To ask if there is a "No God Botherers Please" sign I can put up in my porch?

OK, here's the rant (please bear in mind I'm pg and getting big enough now that getting up and down stairs for no reason is enough to make me want to throw anything to hand at your head):

I live alone and have 1001 things to do before baby arrives in July. At the bottom of my road is a fairly large church (does Alpha Courses, not sure what that makes them but strong flavoured Christians I imagine). Now I know it is Easter coming up and everything but I have just had to open the door for no less than the 7th time IN ONE WEEK to a couple with a leaflet about Jesus.

I know this sounds petty but when you have an open can of paint that you need to suddenly cover and check cats can't get to, need to manoeuvre yourself from the comfortable position you have finally found on the sofa or come breathlessly running in through the house from the garden...it's driving me a bit balmy!

I've told he last 4 couples that I have had a constant stream of them since last week but it doesn't seem to be getting back to their HQ. How strong is this community they hark on about if they can't even tell each other which road they have canvassed? And are they wasting collection money on all of the flyers and leaflets I get given and thrust through my door that go the same way as all of the kebab house leaflets?

My Q is: Is there a sign out there that I can put up (similar to the No Sales Callers) that used to be popular?

Thruaglassdarkly, you can hardly claim that your religion is badly treated when there is a law stating that your god must be worshipped in schools.

You may say that RE does not push belief and it may be that a large percentage of religious people do not push it in RE (I think you are wrong, but let's consider that as possible). Can you see that this number should be zero?.

Also if someone is unlucky enough that the only school available for their child is a faith school then it will go much further, with priests telling the class that god is real in the same way they are told that 2+2=4.

SolarPanel "unfortunately some people will always use religion as a cover for selfish deeds, but there have been many, many good works done by believers of various religions who wanted to do God's will"

That sounds like theAslan Defence . Named after the principle in the C. S. Lewis book, The Last Battle.

The idea is that if a Christian does something good then that is in the name of god and anything bad is nothing to do with his god or religion.

It falls down though when you have a god who specifically ordered the murder and abuse of children. This is the god of hate and cruelty we are talking about. The god of genocide and rape.

altinkum hocuspontas, for JW, they need to brainwash people so they can get to the gates of heaven
well they dont believe in going to heaven so you are talking aload of feck. If people are going to bash another religion/faith/culture etc, at least get your facts straight.

just tell them you do not want them calling again, and they'll put you(your house number) down as a DO NOT CALL. i.e they'll go past your door when they are next in the area

Ongar - there's no point in my responding to you while you insist on fabricating the truth. I'm assuming you're not in the UK, because here children are in no way compelled to worship the Christian god and priests are not allowed (in 2011) to ram beliefs down kids' throats.
And neither should atheists (but they actually do!) be able to push their faith onto kids.
You don't sound like you've actually recently been near a school with all due respect, whereas I have 15 years teaching behind me, the last 3 which have been spent in various primary schools on suppply, so have seen a lot more than most here.
Regards.

Schools are - more in the breach than the observance - required to conduct assemblies of a 'broadly Christian character'. If this involves prayer & hymns, then the default really is that children are 'compelled' to take part in worshipping the Christian god - unless parents choose to make a fuss about it.

Atheists can't possibly 'push their faith' onto kids. We don't have one. That's, um, rather the point. Grin

If it's important to you NOT to have this inflicted upon your child, then go ahead and make a fuss. It's your right and as a Christian, I defend your right to not blindly buy into the faith. I would respect you for making a fuss to be honest because it's better than going along with it to be "polite" as that diminishes both you and the faith. Seriously, have the courage of your convictions without trampling on others and who can complain?
