on the bus yesterday. So glad I don't live in London - this was only DS's second ever bus journey. He's 21 months, I'm 8 months preg.

So lugged the pushchair on, and went to the area you park them in. Bus was virtually empty, but there were two semi-rotund old ladies sitting on the flip up seats. I politely asked them "excuse me, do those seats flip up so that I can put the pushchair there?". They both said "nooo, dearie". (old means around 65/70 - not doddery 80s in this case)

So everyone else getting on had to squeeze past me, bump, pushchair and a poor guide dog sitting opposite, whose owner was getting very unsettled. Freaking annoying. I got off two stops up the hill, as did the old ladies, at which point the seats flipped up behind them. I shouldn't have, but said to one of them "those seats DO flip up", and she said "I know!". Basically, I asked her why she hadn't moved, and she said the space was for wheelchairs and elderly people as well as pushchairs. I pointed out there were other seats for elderly people too, but nowhere else for a pushchair, and she said I was getting shirty. I just walked off.

It was more amusing than anything, but seriously, can't some people remember what it was like to be pregnant/ have a toddler?

MrSpoc - trolley? Was that a Freudian slip?

Good point though - did the ladies have shopping trolleys OP? I often sit/stand near the push/wheelchair area with my trolley to keep it out of the aisle

Bucharest · 20/04/2011 16:24

Who's got a trolley? Trolleys are divilobjects and anyone with one (especially a tartan one) should be thrown off any form of public transport and made to walk publicly through town. T'is worse than breastfeeding on public transport IMO.

Now I've really got full house.

MrSpoc · 20/04/2011 16:25

why would it be a freudian slip? Have i missed something? Im from Manchester and a troller is basicly a stroller buggy. Or did i spell it worng ????

FlamingJamie · 20/04/2011 16:25

Bucharest - Shock. My trolley is fab and everyone I know wants one.

If you have a trolley, then that is a bust you are hoiking, not a bosom.
Definitely.
FlamingJamie · 20/04/2011 16:27

MrSpoc - a trolley is a buggy in Manchester. Well I never knew that!

PS you spelled worng wrong Grin

MrSpoc · 20/04/2011 16:30

I realised and thought you may think I did it on purpose. Never mind I was caught out. Ha ha never mind Grin

FlamingJamie · 20/04/2011 16:32

MrSpoc · 20/04/2011 16:33

MadamDeathstare - wow never knew that. We would all be buggered if we went shopping there looking for a trolley. Imagine loads of mad English People walking round isles with a buggy throwing tins of beans ontop of a baby. Oohps.

MrSpoc · 20/04/2011 16:34

FlamingJamie - Damn Ill learn. Eventually.

nickelbaalamb · 20/04/2011 16:35

Bucharest - in Nottingham, all the buses that have the flip up seats for priority use, also have seats very close to them that are for priority use, and don't have flip up seats. Usually right next to them.

Those "ladies" were being incredibly mean to the OP.

and i'm pretty sure they could have managed an extra movement to the next lot of entitled seats (only working on assumption that buses would be laid out same where OP lives as in Nottm), especially as she said the bus wasn't moving. otherwise they would have said why. that they didn't means that they were being bitchy for the sake of it.
If any fucker tries that with me when I'm 8 months gone, they'll get more than a mouthful. Angry

FlamingJamie · 20/04/2011 16:36

or even "We would all be buggied"

MrSpoc · 20/04/2011 16:37

nickelbaalamb - I thought anyfucker had left? Is she in Nottingham now riding on buses.

Bucharest · 20/04/2011 16:37

whomovedmychocolate · 20/04/2011 16:37

I'll bet OP paid for her fare and the OLBs got on with their twirly passes Wink

MrSpoc · 20/04/2011 16:38

Bloody hell I would hate to be buggied Smile

Bucharest · 20/04/2011 16:38

WMMC- read the thread, OP didn't pay at all Shock

FlamingJamie · 20/04/2011 16:38

nickelbaalamb - I'm on the fence here. I'm inclined to think they were being mean/lazy. OTOH, IME, many elderly people are inclined to not be as assertive and straightforward as they should, because they don't want to get into an confrontation or fear being called an old bitch.

nickelbaalamb · 20/04/2011 16:38

and can we please get some adverbs in this thread???

"wrongly"
and
"accurately"
how you spell, not what you spell!

Wink
