and the fuckers across the road roll around in £50 quid notes watching their big tv and eating convenience food.

we don't even have a house, we have to live in a shelter made out of startrite shoe boxes and empty hummous tubs

and we can only afford just the 3 holidays this year. The DDs are going to feel so unpriviledged at school.

GloriaSmut · 16/04/2011 21:00

Library. You've got one of those?

(Sadly this is soon unlikely to be an ironic comment)

I'm so poor that I have never even heard of a TV. What the hell are they?

DH and I are thinking of going on benefits as we fancy a holiday to the Carribbean every 3 weeks.

AtYourCrucifix · 16/04/2011 21:00

i have a library at home but we got cold so had to burn the ladder and now i can't reach the top shelf.

TheCrackFox · 16/04/2011 21:02

I couldn't afford matches to burn down my house made out of old newspapers.

HuckingFell · 16/04/2011 21:04

Matches? Rub two sticks together. Wasting money on matches...

DuplicitousBitch · 16/04/2011 21:04

thank god for the boden mid season sale - or else dd would have to attend woodcraft folk camp in last years toweling sweatpants

I once spent a few weeks in a sort of bin-shed / open garage on a filthy old mattress. I had to move the mattress depending on where the wind was blowing from and I was very lucky that someone had abandoned a welsh dresser which cut off some of the weather given that there were only three walls to my shelter and gave me some sort of protection / privacy.

Funnily enough, the people who helped me the most at that time in my life were those who had the least to give. But they did. I'm the same when I see someone down on their luck. I have given my last spare tenner several times to needy people.

I'm thinking of writing to David Cameron to see if he would like to give one week's interest on his personal fortune to my family given that I embraced his "big society" idea long before he even spoke about it. I think that's reasonable.

Mid season sale? You don't know you're born! My poor ds is going to be in his old and faded ticking stripe board shorts until there are 60% reductions in July, however will he cope? :(

DuplicitousBitch · 16/04/2011 21:11

i have been reduced to making my own sassy applique skirts by gluing roadkill to last seasons frocks

expatinscotland · 16/04/2011 21:11

What are you all doing online? Is your library open this late? And what about power? My husband has to run on a wheel 48 hours/day to keep that on, you know!

wook · 16/04/2011 21:13

Gluing roadkill? Don't even ask me how I created my dd's hotchpotch dress

Ninx · 16/04/2011 21:15

48 hours a day is just not good enough expat. Is your DH some sort of layabout? Shock Grin

reelingintheyears · 16/04/2011 21:16

And my DC had swimming costumes that were knitted...Hmm

smokinaces · 16/04/2011 21:16

We would eat meat, only the children think of the local rats as friends now. So we live on dandelions instead.

reelingintheyears · 16/04/2011 21:18

Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall had a lovely dandelion jam on last week's show.

wook · 16/04/2011 21:19
