it has invaded my tv because i am too lazy to reach the remote and switch over

Who in their right mind wastes their money on this utter shite?

I can actuall visualise the sort of person. It is not a flattering image.

My dd begged for a Nails Inc set for Christmas. She is 7 and has every girly, feminine gene that I fail to possess.

GapsAGoodUn · 22/04/2011 02:39

But, yes, the fashion.

Christ it's terrible. All shiny jersey (bleuch).

cantspel · 22/04/2011 02:47

i dont do girly and dont even own a skirt but i do like nice nails.

Some of these clothes look awful on the hanger but on the model they look quite nice

I think it helps if you are tall and thin both of which i am not.

Mandy2003 · 22/04/2011 10:10

Anyone remember when Nadds hair remover first came out? It was available on QVC and the model for it was - my postman! Yes, laying their on a beautician's couch having his leg epilated! Stunning [bugrin]

WassaAxolotlEgg · 22/04/2011 10:14

My mother buys things from there. And goes on and on about how I should, too. And oooooon.

southeastastra · 22/04/2011 10:16

i have bought nails inc and smashbox stuff too (what happened to models prefer - i loved her demos Grin)

so i guess i buy the shite - but it's nice shite so there

LaurieFairyCake · 22/04/2011 10:23

I link to QVC all the time on here - their Decleor/Gatineau/Liz Earle stuff when it's Todays Special Value is the cheapest around

TOMORROW (Saturday) is a Decleor 'Todays Special Value' - its 6 months worth of their Aromessence serum which you wear under moisturiser - it's fabuloooooous

hocuspontas · 22/04/2011 10:33

Once you add on p&p the prices are horrendous. I sometimes get sucked into watching Dawn Bibby doing her crafting. Never buy anything but the false enthusiasm is somehow hypnotic... and then I realise I have wasted a whole hour hoping I could think of a reason to buy 200 glue dots. Grin

Ooh and what about that crazy woman with the bag of glitter fairy dust that she blows all over the place?Grin

nulliusxinxverbax · 22/04/2011 11:10

The saddest is the people who call up and speak to the presenters like they are freinds and family......And then the presenter desperatly searching brain when they say "hiya, you remeber me dont you?? hows the kids??"

Some stuff is good though!!! But you have to be careful....they suck you in, and then make it simpler and simpler for you to order, before you know it you just press one button and youve spent 3 grand!!!

Have any of you seen that pompoos guy?? honestly you have to watch. So disturbing yet hilarious at the same time. He has for some reason painted on his face, hair and eyebrows, and flirts outrageously with the models even though he is clearly gay. The clothes he sells are, interesting.

nulliusxinxverbax · 22/04/2011 11:13

southeastastra "Models prefere" was changed to YBF (your best friend) which was a bit cheaper, then it kinda dissapeared altogether, not sure if she was ill or something.....

Prunnhilda · 22/04/2011 11:20

My mum buys it.
She gets mineral make up (gives it to me, despite me being paler than a pale thing, so it makes me look - gasp - spray-tanned)

bed linen (she now asks me what thread count mine is - I DO NOT CARE that is a GIMMICK you arse)

scrapbooking stuff (jeez-o)

I am sure she buys other things too, and doesn't tell me (thankfully).

She also buys lower-priced versions of cosmetics and resells them on E-bay.

We are very different, me and my mum.

Alambil · 22/04/2011 11:22

I buy yankee candles off there sometimes as they're cheaper than in town... that's as far as my association with the company goes!

Whatevs · 22/04/2011 11:27

My MIL.

She has cupboards full of 'miracle' face creams, 'real' cubic zirconia jewellery (wow!) and celebrity endorsed, extortionately priced kitchen appliances she has never used.

interregnum · 22/04/2011 11:41

Threadcount is not a gimmick, the more threads per inch the better the quality which you can literally feel when comparing the textures.

cyb · 22/04/2011 11:48

OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVE Qvc

I love laughing at the guests like Dennis Basso with his BOOMING barritone and huge fur coats

I Hate Alison Youngs voice but find the beauty hours soothing and have ordered LOTS of good skin care/make up cheaper esp Decleor

Loads of the clothes are crap but you shoudl try IDEAL WORLD shopping channel for the real tat

Oh and Cornsilk loves QVC too

cyb · 22/04/2011 11:49

Yes Ybf make up has stopped being sold on QVC I dont think it was 'high end' enough for them

Their eye brow pencil is the best i've ever used though, have to buy it from The States now

I love Mally Make up

nulliusxinxverbax · 22/04/2011 11:54

Ever noticed how Alison Young has to use the word "Actually" in every sentence when it is not needed?

"so then, this is the actual elemis face cream, containing actual padina pavonica, from the actual sea, so.....have you actually used this? QVC has an actual 30 day money back guarantee whereby, if you actually dont like it, you can send it back for an actual refund, actually"

That was not an exaggeration at all.

Prunnhilda · 22/04/2011 11:57

Oh I know that the thread count makes it feel different, but it is a marketing gimmick imported from the US.
We managed for at least 3 decades of my life, and presumably some before that, not needing to know the thread count of a bed sheet - just if it felt nice or not.

Lara2 · 22/04/2011 12:06

I love QVC too!!! My guilty secret!! I've watched it on and off since I was on maternity leave with DS1 18 years ago. In my defense, there wasn't much on Sky or cable in those days!!!

It is so gob smacking sometimes - have got Kipling bags on now and am dying laughing at the presenter trying to sound amazed and enthuisatic! WTF!!! Match your bag to your nail polish?????!!!!! [bugrin]

gillybean2 · 22/04/2011 12:13

I bought a kipling purse from QVC. But only because I have been searching for years for a non leather purse and I got suckered in.
It has hardly any card slots, can't fit many coins in it even without it looking lumpy and is obviously aimed at kids (isn't the whole range of kipling?) who have no cards or money to put in their purses. Or maybe you don't need to roon afte rpaying the inflated prices! ;)

They're pretending to be designer with the monkeys (and my purse didn't come with a monkey), or maybe it's a distraction.

I saw a thread a while ago from a mum whose dd was raving on about the designer kipling bag her SM had got her. I told her not to worry, it wasn't anything special if it was anything like my purse and if her SM thought that was designer she was off her head wrong!

gillybean2 · 22/04/2011 12:17

LaurieFairyCake does that mean I would need to wear moisturiser to buy that stuff? I guess if I had the money for such un-ncessary luxuries and indulgences I wouldn't feel bad wasting it on such stuff.

Yes the purse was expensive. But it had 3 easy payments and my current purse was falling apart having been used daily since I bought it over 20 years before. So £20 (plus p&p) for a purse that should last another 20 years didn't seem too excessive. PLus Santa actually brought it for me so I actually got a present this year

wildfig · 22/04/2011 12:21

I leave it on for the dogs to watch to distract my dogs while I'm out. I live in fear of a lorry arriving with forty-five Bob Mackie bedazzled t-shirts, a family pack of meat pies, and a Magic Pet Mop while they slobber excitedly at Dennis Basso.

Disclaimer: I have actually bought some Bobbi Brown kits from there, but when you add on the insane P&P it looks much less of a bargain, and if you order from the website, they charge you P&P for each individual item.

sharbie · 22/04/2011 12:22

love qvc v v addictive though - have ordered a ring before and it was rubbish though so now just watch and laugh.
