For fecks sake be closed on both.

I just am saddened by the fact that they're that bothered about making money that they will open on the most important day of the christian Calender.

Sad

I think its a shame shops are open on Sundays and I am in no way religeous. I just feel for the staff and think it would be nice to have a day that is quiet IYSWAM? I am old enough to remember just taking for granted that shops were shut on Sundays.

TrillianAstra · 19/04/2011 09:17

Your hairdresser can open whatever day they choose.

AIBU to suspect that you wanted to have your hair done on the 29th and are pissed off that you can't, more than having any particular moral objection?

slavewife · 19/04/2011 09:20

Not everyone is religious, and I would rather have the Friday off, than the Monday, and I am religious.

ShesEverSoFamous · 19/04/2011 09:22

OP YABU, I've recently opened my own salon and I asked the staff what they would like to do with the Royal Wedding, stay open and have an extra days holiday or close for the Holiday - they decided they'd rather not work.

I've seen plenty other posters on here asking if they should get the day off etc so why should hairdressers be any different?

We will be open Easter Monday, once again the decision of my staff. I pay a good wage plus commision but the girls working for me rely on their tips too, they can't afford two days without them in one week.

Easter Monday not a public hol in scotland

hocuspontas · 20/04/2011 17:44
Grin
hocuspontas · 20/04/2011 17:46

Is this a joke op? Because I can't recall what important thing happened on the day after the resurrection.

lololizzy · 20/04/2011 18:02

Is Easter Monday the most important day of the Christian Calender? I thought Easter day/Christmas day was.

LynetteScavo · 20/04/2011 18:24

This is an important question. I think I may have offended some people.

Groovee · 20/04/2011 18:24

Edinburgh schools are off Easter Monday and lots of businesses give it as a day off.

scottishmummy · 20/04/2011 18:30

I thought that Easter Monday was merely a bank holiday-surely Good Friday and Easter Sunday are Christian days? What is Christian about the Monday?

Melty · 20/04/2011 19:02

Well, we are working, (NHS) on the Wedding Friday, but the bloody hospital canteen is closed.
I can bring my lunch in, but you know, working a 12 hr shift and no opportunity for a hot meal for a lot of people...

MaisyMooCow · 20/04/2011 19:05

Maybe they can't afford to be closed on both days.

Or, maybe they're putting their customers first before their own needs.

scottishmummy · 20/04/2011 19:15

perhaps there is enough appts to support opening.eg no one else gives a hoot

Dylthan · 20/04/2011 19:20

scotlands bank holidays there's an extra bank holiday next year for the queens diamond jubilee so that will be fun for the people that like to get their knickers in a twist about bank holidays Grin

onagar · 20/04/2011 19:25

OP might be muddled cos the bible says the resurrection was 3 days later which makes it monday.

scottishmummy · 20/04/2011 19:31

thanks for bank hol info

lololizzy · 20/04/2011 22:15

last year a customer came in to shop i work in on Easter Sunday and said it was illegal for us to be open (have no idea if this is true) and that he was surprised we were (if he was so judgy...why was he there? you have to make the effort to get there, it's not on a high street) I replied that as none of us were Christians, and we were indeed a pagan ran establishment, we refused to lose money on a struggling small business as it was just another day to us and we refused to be dictated to. Imagine the outcry for eg, if shops were made to close on Samhain (Halloween) or December 21st (Yule)?
(important dates on the pagan calendar)
and as for the discussion earlier, i too would love to be able to shop after 5pm on a Sunday for example. I work every single sat , sun and bank hol and often dont get a day off in the week. People work all hours, often to suit them..not everyone wants to work, shop or indeed open a shop at conventional hours

TethersEnd · 20/04/2011 22:16

OP, my thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Try and stay strong.

Until Saturday.

heliumballoons · 20/04/2011 22:25

Colditz Grin @ need for shoes at 5pm on a Sunday.

Lots of places will be open OP, Co-ops, newagents, petrol garages, cafes/pubs.

Not sure why the hairdresses getting all the stick.
