For fecks sake be closed on both.

I just am saddened by the fact that they're that bothered about making money that they will open on the most important day of the christian Calender.

Sad

I have a salon and 7 staff to pay, small business,we will shut on good Friday, but closing on the royal wedding day on our busiest day of the week would be financially disastorous.why should I pay a thousand pounds because they are getting married?I did close the salon when I got married however and I voted all the staff.we will give staff an extra day off though.

scattermummy · 21/04/2011 08:03

Invited not voted,bloody iPad!

AlpinePony · 21/04/2011 08:07

YABU.

Small businesses open when they want to, not when you want to. But please contact the AIBU poster from Tuesday who was held up in traffic whilst driving to work and the one from Mon/Tues who was woken up at 9am! Perhaps you could set up a support group.

Can anyone explain why Easter Monday is the most important day in the Christian calendar? I thought He rose on a Sunday. Did He do anything important on the Monday that my church has completely missed?

MikeOxstiff · 21/04/2011 08:27

More fool you lot for working bankholidays and the weekends. Life is more than work. Why do people need entertaining 7 days a week
Jesus was put to death on the first day (Friday and on the 3rd day sunday) was the resurrection

onagar · 21/04/2011 08:43

Matthew 12:40: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday n....err hang on... :o

hocuspontas · 21/04/2011 09:15

Onager - you may be onto something there!

Sunday trading laws in Scotland are ridiculous.
If I go to the supermarket they close the alchohol aisles till 12.30, so If I want a bottle of wine before then I can't get it, though I can get everything else.
What is the point?

Katiepoes · 21/04/2011 11:54

Easter Monday is a hugely important occasion in Holland. Everyone, and I mean everyone goes to furniture superstores and garden centers.

I think Jesus would have approved. He was a carpenter after all.

Now let's talk about that fact that tomorrow in Ireland grown men and women will be unable to buy an alcoholic drink because of a story in a book.

lololizzy · 21/04/2011 14:21

MikeOxstiff, there isn't always a choice. I am juggling two retail jobs to keep my head above water. There isn't an option to opt out of Bank Holidays. And until i got my second job, for nearly a year i was only offered weekend work. which i was grateful for. I actually prefer days off in the week when things are quieter eg shop or have a day trip where there are less people around. There are many, many jobs that simply are not as clear cut as Monday-Friday and i don't mean just retail but nursing, tourist industry, catering industry, need i go on!

Abr1de · 21/04/2011 14:23

Easter Monday has no religious significance, as others have said. It's Good Friday and Easter Sunday that matter.

MikeOxstiff · 21/04/2011 14:32

Katiepoes
My heart bleeds for them. Try this little tip if you are a grown man or woman in Ireland
buy your alcohol the day before.
not thats not hard is it?

Katiepoes · 21/04/2011 14:34

Mikeoxstiff you have beautfully missed the point. My congratulations. Now go pray for my doomed heathen soul.

MikeOxstiff · 21/04/2011 14:39

Katiepoes

Dont worry I wont be praying for you

SusanneLinder · 21/04/2011 14:44

Maybe your hairdresser needs the Royal Wedding off cos she is doing Kate's hair? :)

CurrySpice · 21/04/2011 14:46

I think Mikeoxstiff's mission is to miss the point Hmm
