FriedSpamButty · 23/04/2011 21:10

Thought I'd said, I only bought patterned poo paper cos the white quilted stuff had sold out. However, plain and patterned were the same price. I don't normally buy patterned poo paper hence the AIMBU.

I am an under hanger. After an incident several years ago when I came home from work to discover my then kittens had unravelled a whole roll after jumping at it while chasing something. Think Andrex puppy. [buangry]

Meow75 · 23/04/2011 21:14

FSB, your walls might be wiped daily, but can you guarantee that for everywhere. The more the loo roll stays away from the wall the better.

Think about it - we don't just wash our hands once a day, do we? Why is that? Because all sorts of microbes are introduced throughout the day, but it is convenient to wash one's hands repeatedly. I don't think anyone is suggesting that you wash down your bathroom walls before anyone ever visits the loo, but a piece of loo paper is statistically less likely to come into contact with live microbes if it's not being pressed up against the wall.

IMO, but I am a Biologist with some learning around microbiology, etc.

FriedSpamButty · 23/04/2011 21:16

As much as I love M&S and we have a shared history of 18th and 19th century Leeds we must disagree on the hanging of poo paper. I am under, they are over. I know I am right. Think neat, tidy and discreet.

GandTiceandaslice · 23/04/2011 21:16

YOU FREAK!
You hang it over!
M&S are right! Grin
