To get 3 year old DS to use sanpro

BanalChelping · 20/04/2011 13:52

Both DSs have the wildshites. DS2 not such a problem because he's still in nappies but DS1, who is potty trained (though still in nappies at night) is following through and leaving skids in his pants. So DH says I should just put DS1 back in nappies until he's better; I think that's a step in the wrong direction and that we risk him wanting to go back to nappies full time. My cunning solution is to use a sanitary pad to contain the sharts. DH thinks I am nuts. Mumsnet jury, am i nuts or a genius?

lol...

I'm sorry that your lo are ill. Provided that your ds1 is happy then I can't see the problem.

controlpantsandgladrags · 20/04/2011 14:10

Sanpro fine as long as DS is happy with it. He may not find them too comfortable though as they are obviously designed for adult sized women Smile

Chil1234 · 20/04/2011 14:19

You're tackling the wrong end.... improve the kid's diet and chances are that he won't have the problem.

AitchTwoOh · 20/04/2011 14:21

not necessarily, chil, there is a bug going round here at the mo that makes a gallus fart a very dangerous proposition.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 20/04/2011 14:22

Eh ? What's diet got to do with having the wildshites ?? Confused

shesparkles · 20/04/2011 14:22

Would pullups maybe be a better option for ds1 just now, rather than nappies? That way you're still getting the "pants" idea

Chil, my reading of it is that the OP's kids may have some kind of short lived tummy bug or something, not that there's a dietary problem

BanalChelping · 20/04/2011 14:23

Thank you Chill. How exactly should I change his diet to stop him from getting tummy bugs? If I follow your advice will it also work for coughs, colds and conjunctivitis?

OP posts:
worraliberty · 20/04/2011 14:26

How long are you expecting him to have this tummy bug? None of my 3 ever had them for more than 48hrs at the most. Any more than that and I've have him to the Dr for some Dyrolite.

Are you keeping him off of milk and other dairy products for now?

Chil1234 · 20/04/2011 14:32

If the child's got the squits then withhold food until it has cleared up. Stick to plain fluids. All you're doing is feeding the virus at the moment.

BanalChelping · 20/04/2011 14:39

I'm not witholding food - they are on the BRAT diet until they get better.

Shesparkles I had thought about pull-ups but the village shop doesn't sell them so I'd be looking at a 30 mile round trip, which would be asking for trouble (and a very smelly car Grin) right now.

No advice to add, but just had to come and applaud the word 'wildshites' - I haven't ever heard that one before, but will definitely be using it from now on! Grin Round the SDTG house, it's called MDSB (multi-directional splatter bottie).

Hope your dses get better soon, Banal.

bonkers20 · 20/04/2011 15:12

I'd just accept that you'll be buying some new pants next week. How about putting a couple of pairs on him. That's got to be more comfortable that sanpro.

vintageteacups · 20/04/2011 15:15

I would simply put him back in nappies for now, or at least until you manage to get some pull ups - can your DH grab some on the way back from work?

Just say to him, it's easier than having to wash his pants after poo gets on them and that he won't need to wear them once the tummy bug has gone.

TheLemur · 20/04/2011 15:44

What's the BRAT diet?

GloriaSmut · 20/04/2011 16:19

I wouldn't put him back in nappies, it's a truly retrograde step and will probably confuse him. Stick two pairs of pants on him and, if you can't bear handling skiddy ones on the route between arse and washing machine then chuck the pants away.

colditz · 20/04/2011 16:21

Stick the skiddy pants in a bucket of nappysan. It won't hurt them and will make sure they come up clean.

agedknees · 20/04/2011 16:25

Vanish spray gets rid of skids.

Insomnia11 · 20/04/2011 16:25

Bananas Rice Apples Toast

holderness · 20/04/2011 16:26

Well I think your sanpro idea will work .

Hopefully you mean the discrete press-on variety and not the fluffy pillows of yore though? Hmm

Cant see a relatively thin extra layer in his pants making a great deal of difference to your DS and it would make a big difference to you .

OTheHugeManatee · 20/04/2011 16:34

Nothing to add, but Grin at 'wildshites'.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 20/04/2011 16:38

Oh we say 'wildshites' in this house.

I will NEVER forget dd aged about 5 bellowing from a packed loo in a strained voice, MMmmmmmmmmmmmUuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmm, i've got the wildshites, help me wipe my buuuuummmmmmmmm Blush

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/04/2011 16:42

LOL @ wildshites

I would put him back in nappies as well. DD has been out of nappies for about 7 months, very reliable and grown up but is happy to wear them for a set amount of time, i.e. long car journeys if she knows the reason why.

Although, thinking about it, if it's just skiddies that are the problem then I'd leave him to it and buy new pants. If he's actually sharting then it's back into nappies in a flash!

mitochondria · 20/04/2011 17:35

I put one of mine in nappies when he was 3 and had the shits, although he had been potty trained for over a year. He understood it was just to contain the bumgravy.

Would a sanitary pad work? Is it designed for that sort of stuff?

Lovecat · 20/04/2011 17:38

I don't think a sanitary towel would work - they're for liquid, not shite and even if it's 'wildshite' (great phrase), it would still just 'sit' on it. Which would be even more disgusting.

Hope he's better soon. :)

scottishmummy · 20/04/2011 17:49

sanitary pad not a solution at all.that will end in tears (yours as you clean liquid shit)

put a pull up on if you need to catch the squits, shouldn't set back nappy training
