that I don't like that my nursery strip my child if she's not in nursery uniform?

A new policy has been introduced.

If children (3 and 4 year olds) at my nursery are not sent wearing their nursery polo shirts (regardless of the weather), they are stripped by the carers, and put into uniform polo shirts. Parents get to keep said shirts, but are charged the cost of the uniform on each occurrence.

What do people think about this? I really want to canvass opinion on this before I speak to the nursery head.

Thanks.
MF

I would like to make a stand, but my daughter is happy there and will only be there for another 4 months.

My son will be there for another two years.

To coin a phrase:

What the actual JEFF?

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 19/04/2011 21:25

It's a private nursery..you knew there was a uniform when ou enrolled presumably. Just put a polo on her....not hard.

upahill · 19/04/2011 21:26

If I was happy with everything else at the nursery I would buy the uniform tbh and get on with it tbh.

If you buy two shirts and a jumper that's £26 for 4 months wear which I dont think is so bad really as she will be wearing it every term day.

If you don't like the rules find somewhere else for 4 months and change.

I would have no bother conforming on this.

musicfan · 19/04/2011 21:26

There was not a uniform policy when we enrolled. I disagree with uniforms for 3 year olds, particularly when the weather is this hot, and when they get so dirty so regularly in the course of play, and when they will only be used for 4 months.

xposted with you and have seen you have posted about your son.

Same if you don't like the idea find somewhere else, it's not compulsory to send your children there.

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 19/04/2011 21:28

A polo shirt is not hot! You can take her out of course...but then you would need to enroll her in a new place for 4 months.

Seems silly for £8.50

musicfan · 19/04/2011 21:28

She will need at least four shirts and four jumpers, which is £70 for 4 months, although for me, cost is only part of the issue.

YABU - This is the policy - have you seen some of the outfits children get sent into nursery wearing, some totally impractical?

You have 2 choices -

  1. Send her wearing the correct uniform or allow her to wear it if you won't/don't

  2. Go to a different nursery

Meglet · 19/04/2011 21:29

You'll need about 6 polo shirts if your DC is anything like mine. They often get wet / painty on hot days and have to be changed.

At least I can put my DC's in second hand or hand-me-downs for nusery days.

Grabaspoon · 19/04/2011 21:29

She will need 2 t-shirts and 2 jumpers max.

TattyDevine · 19/04/2011 21:30

Right, you do what I said in my previous post. You send her in whatever. They take it off, put on a polo. You collect her, take the polo off, hand it back with good grace, put back the top you dressed her in that morning (clean - bonus - no washing!) and they receive their polo back, wash it, iron it and put it on her the next day, only to do the same again.

If they are being stubborn and changing your daughter's clothing, you can do the same. Take nothing out the building. Carry on as if.

Sorted.

princessparty · 19/04/2011 21:30

Why will she need so many-you could surely mange with a couple of sets or even just one for what is really only a few weeks til she leaves
YANBU and it's obviously a money making thing.

musicfan · 19/04/2011 21:31

Grabaspoon, you are incorrect. She has been there two days and both days she has come home with paint on her top.

Really think it's daft to 'make a stand' - it's not some terrible injustice just a naffo policy. I'd let it go.

Bringonthegoat · 19/04/2011 21:33

If you do want to make a fuss, Tatty's idea is fab and no hassle for you. also makes a mockery of their changing policy.

upahill · 19/04/2011 21:33

4 shirts and 4 jumpers - you are mad!!

MerylStrop · 19/04/2011 21:34

it's fucking outrageous

their priorities must be almightily skewed.

spring her from that crazy joint!

musicfan · 19/04/2011 21:34

TattyDevine, I like that idea.

The use of the word "strip" is bizarre. It sounds as if you are objecting to them undressing your child rather than to the insane uniform rule! Which is it that you;'re complaining about?

musicfan · 19/04/2011 21:35

Upahill, if she is wearing her top every day for four days, she will need a top a day. If she is wearing her jumper every day for four days, she will need four jumpers.

OP posts:
musicfan · 19/04/2011 21:36

Seeker, I object to them undressing my child without just cause.

OP posts:
TiggyD · 19/04/2011 21:36

Buy a t shirt, ideally a white one, then stain it with grass and beetroot juice etc. Wash it and send your child to nursery in it.

They sound mental and possibly evil. [evil]

sausagerolemodel · 19/04/2011 21:37

I really don't think any under fives should be "uniformed" - let toddlers be toddlers.

SkinittingFluffyBunnyBonnets · 19/04/2011 21:37

I cannot see why she needs 4 of anything either! Mine has 1 jumper...I wash it nightly if I have to and she has 3 tops.

(Liking Meryl's 1950s dime store hood talk)

Spring her from that crazy joint man! Those cats aint hep! Grin
