PIL and DH have tea, I have dinner. They also drink tea with it (ugh)

shinyshoes · 17/04/2011 17:10

we have dinner or tea, it depends I use both terms

Abcinthia · 17/04/2011 17:10

I thought tea was what you had between lunch and dinner.

5inthebed · 17/04/2011 17:10

I thought this thread would have been the other way around, it usually is on here.

I agree, it is breakfast dinner and tea.

KingCnut · 17/04/2011 17:10

Who really gives a flying fuck Confused

PanicOnTheStreetsOfLondon · 17/04/2011 17:11

If we eat it at home it's tea. If we go out it's dinner.

Ive never met anyone who uses supper meaning evening meal. Oop north supper is cheese on toast before bed.

YABU though

bemybebe · 17/04/2011 17:11

hocus

"Tea is at teatime (4/5ish)
Dinner is at dinnertime (7 -9 ish)"

That is what I thought! Is is really so controversial???

shinyshoes · 17/04/2011 17:11

breakfast
lunch
dinner/tea (same thing in the Shiny house)

breathing · 17/04/2011 17:11

Where I am from, only very old country folk say "tea" for their evening meal. It is usually had very very early, say 5 pm, and is commonly taken by er, persons who work the land Grin

Or even Eritrea...

Entree is generally the main dish of a meal unless in Australia..

And it's pudding for me too.

usualsuspect · 17/04/2011 17:14

I get pissed off with people who get pissed off over stupid things

BikeRunSki · 17/04/2011 17:14

Dinner is what you go out for, whatever time of day.

I have tea at 4pm and supper at 7.30pm
DH has tea at 4pm and tea also at 7.30pm, and supper at bedtime.

We were both brought up in the south of England, by northern parents. And now live in Yorkshire. It's very confusing.

TheSmallClanger · 17/04/2011 17:14

Dinner or tea I can live with. Supper makes my teeth itch.

NinkyNonker · 17/04/2011 17:14

Always supper for me.

Einsteinnolonger · 17/04/2011 17:14

LeQueen

Isn't it summat to do with oldun days when the working class man had a big dinner to sustain him through his manual labour followed by a light tea. Or is it tother way round?

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 17/04/2011 17:14

Only common Northern people call it tea, because that's what they have when they get home from t'mill.
