.. 'my little girl'?

There is quite an age gap - nearly 25 years I think. She is quite young looking as well, always getting ID'd even though she's in her twenties. She thinks it's sweet and shows that he cares, but me and some of our other friends find it really weird.

Hmm, I'd find it icky, but I think most relationships have nicknames attached to them. My partner calls me 'monster' and I have seen the PILs go a bit Shock at that, but it has a private history for the two of us.

So, I know what you mean, but probably YABU.

KatieWatie · 18/04/2011 15:40

It is a bit creepy, but I guess if she doesn't mind then it's a moot point [shrug]

I had an ex who called me "young thing" due to our age gap, but who wouldn't like being called that!!

TobyLerone · 18/04/2011 15:40

If she doesn't mind and he doesn't mind, YABU and it's really none of your business.

My boyfriend calls me something similar, although it's not that. It's more to do with my height than anything else. And I love it.

ForeverNamechanging · 18/04/2011 15:41

All pet names are creepy. My 50 year old boss calls her husband her ickle bickle pickle- I judge

ENormaSnob · 18/04/2011 15:42

Very creepy IMO

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 18/04/2011 15:43

DH calls me Fish. Or The Fish if he's being formal.

I'm sure it sounds bloody ridiculous to the masses but it's just a nickname.

TobyLerone · 18/04/2011 15:44

ickle bickle pickle

I'm judging too Grin

HecateQueenOfTheNight · 18/04/2011 15:48

My husband calls me Gorgeousness.

I am reasonably sure that anyone hearing that would barf their guts up.

However, "my little girl" is a bit weird. I think it's the way it makes you think "child", like the fact that she is, to him, a "little girl" is what he likes.

But, that is probably overthinking it.

I call my eldest child "claptrapvonshpilderbeans".

People call their loved ones very odd names.

AgentZigzag · 18/04/2011 15:48

To test whether it is or not, would it be OK for her to call him Daddy?

Um, no.

YANBU.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 18/04/2011 15:50

What about 'baby', 'babe' or names like that... just as ookey?

KatieWatie · 18/04/2011 15:51

I'm intrigued by the origins of "Monster" and "Fish" lol

DH calls me "Spooky", which sounds mental to most people - it's not even a noun it's an adjective! - but it means something to us.

itchycoopark · 18/04/2011 15:51

I'm not against nicknames - I have them for DH and practically all my family. It's just this one...

NotTheMessiahJustMouseface · 18/04/2011 15:52

I don't like that.

HipposGoBeserk · 18/04/2011 15:52

My husband calls me a shortened version of our daughter's name, as a pet name. And then wonders why I don't answer... err, I thought you were talking to dd?? Confused

Not creepy, but drives me bloody mad.

RevoltingPeasant · 18/04/2011 15:52

Forever YACK, judge away.

Hecate my mum used to call us kids 'critters' as a collective or, individually, Critter Number 1, Number 2, etc.

I call my DP FurnaceMan because his natural body temper is around the level of a crematorium fire.

tethersegg · 18/04/2011 15:53

The 25yr age gap would concern me more than the nickname, TBH.

Although YANBU.

RevoltingPeasant · 18/04/2011 15:53

Katie My name begins with a syllable with rhymes with 'mon' so it started out as *onster and then morphed into Monster once he got to know me better.

WkdSM · 18/04/2011 15:56

My DH calls me Fatso (I am a size 6) and my father has always called me Ug (short for ugly) - however, both are said with affection in the obvious belief that it is immediately apparent that I am neither.

I am sure my calling DH Lovely Man makes a few people barf.

TBH - if they are happy with this it might be a bit of an in joke because of the age gap. Maybe 'Get a Life' is in order?

Mils new fella is 20 odd years her junior Shock

I would boak up a kidney if I heard her call him little soldier.

molemesseskilledIpom · 18/04/2011 16:00

I call him Bubbles. He doesnt know yet that I call him this.

Even if he does find out he soon forget as He Has The Memory Of A Fucking Goldfish.

dawntigga · 18/04/2011 16:01

Perhaps they have that kind of relationship.

Don'tJudgeTheFetishTiggaxx

RevoltingPeasant · 18/04/2011 16:02

ENorma Yes but in that case, 'little soldier' might take on rather a different meaning Grin

itchycoopark · 18/04/2011 16:02

Bubbles, lol

He has also said that he feels 'paternal' towards her - is that normal?
